I had no problems with doins so either after surgery. I had a nice bowel movement the day aftersurgery. I'm sure my doctor knew but he did not tell me I couldnt eat so I did!

Kathy I had no reflux when I had esophagitis either, which is why I was so suprised I had it. You seem to be on top of things and are keeping a close eye on it all. Best of luck to you. Let me know if I can answer any questions for you , I suffered with it for 3 weeks.

how long do you have to wait for your first fill
La_madam replied to a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Most doctors require you to wait 6 weeks post op before your first fill but I have heard of other docotrs that do it sooner then that. -
Kathy here is some helpful info on Esophagitis, I experienced it and believe me it was not pleasant at all. I was on the prilosec in the beginning for my esophagitis but I was switched to Prevacid and it worked much better in treating my esophagitis, but it is more expensive and a prescription is needed for it , but well worth it Symptoms of Esophagitis * Difficulty when swallowing * Pain when swallowing * Burning sensation in the esophagus * Acid reflux (heartburn) * Oral lesions (herpes) Esophagitis is an inflammation and swelling of the esophagus. It is most often caused by acid-containing stomach contents refluxing back up into the esophagus. The most significant cause of acid reflux is gastroesophageal reflux disease. Other causes of reflux are hernias, vomiting, medications and surgery. Esophagitis can be caused by other conditions also. These include an infection that can develop in individuals with weakened immune systems, such as caused by HIV or certain medications such as corticosteroids. The infection can be caused by viruses, including herpes and cytomegalovirus, and fungi or yeast, especially Candida infections. Whether the condition is caused by the irritation from reflux of stomach contents or by infection, in either case the tissues of the esophagus become inflamed. If left untreated, this condition can become very uncomfortable, and can lead to difficulty when swallowing, ulcers in the esophagus, or scarring of the esophagus. In rare instances, a condition known as Barrett’s esophagus may develop which is a risk factor for cancer of the esophagus. How Esophagitis is Treated * Medications to reduce acid if gastroesophageal reflux disease is the cause * Antibiotics if an infection is the cause Prognosis For Those Who Have Esophagitis Whether the esophagitis is caused by reflux disease or an infection, both usually respond well to treatment. Complications of Esophagitis If esophagitis is not treated, it can cause: * Severe discomfort * Malnutrition or dehydration because of swallowing difficulties * Scarring of the esophagus, which can lead to a stricture of the esophagus. * In rare cases, Barrett's esophagus, which can lead to cancer of the esophagus. I hope this info helps you and I hope you feel better soon, Esophagitis is something I wouldnt ever wish on my worst enemy, it was horrible.

Rice fro mthe sushi was one of my worst PB's, so I can relate to exactly what you went through, glad it passed

I do not know how much protein to eat to keep your hair from falling out but I do know the reccomended ammount for us bandsters is 60 grams a day. Most protein drinks are loaded with protein, the ones I drank had 20 grams in each can. 3 of those in a day and I was in good shape getting in 60 grams.

Thank God after reading your post Blue Bell has not reached California yet but I can relate to the 10 for 10 thing and the self check-out lane. I indulge in both of those everytime I grocery shop!

Looks like I will be going to Mexico alone . . .
La_madam replied to kellyk's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Iam an Ortiz patient, Going alone is no big deal, once you get there they take good care you & you are never alone , you will meet the others there getting their surgery. I go alone for my fills. I did not go alone for my surgery. Mrs. Ortiz and Junior take good care of you. You have no worries I promise. I know that is easy for me to say but it is the truth. -
TrishS GOT HER BAND TODAY!!!!!
La_madam replied to Jammin & Losin's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Trish Congratulations! Im happy to see you are home and doing so well. Those little aches and pains get better as each day passes. I agree , a heating pad was my friend. My main pain was from the gas , so I would place it on my tummy like a hot water bottle. -
Hi Flower, I was not laid up at all, as a matter of fact me and two other of my band buddies who were banded at the same time as I was in Mexico all went shopping the very next day in TJ on El Revolucion ( main shopping street in TJ where all tourists go) I was not even prescribed pain meds, I was just told to take liquid tylenol. Everyone is different however and I am sure you will get various replies on this subject. Good luck on your upcoming surgery

Flour tortillas and Sushi were two of my worst PB's ever. I do miss a Krispy Creme Donut

Everyone is so different in this category. I was able to get my first fill at 6 weeks post op, but I had enough restriction from surgery to not need one until 10 weeks post op. I had restriction once I was on solids.I have had 3 fills in a 13 months down 91 lbs

Babs, I know for me, I do not lose lbs but I lose inches. It is a mind set we have to get over, we can not let the scale dictate to us on our success. Inches lost is just as good as lbs lost in my book. How are your clothes fitting? Any looser? I went from a 16-12 quickly with not much lbs lost , it was the inches. Don't get discouraged. You know you are doing everything right The scale will move but in the meantime focus on the possitive things you have noticed from working out so diligently and eating healthier.

Have to go to A nutrition counselor before I get a fill. ADVICE PLEASE
La_madam replied to Nykee's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Nykee, now that is progress!!! You have done great, remember baby steps. One day at a time. Looks like you have the right attitude and are realing trying to deal with those "head demons". If you can do that then you are going to do great.Breaking old habits that we have done for years can be difficult but it sounds like you are really putting forth an effort. I'm happy for you -
Corgi, that is great news. I'm so glad you are feeling better Strange how so little a .25 cc's can make such a huge difference in being able to eat but still give good restriction. If you look at how much .25cc's is, it does not look like much. Thanks for letting us all know how you are doing.

Sushi and I are good friends, in place of the seaweed though I ask them to use rice paper, it is much thinner and much easier to chew then the seaweed. Just be careful with the rice, I was fine with it until I started getting my fills, my 2nd official PB was on rice form sushi, but now I have learned

A reason for hair loss I was told are lack of protein and the anasthesia from surgery can do thisas well. I have been banded for 1 year now and I still lose hair so when I see more hair then normal I know I need more protein in my diet.

What a great day to be banded on, April 26th is my birthday Congratulations to you, hope you have a successful journey.

True or False? --- banding is better for large eaters, by-pass for those who eat normal amounts of junk food or sweet tooths. True or False? --- banding has a higher long-term success due to the ability to re-fill versus a weight loss window. True in my opinion and al lthat I have read on the subject True or False? ---- you do not lose your hair with banding. False I lost hair True or false? --- banding requires much more will power and ability to avoid fattening high calory foods like chips, sweets, carbs. which could prevent any weight loss. I eat pretty much what I want, It's all about quantity now with the band True or False? ---- if you don't lose the weight within your 13-15 month period with by-pass, you are stuck since your body will have become efficient at working on less caloriesand make it near impossible to lose more. True or False? --- many people with banding only lose a small amout of weight in the first two years and often require up to four years to lose 100 or more pounds? False, I have lot 91 lbs in a year and 3 weeks. These answers are from my experience only
