    Work Travel With The Band

Thanks for the reply wildrose! Yea, I think my luggage will be a problem. I'm going to see if I can get it down to one of those small carry-on bags. That's going to be tough for me though - especially for a week-long trip, lol. I keep hearing about Optifast, so I'll look into that and see if I can have some of that on hand. Maybe I'll even buy a small blender to put in my luggage if needed. That's great that your recovery has been uneventful! I hope mine is the same. I'm just worried about being 600 miles from home and having some horrible issues. I think I'll be okay - maybe I'm just overthinking it, lol.
  2. Hey Everyone, I'm in the days before my first appointment with my surgeon and I've been coming up with questions to ask. My biggest question is, will I be well enough after surgery to travel for work? I have a job where I travel weekly Mon through Fri and I'm only home on the weekends. I can definitely schedule a week off work for my surgery and recovery time. And I can even try to get another week where I'm in our main office working and not travelling, but soon after that, I'm going to have to get back on the road. I usually fly and I'm usually lugging my 40lb suitcase back and forth to the airport. I heard that lifting anything heavy was a big no-no after surgery. What do you guys think? Has anyone else here had to travel a couple of weeks after surgery? Is this okay? How did you handle your post-op diet being away from home? I'm really nervous that the doctor is going to tell me that my travelling is going to be a problem when I get banded. I really like my job, but I really want my lapband

    Am I Different

This topic was exactly what I needed! Thank you all for your responses. I'm feeling a lot better about this decision and whether or not this will be something I can stick with. I haven't been banded yet and I'm going for my initial appointment in 2 weeks. Today, I've really been feeling like "what's the point?" I knew that I failed at many diets in the past and I couldn't understand how this was going to be any different for me. But after reading this thread, I can totally see myself not wanting to sabotage my weight loss. If I'm actually seeing results, that might motivate me to do better. Obviously, I still love certain junk food, but I think that would be a small sacrifice if I'm actually losing the weight and seeing results. Now I'm motivated again - great thread!

    Hello, Newbie Here...

Thanks for the replies! NurseLydsss, congrats on your surgery. Sounds like it's been tough for the first few days, but it's totally going to be worth it. I can't wait! Thank you both for the advice! I'm definitely having my mom stay with me during that first week. I'm going to tell her a.s.a.p. My son will be thrilled to have her around for a week. I might just try to talk her into 2 weeks, lol.

    Hello, Newbie Here...

Hi Theboysmom, Thanks for responding and sharing your experience! I'm so happy to hear that you love your band. My son is 10 and he's the reason I'm doing this too. He's so active now and I want to have just as much energy as he does so that we can do more things together. My only concern with being a single mom is caring for my son after surgery. I'm wondering if I will need help around the house after surgery. I'm thinking about bringing my mom down for help, but I know she can't stay longer than a week. I just don't know what the recovery time is like or if it's going to be difficult. Great idea about the support group! I'm going to definitely ask the surgeon about a support group. I've tole a few of my family members and friends, but they all live so far away. It would be great to have support I can see, lol.
  6. Hello All, I'm new to the site and wanted to introduce myself. I'm Rolanda and I live in Arlington, TX. I'm a single mom working full-time. I became really interested in LapBand surgery this year when I failed at Weight Watchers again. I'm hoping that this surgery can give me a push in the right direction. I'm currently researching doctors and hope to decide on someone by the end of the month. I have a lot of questions and can't wait to get into some of the discussions so I can get a better understanding of what I'm getting into I guess I should mention that I'm new to Texas and don't have many friends or family to support me on this. For those of you that have been banded, how important is a support system? Also, I would love to talk to other single moms that have gone through this and find out their experiences.
