January 2013 Bandsters Unite
babykins529 replied to Onamissionn2013's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That's what I told my husband last night when we went to dinner and I had tomato soup and a small portion of mashed potatoes (the waitress looked at me funny for just a sec lol) and I got the soup first and was sipping and sipping, then got the potatoes and was taking small nibbles, but I had to keep reminding myself to set the spoon down, and before I know it, I'm FULL! He's like, you need to remember the rules dear, and I'm like, ITS A 30 YEAR HABBIT!!!! hahaha. Oh this will take sometime. But worth it obviously! -

January 2013 Bandsters Unite
babykins529 replied to Onamissionn2013's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Still have gas pains here and there in my left shoulder but I'm used to it now. Starting to get hungry every once in a while but only when I go way too long without eating. I have to set alarms to remind me to have something small. Still working on getting enough protein in. Going back to work next Wednesday so that will mark two weeks post op. Other then that, incisions are healing great. Had internal stiches and glue which the glue has come off all but my port incision. I can sleep on my port side and no real complaints. -
I would start with a good multivitamin. It will make a world of difference. Then if that doesn't do the trick, go get some blood work done. Could be something simple as a deficiency.

Same here. I let them know I get very nauseous after abdominal surgery so they gave me a patch and plenty of nausea meds. Then a take home phenergan and oxycodone I had no problem after that.

Getting banded in the morning

Welcome to the banded side! -
I had to call my doctors office and e-mail them 5 times before they finally sent the records over to the clinic. You can't assume it will get done. They are super busy. You have to babysit everyone. Lesson I had to learn.

Shoulder pain still!
babykins529 replied to jewel2013's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Was banded on 1/30 and I still have gas pain in my left shoulder. -
Are you on any anti nausea medication? If not, ask for some. They can call it into your pharmacy, just go have someone pick it up. No need to suffer. I asked for it pre-op cuz I know my body and what happens when I have oxycodone.

Welcome! I had surgery on 1/30 so I feel your pain. As far as the pulling, its gonna happen. Just get up slowly and make sure to strech carefully. They are healing and will be stiff. Moving around helps even though it hurts. Stay ontop of your pain meds. For the gas pains, moving, gas ex strips and a heating pad were and some times still are my best friends. The gas pain for me isn't constant and I barely feel the tug of the incisions anymore. I've been doing house work though and I probably shouldn't be but I'm not one to sit around. The only pain I really have anymore is at my port site and occasionally my shoulder from gas. Hang in there! -
Post Op food restrictions
babykins529 replied to buckeyegirl4's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Same here. 1 cup of food 3 times a day. Besides protein shakes and small snacks. Carbonated beverages and beer are off limits. With the beer, some bandsters have no issues, some do. The carbonated beverages, if they are allowed to go flat, can be find. My psychologist who is a veteran banster of 7 years drinks flat diet Dr. Pepper. There are foods that we are told can cause us issues. Fruits/veggies with seeds or a skin. Bread. Ect. Again, what bothers some, doesn't bother others. -
What was the afternoon of your surgery like?
babykins529 replied to dolphintattoo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
We had to bring our 6 year old daughter with us to the hospital after our babysitter caught the flu. We woke up at 4am and arrived at the hospital by 5:30 am. She hung out with my hubby and I and asked a lot of questions about what was going on. She held my hand after two trys to get the IV in and gave me hugs and kisses when it was time for surgery at 7:30am. While I was in the OR and recovery she hung out with my hubby and played with her My Little Ponys, her ds and the iPad. They went to breakfast and had her favorite; pancakes. When I was taken to short stay, they both came back to see me and my voice was really low and raspy from the breathing tube and the fact that it hurt to breath. My daughter was concerned and asked the nurse why mommies voice sounded funny and after they explained it to her, she was cool with it. She told me all about her day and how she's happy I'm okay. Then when it was time to finally go, she held my hand while the nurse removed my IV and asked to help wheel me out to the car. She is VERY much a caretaker. This is the third major surgery for me in a year so she is knowledgeable about what to expect. When she was two, her favorite book was my pocket anatomy and physiology book from school. Every child is different and every parent knows the limits of their children. Do what makes you all comfortable. -
January 2013 Bandsters!
babykins529 replied to Mimi1980's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Surgery was 1/30/13 and I'm not hungry. I accidentally went like 6 hours without something in my stomach (first time out of the house since surgery and was busy) so when I got back home and my stomach was rumbling bad! It hurt! I gently gave it what it wanted and it settled down. But through it all...I wasn't hungry. I'm sure that will change but for now I need to pay better attention and not rely on my stomach to tell me when to eat. -
I quit smoking the minute the clinic told me too. They gave me a list of reasons on why smoking is bad while banded. That was back in October. I just had my surgery Wednesday. I don't crave it at all and and super glad I did it.

Syntrax nectar samples
babykins529 replied to cksweetpea's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I like them. The vanilla bean is my favorite right next to cookies and cream. I like the variety and I like the thickness. There isn't a weird after taste either. -
Protein Shakes....please help
babykins529 replied to KeeSh32's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've tried many protein shakes and my fav's are the Nectar ones. They have many different flavorings to pick from. A large container cost me $41 dollars and I got it at the Vitamin Shopp. They sent me an e-mail with a 20% percent coupon for my entire purchase. I go there for my vitamins too since I'm super picky -
