    Best Decision I Ever Made.

I am band to bypass on 2/2/16. SW 259 CW is 187, so I think you're right on track. Us revisions tend to lose slightly slower because our bodies have already gone through a wls and like with being pregnant, your body remembers so it doesn't go into "shock" like it did when we were banded. Plus, we tend to not be as heavy as some people having bypass for the first time. You're doing great, keep it up! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using the BariatricPal App
  3. I never had to do a pre-op diet. My liver has never been fatty. I did a 24 hour liquid the night before that was it Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using the BariatricPal App
  4. I got up to 259 after I had to live with an unfilled band for a year and I'm at 214 currently. I'm 12 weeks post op Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using the BariatricPal App
  5. Oh by far! No comparison. I love it. You have to learn what you can and can't tolerate but your surgeon's office should help with that Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using the BariatricPal App
  6. I have no regrets. My only regret is not going with the bypass in the first place. I had multiple complications from the band and I woke up from surgery from the revision with no more pain caused by the band. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using the BariatricPal App

  8. Oh i am so happy to read your story! I'm having revision from band to bypass on April 19th and i am terrified! My biggest fear is that i will never be able to est "normal" foods again....like a nice salad or grilled fish or beef. I dont care about large portions...just to have the variety. Please tell me your experiences with eating now that you are about 4 months post op? Cant wait to hear your story! Sent from my GT-I9505 using the BariatricPal App I had revision surgery on 2/2/16 and I can eat salads, fish and beef. Some people have a harder time with salads but I have no issues. I can't have sugar, especially something that has sugar and is liquid. Instant horrible nausea. I carry anti-nausea meds with me because I'm never quite sure when my tummy will not agree with what I ate. I'm making much better food choices now and I'm so happy. 9. I am now 5 days Post-op band to bypass. I was banded 3 years ago and did great the first year. Then the stomach flu hit me and I got stuck to the point where I couldn't swallow my own saliva and had to rush back to the ED for emergency unfill. My band was never the same after that. I had always had pain in my left shoulder, like most of us had due to the gas build upon only difference was mine lasted until I had the band removed. After my doctor and I tried everything to help, we couldn't fix it. Many trips to the ED later, my doc said it needs to come out. So I started the process all over again and this time I decided to be revised to bypass. When I woke up from surgery (which went flawlessly) the doctor told me she found out why I was having pain in my left ribcage area, below my sternum and in my left shoulder. The left ribcage was from the band or the tubing rubbing against my diaphragm and causing a callus. Which in turn caused the shoulder pain due to the vagus nerve being bothered. The low sternal pain was from my band moving up and down causing inflammation and early signs of erosion. I was so relieved to hear that I wasn't crazy all these years! Recovery Post-op has been great. Better than with the band. I wish I had done this the first time and saved me so much trouble, pain, money and family anguish.

An end to pain and suffering

I'm sorry to hear about your troubles. I had no issues with insurance getting approved for revision. I do have a different insurance then when I was banded. I still had to go through 6 months of supervised nutrition classes, and the whole gambit all over again, but oh well. Best of luck to you!

    Curious

Had band (placed in 2013 with multiple complications) to bypass (all in one surgery) on 2/2/16. HW 259 CW 234, I'm 4 weeks out. My doctor was more optimistic about my weight loss and she thought 80-100% of my excess weight. I think in a weird way, having the band first helped prepare me for the bypass. In my monthly pre-op weight group, I was the only one who had gone through this and I shared a lot of my do's and don't's post op. I feel much better this time around. I have to progress my food phases a little slower, but I remember having to do that with the band too.

    5 days post op PAIN

You aren't on protein shakes yet? Wow. No wonder you don't have any energy. I was having protein shakes immediately post op. The left side will be the more painful side. Mine was.

    5 days post op PAIN

I'm 5 days Post-op and had very minimal pain. I told my doc before I went under the knife that I have a low pain tolerance so she said I'll wake up with a PCA pump of hydromorphone, and it helped a lot. Everyone deals which pain differently. I'm glad you're having success with the weightloss. I'm not going to weigh myself yet because I know I'm still swollen and retaining water from surgery.
  19. I am 5 days Post-op band to bypass. I don't have GERD but due to the band constantly slipping and rubbing, I developed similar symptoms of GERD. I've heard many physicians lean towards bypass if you already have GERD because it could make it worse. I know you want to have done as much research on your own to present to your physician, but they really are the best to get advice on which route to take. I wish you the best in your decision and hope all goes well with whichever surgery you pick.
  20. Oh how exciting! I wish the best for you!
  21. I'm in Portland, but I won't be having surgery until Late January. I take it, since it's at Sunnyside, it's through Kaiser? I wish you the best!

    Port Problems

The port hurts for a while after surgery. You have to be careful. After a few months you won't notice it as much. It won't hurt to touch it. The more weight you lose, the more it'll stick out, and it depends on where your surgeon places it. I'm going to be a band to bypass revision in a few months due to band slippage and multiple complications.
