How has your relationship with food changed?
nightingale2u replied to vinesqueen's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I don't think I have ever been one to hoard food... but from a very early age food became a source of comfort and eating an effective way to deal with anxiety. If I was thinking about food... I didn't have to think about all of the complicated and dysfuntional things going on around me. I also developed a great talent as a closet eater... I never overendulged around other people... I binged privately. I don't know if my relationship with food has really changed or if the band just keeps me from acting on old urges to binge. I still tend to try to get in that "one more bite" even when I feel full and know I should stop. I have learned to throw the remaining bites left on my plate away because I know there will be room for them if I just wait a little while. Anyhoo... so... I think it took me years to form all of these eating habits and responses to food... it will probably take a good number of years to alter them... hopefully the band will just keep reminding me in the meantime. -
I'm right there witcha Lisa... Today... it's been back to basics... I started out with a low carb carnation breakfast... had chicken salad for lunch and made an effort to slow down. I also haven't been sticking to the "no drinking" rule during and after eating... I'm back to following that rule. I've been ignoring my band... ignoring the rules and voila... packing on the pounds! Sooooo... I had a little talk with myself and made a promise just to adhere to the very basic of banding rules. I hafta say... I've been pretty disgusted with myself and wallowing in my own self-pity and doing so has been pretty non-productive. I'm tired of being the hostess of my own private pity party... I'd rather be a dancing banana.

Sorry Greg... I think Lisa is gets the job... I need a severe butt KICKING! I took my dear daughter to the doc last week and caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror... there was no denying that my face was back to being puffy... yikes... scared the lima beans right out of me! All the candy is gone... snack type foods... gone... enough quilting material to keep my hands busy... now... I just need to add exercise to the mix. Maybe I need to join curves... OR... maybe I just need to use the equiptment that is right here at home??? Hmmm... it's a thought. As long as we don't get dancing M&M's I'll be okay.

Way to go Jack... I'm sure Zoe has a Lace undergarment for you to sport as well... hmmmm.... howza bout a lil contest... Jack... Greg... impartial judges await? Marie... you are a better woman than I!!!! I am not going to change my stats... NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.... it's denialville for this girl! I need one of you to move in here and kick my butt onto the treadmill every morning... andy takers???? Darcy
-
Greg... I think you are out numbered... besides... you know you've always wanted to wear women's undergarments. Whew... thanks Becky... I might have created another Tsunami if I had plunged off a local bridge.
-
Becky Lee... I just can't change my numbers... if I do... I think I'll have ta jump off the closest bridge. I can't imagine why I stepped on the scale today... but a wee part of me needed to know. The truth hurts....
-
LOL... OMIGOD... the visual on the balck lace number actually made me smile... well... it actually caused a bit of a belly laugh as well! I think we all need a pic of Greg in Zoe's black lace number to lift our spirits.... whatcha think ladies?????
-
Sorry Michelle... but let me tell ya... I have you beat... I'm up 6 lbs and I just want to sit down a cry myself a river. So... hopefully I will get myself together and work with my band... but I can't help thinking... I couldn't get myself together before the band... *sigh* what's the diff now... I'm going to go pout now... Darcy

Hi Sheryl, I have been doing a bit of the same... minus the PBing... and I can't think of a better place for you to get the support and encouragement you need. It's a New Year... perfect time for a new start... never easy but easier if there are others fighting the same fight along side of you. Darcy

Hi Teresa... my Taures is a 1999... I normally wouldn't buy a car with all the bells and whistles... but this was the one they had on the lot... needless to say... all the electronic fancy smanshy stuff has led to oodles of problems with the electronics... all of the seatbelts have needed to be replaced as well. I think it is just a bit of a lemon... my Mom had a Taures and it never gave her a days worth of trouble?
-
Well at least I don't have to be considerate or tolerant since Greg is taking on those resolutions! I think I'll just set a couple of goals for the New Year since "resolutions" scare the bajeebers out of me! Goal #1- Get out and swim this summer and ta hell with what people might be thinking about how I "look" ... I LOVE swimming and have avoided it for years... No more I tell Ya!!! Goal #2- Reach 190# by my bandiversary date. There are lots of things I would love to work on/ change in the new year... all in good time and one step at a time. Happy New Year Everyone!

Woo Hoo Vicki!!!! Congratulations... bandland awaits you! Darcy -
Ohhhh how your joints will thank you! I don't TROD slowly up the stairs anymore... I bound minus all of the pain I used to have. Giving up my addiction to Diet Coke didn't turn out to be that bad... BUT... there are still times when I see a frosty glass of beer and wish I could have a sip or two! There is a definite learning curve after being banded... but now I really don't feel that different... it's almost as if I've always been banded. I am not working with my band very well right now... soooo... the pounds are not going off... but it is there waiting for me when I am ready to get back on the band wagon! Good luck with everything! Darcy

A woman unwrapped... you look AWESOME Alex! Darcy

I have a Taures wagon that I purchased used... I bought the extended warranty... THANK GOD... because it paid for itself with the first breakdown... it has had two major problems since that time. So... I got boring and undependable... I swear... I must have a rain cloud over my head. The BEST... most dependable car I ever had was a Maxima... I sold it when I started a daycare... and have never stopped missing it. I have owned two minivans... dodge... and both have been very reliable and handy for hauling everything under the sun... including children. Good luck Teresa... I'd sell ya my Taures... but I like you too much. Darcy

LOL Greg... Now... I know that Sue is tough... but... all of us together could probably take her??? Okay... on the count of three... 1... 2...

Nope... they do a different type of wool project every month... the next one is a wool snowman that is meant to be framed as a picture... it's flipping adorable. I love making the quilts... but it is nice to have the variety of different things thrown in. My sister just took up knitting... I am absolutely sure I am not talented enough to knit! Hmmmm... Greg.... what do you do to keep your hands busy?????
-
Wow... when it rains... it pours! Hope the new year brings better things and glad that all is well with your band!
-
Yup... I'm working on yet another quilt... finished a bunch of little quilting projects and got the itch to do something bigger. I have the top finished... and working on building a stash with all of the quilting sales going on. I'll take a pick unless I totally screw it up when I do the actual quilting part. I joined a wool club as well... first project was a wee hooked rug... pretty cute but wouldn't want to start another expensive hobby! I wouldn't jump to conclusions about Greg's hands... perhaps he is overhauling an engine or something like that.

Nahhhhhhhhhhhhh.... I'm an old dog and new tricks are out of the question Miss Becky. There's never been anything in my stocking... I'd probably think it was a matter of mistaken identity if I found goodies in there! I know you are a very good girl Miss Becky... your stocking should be spilling over with good things! Good to know in regards to the thread...
-
Yes....buuuuutttt... none of the other Christmas threads have disappeared???? Come on... we don't hafta start being nice for Santa already... do we????? By the way... my stocking was empty... nada... nuttin in der... hollow... vacant.

One-on-one holiday exercise challenge, anyone?
nightingale2u replied to Zoe's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I wasn't gonna... didn't think I could face it... but I did... OY... 3 lb gain... not a big surprise! BUT... normally I gain 10 or more pounds during the holidays... so... not all is lost... or gained. I am actually happy it was only 3 lbs... I deserved much more for the very naughty things I ate! Time to get back to business... and... time to make another appointment for a fill. I sure am glad my scale doesn't actually talk... Darcy -

Looking good there girl! What a beautiful family you have! -
Well... in our backyard we have chocolate chunks to go with the banana cones. According to our dogs... they are quite edible.

Well I'm all for as much luck as I can garnish! Besides... it does look pretty... I think I'll go take a nap instead! Darcy
