    First time PB

My Dr. requires 24 hours of liquids after a PB, I did not take his instructions very well and had a horrible PB which then resulted in a terrible case of Esophagitis for 2 weeks where all I could do was liquids. , so now I do the 24 hours of liquids after a PB, I do not wish esophagitis on my worst enemy. Sometimes a PB can be a vicisous cycle if you do not go on liquids since a PB can cause swelling in the esophagus, if you try to eat again later or the next day there is a higher chance of PBing again. PB, eat, Pb eat..vicious cycle. If it were me I would do liquids for 24 hours. PS. tortillas are one of the only things I can not and will not eat ever again unlees they are fried. I had a horrible PB on a bite of a tortilla from a burrito. Never again will I eat a tortilla!

    New Bandster!

Hi Ryanne Welcome to LBT It would be my guess that you are stilll swollen, since your surgery was less then a week ago. You are one of the lucky ones. I was not on mush food until 4 week post op and solids at 6 weeks post op. I was on liquids for the first 3 weeks for the reason of swelling and wanting to be sure my band set in place and I did not have to digest any food that could create a problem since digestion is such a turning and churning process for your stomach, my Dr. wants to make sure all the swelling from surgery is gone and my band is anchored in tightly and I am healed before I get food, however once the swelling went down for me and I was able to eat I did have the pain in my chest like restriction feels like. I was lucky enough to not need a fill until 10 weeks post op. I had decent restriction from the initial placement of the band. So it could be a little of both you are experiencing. Good Luck to you and Congratulations on your new band
  3. Corgi, remember that sometime a PB can cause swelling which will make you feel like you have more restriction if you try to eat solids, this is why most Dr.s reccomend 24 hrs ofliquids after a PB otherwise it can become a vicious cycle. PB..eat..PB..eat etc.. Give it some time, your body went through an ordeal thislast week with all of this. It iwll loosen up in time. Hang in there
  4. Hi Denise Welcome and Congratulations on your new band. I wish you much success with your new band, this is a great site for support. Many members here have lots of advice and knowledge which will help you along in your journey

    Sweet spot, fact or fiction????

Debbie, I have the "sweet spot" to be a myth but I ave also heard it to be true from fellow bandsters. In my own experience, I do not think I ever have hit it or ever will. I am 10 lbs from goal and have lost 90 lbs in a little over a year. I have had 3 fills in that time. I do not plan on getting any more fills. Somedays it feels like I have great restriction and I do not get hungry for hours and hours and other days I have no restrictiomn where I am hungry again within 1-2 hours. I just take it as it comes. I'm trying like hell to get these 10 lbs off using my head more then the band but the band is there to help me, no doubt about it. This is just my experience

    New Bander here

Hi J.S. Welcome to LBT Congratulatiuons on your new band! Sounds like things are going good so far by the tone of your post. Who did your surgery? Where do you live? Hows the weight loss going so far? Dixie, to answer your question I do believe there is a member here who is 62 who has the band. Her name is Sharbythesea, if you do a member search and send her a PM I am sure she will be happy to answer any questions you might have. Her and I were banded by the same Dr. Best of luck to both of you

Problems sitting on couch/ in chairs

Sounds like gas to me too. Iam a year post op and I find that if I sit for a period of time I get horrible gas pains. I just had it happen the other night sitting for 2 hours keeping score at my son's baseball game. I had to get up and walk around in between innings. I was dying. I keep Gas X with me all time in my purse, sometimes it helps, sometimes it doesnt. Walking helps!

    Im Starving!!!help!

are you allowed to have protein shakes yet? If so go to the store and grab a ready made can of the Atkins Advantage Chocolate flavor and pour it over ice. It has lots of protein and the protein will help with the hunger. Be careful with the mashed potatoes so soon after surgery. I know every doctor gives different post op instructions, I was not allowed mashed potatoes until 3 weeks post op. I was told eating anything that I would have to digest was not good for me so soon after surgery. It is important to let your band set in place and for you to heal from the inside. Digestion can make your tummy have a work out trying to digest any mushy or solid foods. Take it slow. Try a protein shake it will help. Hang in there it does get better

removed 2.5cc of my first fill

Phew! Glad you clarified that. Having .25 removed should make a difference in being able to eat but still give you restriction. I hope this fill level works better for you
  10. La_madam

I think I've finally been approved.

Great News, I hope you get a date for surgery soon. Let us know

    Fill doctor... anyone?

Sorry Penni, did not mean to I just cut and pasted the list I have on file, maybe this list is outdated. I got this list from Inamed well before I was banded when I was researching the band almost 2 years ago and I know it goes by distance from my zip code, maybe Dr. Billy was out of the 100 mile range. Please add his name, addres and number to the list for future reference for other patients.

    May walking challenge

Sounds like a good challenge, I have been lagging in the exercise department and I have a brand new pedometer Inamed sent me in the mail. Maybe this challenge will help me get these last 10 lbs I have to lose to get to goal. Iam all in! Great idea Zoe
  13. La_madam

removed 2.5cc of my first fill

That does not make sense 2.25 is greaterthen 1.75 could you of meant .25 cc's? If you had 1.75 and they removed .25 then you would be at 1.5cc's I would find out for sure, that needs to be clarified for your own personal records.

    Fill doctor... anyone?

Isa, if you live in San Diego Tiajuana has some good band doctors who will do fills on patients banded anywhere. Dr. Kuri Dr. Ortiz are both very experienced and have a good reputation with their patients on fills. There are several other Dr.'s in TJ, it is just a matter of finding the one who is best for you. Good Luck

    Diet after banding?

Hi Longhorn I eat what I want, however I do focus on Protein first and make sure I get in my 60 grams a day. I have a hard time with breads, pasts and rice, you will come to find out by trial and error which foods work best for you. I do not feel like I am on a diet. I do not have to weigh my foods, count points , buy certain "diet" foods. I do find myself making better food choices now I have lost 90 lbs since April6th 2004 without dieting and still enjoying food!
  18. Lauren that seems to be the consensus with most bandsters. Tight in the morning and wide open in the evening. Many of us here struglle at night time due to this occurance. I try to drink alot of water in the evening to keep me from eating, even thought I pee all night it is better then the alternative of eating. I also try and stay busy in the evenings.

Recovery Time - work and motorcycling

As far as going back to work, retunring to work I think depends on the type of job you have. I run a restraunt, on my feet all day, and around food all day long so I opted to take an extra week off even though I felt great I did not know how I would handle being around food all day long while still on the liquid phase , it was more of a mental thing for me then physical.
  20. 11.25 lbs a month, thats a loss of over 2 lbs aweek You bet I would be happy! Average weight loss with the band is 1-3 lbs a week. Looks like you are above average. Great Job, do not be discouraged by this at all. Be Proud!!
  21. I keep that demon out of my house. Regardless if my husband is an ice cream junkie and eats it every singel night!v , I can not use that as a reason or excuse to have it in my home. If he wants it every night he now goes out every night and gets it or stops on the way home from work and picks some up for later in the evening. It's all about choices and not making excuses. My husband realizes it is a problem for me to have it in the house and he is doing everything in his power to support me. If it is not around I will not go looking for it or to the store to buy it. Do you keep it in the house? If so , maybe try to not have it around, you know the saying out of sight out of mind My demon is chocolate

    Out of Control

Bigmom you can do it. It is a vicious cycle when we start on the junk food it just spirals. I have battled the demon with chocolate and when I do I make bad choices for days. Purger yourself from the sugar. Drink lots of watertomorrow, no sugar, no carbs getyourprotein in. Protein curbs the appetite and supresses the bad cravings. Carbs crave carbs and sugar craves sugar, the more you eat of those the more you want. I have been where you are trust me, I went back to basics. Protein first, lots of water. Tomorrow is a new day. Do not beat yourself up about it, you know what to do, its a matter of doing it, you can do this!

Getting ready and need energy boost!

I was having problems with no energy..I went to the doctor this week and had blood drawn, my results were that I was severly anemic which causes lethargicness. I started an iron suplement last week and have noticed a huge difference in my energy level.
  24. La_madam

    Help!!!

Are you getting in enough fluids? Sometimes dehydration can cause headaches . The grumbling stomach can also be from the gas, when I first had my surgery the 2 weeks after it was hard for me to determine if it was hunger rumble or gas rumble. How is your protein intake? Protein will help curb hunger and help with the shakes..try a protein shake or eat some protein that should help. Hang in there is does get better each day
  25. La_madam

    When to stop eating??

Lauren everyone's signal is different, some may not even have a signal . When you get stuck, how much have you eaten? Sometimes when I get stuck it is in the beginning of my meal within the first few bites, once they pass I seem to be fine. My "stop" signal is I get an ice cream headache. I have heardfrom others getting a subtlesignal like a runny nose or a pain in the shoulder or hiccups. In the beginning it was hard for me to determine when to stop, I finally figured it out after about 5 months.
