I have been battling my weight for the last 20+ years and I am not getting any younger. I have tried Weight Watchers 4 times in the past 15 years. I did well in 2000 and lost 43 pounds, which put me at 192 lbs. I felt really good and told myself I would never get over 200lbs again. I kept it off for a couple of years and eventually gained it all back, and then some. I went back to WW a couple of more times, but I just could not stick with it. I have went to Curves in the past and am currently going now. I do feel better about myself each time I go. I'm taking the stairs everyday at work (3 floors). I'm trying to at least move more. I have "severe" sleep apnea, high blood pressure, cholesterol, osteoarthrits in my knees. I feel like a "beached" whale when I'm in bed and want to turn over.
I used to be one of these people that was against this kind of surgery, just because I thought it was an easy way out. I was wrong! I have been seeing the Lap Band seminars advertised in our local paper throughout the past year and finally went to one on
09/29/12. I plan on gettng the surgery once I go through the pre-approval process for the Insurance company, which should be around March or April 2013. My goal is to get off all of these medications and off the breathing machine and lose 110 lbs in the process. Just like anything else I have tried, it will definitely be a challenge and a lifechanger. But if I don't do something now, I won't have to worry about my life, because I won't have one. I know I will have the support of my family, and I know God will be with me on this new journey. The rest is up to me. I can do this!
OMG!! INSURANCE DENIED! After going thru 7 mos of insurance prior approval process, 2 days after I turned in my paperwork I was told insurance does not cover. That was April 17th, 2013. Four months later, I am back on track and scheduled for SEPT 19th, 3 days after my 54th birthday. My secondary insurance had an exclusion for lap band. My neighbor, who had the surgery in Jan 13, suggested I check with my 2nd insurance. I never would have since my primary denied.
Lesson Learned: ALWAYS check with the Insurance company myself before having any major procedure/surgery done.
Signed: Happy in Alabama :)
