    Starting the Process

Debbie I had my surgery 3 weeks before my 38th birthday..and I told my Dr. I do not want to be fat at 40..it has been 10 months and I have lost 80 lbs. Went from a size 22 to a size 12..I am 20 lbs from my original goal i set the day of my surgery. My Dr. told me I would have it all gone before I was 40..I believe he was right..Best of Luck to you You have come to the right place for support. We all are one big happy loving family here

    Help

I agree with Lisa..why is your Dr. allowing you to eat so soon post op. I had no food for 4 weeks. The band has to set in place, any digestive process by eating solid foods can interupt that with all the rumbling and churning it takes to digest those solids and you can risk slippage. What are you eating? THe pain in the shoulder I have heard from others is trapped gas from when they pumped the Co2 into you to do the surgery..it goes away after a week or two The air you are experiencing is also from the Co2 and the pain could be from the swelling and the air cant not make it's way out very easily. I experienced the same thing the first 3 weeks I had horrible pain in my diaphram area right under my breast bone, each day got better.. I think everything you are feeling when lying down, sitting or standing is from the gas and swelling..but still question your doctor on what you should be eating 4 days post op, that does not seem normal to me. Good Luck, Hang in there...you made the right decision this is just a bump in the road
  9. Hi Mike & welcome to the board. I have heard great things about Dr. Rumbaut. I went to Mexico also for my surgery but to Tiajuana not Monterey for thesame reasons , my insurance would not cover me..I have no regrets with my decision to go to Mexico I have recieved better care from my Dr. in Mexico then I have from any Dr. here in the states. Best of Luck to you, sorry I can not answer the guy question. Are you planning on going back to Monterey for your fills and aftercare? Do you have a Dr. lined up in NYC in the event of an emergency? I would highly reccomend it if you don't yet. Here is Inameds web site www.lapband.com. It gives a list of surgeons in NY,( click on surgeon locator)maybe you can call some of them to see if they take patients banded in Mexico..many US Dr.'s do'nt and the ones that do charge an arm and a leg but it is best to have someone in the event of an emergency.. Wishing you the best on your journey..

    Please tell me...

This does not sound good...is it hot to the touch? Keep an eye on it, it is hard for a Dr. to tell you since he is not visually seeing it. If you feel it is does not look right, then it most likely doesnt. We know our bodies better then anyone. Go to your PCP to se if it is infected. Any doubt do not wait, the last thing you want is a port infection. GOing to your PCP is not going to hurt none , it will just giveyou peace of mind if it is not infected. Good Luck

    medications and lapband

I have heard conflicting theories on the NSAID's and the band so I play it safe and just take tylenol for minor aches and pains. I have yet to have to take any antibiotic since banding yet ..but as you get tighter withyour fills you will find that many pills will not go through as easily and get stuck . I used to be able to take tylenol caplets but since my last fill I can only take liquid tylenol...I keep a bottle of it in my purse
  16. Fatih many doctorswill give you a cardfrom Inamed to keep in your wallet to let those who need to know in theevent of an emergency that you do have the Lap Band. My Dr. gives his patients a credit card type card with ourpictures on it with all of our info in the event of an emergency to give to the ER or paramedics etc..

I have to ask about Cancun...

When I was in Tj at Dr. Orti'z officefor a visit, he told me he was opening centers all across the U.S for fills. Using doctors who are American who he has personally proctored. There was going to be one on the east coast in NY and one in Florida and I my memory is correct I think he said Texas...These are for his patients who have travled across the US to either Mexico or Cancun for surgery ..I'm sure if you call his office they will tell you for sure. Also there are a few women on his board www.lapbandforum.com that have gone to Cancun for their surgeries, maybe they can help answer your questions.

    New fill is a challenge

I'm so glad you have relief Blossom, you will probably still have nice restriction when it comes to eating solids but now it wont be such a struggle getting in for both liquids and solids...
  19. La_madam

I know I should know this but,...

Yes Bllossom I can guzzle water but I just ate 2 little pieces of popcorn chicken and can feel the restriction, Betty is right. The true test is when you eat your hard solid proteins. The half cc is gone is going to atleast help you get in your liquids. I'm gladyou went in for an unfill you did the right thing Blossom...

911 - DeLarla goes to the Emergency Room

Delarla, since it is going through your girly region and it has been 2 weeks since your last cycle..could it be you are ovulating? You do ovulate 2 weeks after cycle and I have noiticed a huge increase in sharp pains in my girly region when I ovulate ever since surgery, it gets so bad I can not hardly stand up and Iam in tears. I have been abvle to feel my ovulation cycles much more clearer since I have lost weight..Mine does have that feeling like it could almost be gas but I know the feeling so well now and the timing is always 2 weeks after my cycle..so I have pin pointed it to ovulation..

What happens to all that extra skin??

With a BMI of 34.9 I do not think you have anything to wrry about. I had a BMI of 44.1 and now have a BMI of 30.8 and I am not even concerned with my loose skin it is minimal and I have stretch marks galore but I dont have much hanging sagging skin, atleast not enough to have plastic surgery for..

    11 days on

Rachel I am very suprised you are getting a fill so soon and are eating olives and crackers and eggs 11 days post op. Most surgeons will not do a fill until 6 weeks post op. They want to be sure your are healed and your band and port are set in place. What were your doctors post op eating instructions Im curious? Eating solids so soon after surgery is usually not reccomended because again they want your swelling to have gone down and to have everything set in place before you have to go through the digestive procees of digesting solids since it can make the stomach turn and rumble and could possibly make your band slip if it is not totally healed and set in place., anchored in place as some say, It seems strange but every doctor is different, I wish you the best
