I know it sounds counter-intuitive, but adding calories really helps. it kicks your body out of starvation mode where your body is desperately holding on to every calorie and gram of fat. more shakes worked for me cos I can fit more in. my surgeon told me yesterday that I'm half way there with the weightloss... which kinda freaks me out. Halfway there ALREADY??? does this mean it will go at a snail pace for the next 2 years? -

Me too!!!! Bruising!!! I woke up with bruises on my boobs and was like "huh, I haven't done anything that would bruise there" cos... ya know... sometimes you do things that can bruise there . but I havent since surgery so I was confused. Makes sense though, lack of padding -

Lol nope. I was freaking out about hair loss too, so I got half my hair bleached then had a rainbow of colour put through. Cos I thought if I'm gonna lose hair it might as well come out in a rainbow... -

my surgery was 30 November. I've started trying to "master" salad veges. tomatoes are going down well, lettuce is a bit weird to chew. Onions seem to be doing ok, and cucumbers without the skins. I have been naughty and have been having blueberries too - its summer here so all the summer fruits are available and delicious - such a temptation I am working on getting protein, but its becoming boring, no matter what I do to it. chew chew chew. I seem to be able to eat most things, but did stall for a couple of days over new years cos I was drinking low calorie (but still containing sugar) juice as my new years treat. lost 18 kgs post op (39 pounds I think) -
My finger tips are now hydration meters...

Weird weird weirdness My fingertips now go wrinkly if I'm not hydrated enough. Handy meter to keep an eye on it, but so weird. Anyone else getting wrinkly fingers? -

I have issues getting my fluids. I just want to skull them back, because it's been damn hot here, but I can't. Instead i go jump in the local pool. Doesn't help with the wrinkles, but cools me down and treading Water is doing wonders for my calves. At least my fingers are a good reminder to go sip on something. I'm also making snow from crystal lite ice cubes shoved in the blender. It's like a sorbet. -
Has anyone else noticed that their body odour has changed? Not just sweat related smells but... other emissions? Sometimes I go a bit cross eyed at the stink coming out of me...

Hey Ladies. I have no idea if I'm getting enough protein.... I should probably be measuring. I started my multivitamins and that was reallly aweful. I was well nauseated by them, even though they were chewable - what was worse was I was on a bus into town when the nausea hit. worst. feeling. ever. My pouch is not a morning pouch. My morning pills seem to drop in and hit the bottom of it with a thud. It also hates cold drinks, which sucks since I prepared a whole bunch of crystal lite ice cubes before surgery. A friend brought me some crystal lite back from the states (I live in New Zealand), and I was hoping since its summer here to have blended Ice for liquids (and to blend my fibre into lol). Sadly its room temperature "flavoured" water for me... I also Dumped for the first time last week because I was very very weak... I thought that if I mushed up a chip at the pub quiz I was at, that would be ok.... really really wasnt. Anyone else dumped yet? -
When will I 'get over it'?
pwnykat replied to monikazgreat's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I totally understand the testing. My surgery was 30 November, and I did my first dump last week. yep less than 2 weeks out I pushed to far. Before that I was losing 1kg (~2 pounds) a day. then I slowed to a couple hundred grams a day.... depressing. I had also started having juice with "reduced" sugar - watered down too - but I think that tiny bit of sugar really stalled me. Back on track now with disgusting fake flavoured juice and zero sugar. It might also be a bowel thing if you aren't moving that. My sister said the human body can hold between 7 and 10 kgs of poop in the intestines at any time - thats 14 - 20 pounds. so if you aren't "moving" properly you might want to try some alpine tea to help move things along. -

When Does The Pain Stop And The New Life Start?
pwnykat replied to pwnykat's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks all. I had a terrified moment this evening when I ate 2 bites of banana. Baby tummy was not impressed, it spiked pain. I don't think it was dumping, but it knocked me down. -

Stupid iPhone. Anyway I know I'm getting better, but my pouch is noisy and the shoulder pain won't go away and every time I take a pill it's like dropping a brick in my pouch. Then I have to go lie down. How long til I can expect it to stop hurting like a mo fo? -
its ok ladies. noone said it would be easy. you will still be losing, just at a slower rate. try to remember why you chose to do this, what hoops you went through, and what it really means to you. We're in this together, no judging, just support. I just had my first post op meal - chicken stock and yogurt... I know I'm not hungry but I am craving a cheese scone damnit!
-
day 1 post op, and I am so alive!!! Just had "Dinner" of chicken broth and a spoonful of yogurt. doing awesomely. shoulder pain from the gas, but its ok with the heat pack on it. been to the toilet, had visitors, just generally awesome! I am glad I get another night in hospital though, the moving bed helps heaps. Much love to all my loser sisters and brothers.

Wow what a dick. That made me so so so mad. No one can tell you you're eating the wrong thing except your surgeon, nut and yourself. Stuff him, the unsupportive git needs a good slapping. Angry on your behalf mommy

Struggling With Pre-Op Diet
pwnykat replied to madi's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
30lb before Jan is totally do-able! tough but do-able. I think it will be especially hard since there is xmas in the middle there, but you can do it!! I have surgery in 2 sleeps, and I have lost 27lb in 6 weeks. Optifast x2 a day, plus one meal of Protein the size of your palm and as many veges as you want. No sugar, no fat, lots of celery with HOMEMADE salsa (its important its homemade cos the store bought always has lots of sugar in it. Switch to Stevia to sweeten things, sugarfree Jelly. Eat as many veges as it takes to be full. I keep a bag of tomatoes at my desk at work. people think I am insane but I am so so so hungry. I've also added extra walking into my commute. I was walking 1km each way, now up to 3km each way - it hurts and it sucks at first, but it is so worth it, and when you start to lose the weight and look better in your clothes it will be totally worth it and a taste of whats to come post op. I believe in you! keep in contact and we can work through this together. It is so hard, and sometimes you'll need sympathy, and sometimes you will need a kick in the butt. add me to your myfittness pal - I only just started using it but it has been really helpful. my username is pwnykat -
2 sleeps to go. The surgical nurse yesterday said that they squeeze out all the gas they can, and just a little bit thats left bubbles up to the shoulder... is that the gas pain you guys are talking about? or do they not squeeze your gas out over there?
-
Just seen the surgical nurse, had the ECG (my heart is AWESOME), went shopping and got a chicken saag curry to portion out and freeze - I just hope I can eat it!. eating sugarfree Jelly with optifast pudding for lunch, and wishing I had thought of that 6 weeks ago... I'm so excited, 3 sleeps to go! Blood tests and Mirena checkup on Thursday morning, then off to hospital at 10 on Friday! there are 5 of us having the same surgery with the same surgeon, so hopefully I can meet them and have races down the hall ways
