Hi Jackie... Hi Denise... My surgeon allows Full liquids on the second day which is any food that is liquid at room temp...they do say if is not tolerated well to return to clear liquids fpr one more day... then they instruct to do pureed for two weeks after that??? I guess every Doc is different. The Protein supplement that has been rec. to me most has been unjury http://www.unjury.com/ I have not tried it but thought I would pass it along to you. I did try and Advantage shake and it wasn't bad but it was a bit high in fat grams. I don't know if that helps at all but wanted to tell you congratulations and glad you are feeling so well! Darcy

Gabby... what can't you take liquid Advil??? I know that you can't take it if you have the RNY gastric bypass but was told there weren't really any medication restrictions? Darcy -
Hi Ginny, Welcome to the site! Everyone is very helpful and friendly here but I think you will find more answers to you questions if you start a new post under introductions with a new topic. I haven't had my surgery yet but I think it depends on what your Doctor has given you the ok to eat??? Try posting your question on the main board and everyone will give you oodles of ideas! Congratulations! Darcy

I know how you feel Msknow... I've had a very hard time being patient! I just want to get the paperwork into the insurance but have to do things in order... I would be happy if they would just get me into see the surgeon. So... can submit another two weeks worth of food charts next Thursday and hopefully they will decide that I can adhere to a bandlike diet and get on with it. I guess the good part is that I am already losing weight so all of the waiting time will not be worthless. (o: Good Luck with everything.... Darcy

Hey Gretat... So glad you are doing so well! It is true... seems like each Surgeon has there own special rules and regulations. It always best to follow your Doc's instructions but it is also important to value what others have found to be effective and then make your own educated decision. It seems to me that this site is about personal experiences and advice based on those experiences. It a bit like when you have a baby... everyone tells you what worked for them as a parent and the doctors gives you his instructions and then you decide as a parent what combination of information you will value and use as you raise your child. In my experiece... surgeons are the most protective of the actual surgical sites and how they are cared for.... I would always consult my M.D. if I was having a problem with my incisions or any other problem that is directly connected to the surgery itself. Good luck with everything in bandland!

Yep... for me there is no other type of soda... I can't imagine drinking anything else but diet. I am trying to completely eliminate any carbonated beverages from my diet prior to my surgery... one less thing to adapt to. Congrats Tied on your weight-loss... looks like you are headed down a successful road! Darcy

I went into chat a few times this morning and hung out for awhile... no luck catching anyone for a little conversation... so went out and worked in the yard instead. (o:

I'm with you Alex... when I think of surgery... knock me out... I don't want to hear or see anything when they do mine. Nope... unconscious would get my vote!

Oooohhh... I am going to be soooo careful with that... My sister had the RNY gastric bypass a year and a half ago and in the beginning she would always hand what was left on her plate (almost all of it) when we would go out to eat. I stopped going to eat with her as it was hard to fight the weight with two dinner plates in front of me and then to watch her literally melt as I was inhaling her leftovers was almost heartbreaking. She can eat more now and we can go out to eat as we used to but I am always going to remember how that felt for me. Congrats on the weight-loss Ihvbzs sounds like you are doing an awesome job with your new tool! Darcy -
Good idea Donali! Maybe if all of us just make it a habit to head into chat when we come to the site we will all have more luck finding another member in there that tends to hang around at the same times that we do? I think we all stop even looking and that really cuts anyones chances of finding anyone there. I think Ill go in there right now and take a peek! Darcy

I agree... it is nice to get information... good or bad. There is risk with any surgical procedure... not just this one... but the risks are so much less with this procedure than with something such as the RNY. Thanks for sharing the story... it's really the only death I have heard of since researching the band though I am sure there must be others... I've heard and read of many deaths associated with the RNY and that was why I was so glad there was a different and safer option. (o: Darcy

Hmmmm... I wonder what I will miss? I think it will probably be how often we dine out now.... eating out has really become our social activity and I think it will have to be replaced with something else. My hubby is a slow eater though... so that will make eating with him still a joy. (o: I'm kind of looking foward to being the person that has time to flit about at a BBQ since I won't be so busy cramming my tummy so full that it makes me sick. Hehehehehe on the Puppies... my little guy has quite a spread as well... he will be the odd man out before too long! (o: Darcy -
Great info Big Dog! I had planned on adding warm tea to my daily menu as a very nice member suggested it  and it will be nice to have even more positive reasons for doing so... THanks!

Good Luck DeLarla! I too have been overweight since the 2nd or 3rd grade... food became a source of comfort for many reasons during my childhood and that "full" feeling has continued to be that source of comfort to me. I think that is why the Lap Band will work for me... I will just get that comforting full feeling sooner and I can hardly wait! Take the best of care! Darcy

Hi Dede, Welcome!!! I felt the same way when they handed me the big pile of paperwork and I've had to learn a lot of patience along the way. I think all of the trouble will be well worth it once I'm in bandland! Darcy

nightingale2u replied to gabby's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi Gabby, I too have gone into the chat room many times and there was never anybody there so I stopped checking. I've only found another member in there once... the famous Robin and it was a very helpful conversation. (o: I think the positive side to this is that we all save our questions an comments for posting which keeps it very active. It would be fun if that area was utilized more... maybe we can come up with a meeting time and see how it goes? Darcy -
Questions: Re: My Big Day 4/22/04
nightingale2u replied to a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi Jackie, Welcome to the site! I'm not banded yet but I would think that all of the questions and feeling you are having are perfectly normal. My Bariatric team said I could expect to lose approximately 60% of my weight and of course that depends on how much I work with the tool that is being given to me. The one thing I have noticed here is that whatever amount a person loses... they seem to keep it off which sounds like a delightful change to me! If I lost even 50% of my weight and kept if off... I'd be tickled pink. It looks to me that if a person really works with the lapband they can accomplish whatever percentage of weight-loss they are hoping for. I asked the same question about Protein powder... the one that was recommended to me most was "Unjury" http://www.unjury.com/ I did buy a can of Advantage while I was grocery shopping yesterday but haven't tried it yet... thought it would be good have one that is pre-mixed for road trips and such. Good luck with your surgery... I'd love to be in your shoes but imagine I will be nervous when my time comes too! Everyone is VERY friendly and helpful here! Darcy -
HEHEHEHEHEHEHE... Swimsuits????? I gave those up years ago! :sick In regards to the billboard... I get to stand in back of y'all. (o:

HI Everyone... I had something happen first thing this morning that really scared the H E Double Hockey Sticks out of me. My Daughter is at her Dad's for her vacation time with him and my Hubby is gone on a fishing tip and I am home ALL alone. :think I was heading down the stairs to make coffee and lost my footing... slid about four stairs down leaving my right leg behind an wrenching my shoulder and 1 month post-op wrist... (If I couldn't do the splits before... I sure can now!!!). I don't think it would have happened at all if my hip and leg weren't so painful with the extra weight. I'm always off balance. First I thought... WHEW that hurt but at least I didn't tumble all of the way down... then I thought... thank God nobody saw me... then I thought... Holy Moses... if I had fallen all of the way down... nobody would find me until Monday afternoon!!!!! Makes me really glad that I am now eating a healthy diet and will hopefully be ahead of the game once I finally am banded. It also makes me think that when we retire... I want a house without stairs!
