The reason you can not burp is mst likely from the swelling from surgery. I had the same problem, it felt like it was trapped . My Dr. told me as well as other bandsters it was from swelling in the diaphram area and right under the area where the band was placed..after the swelling goes done you will be able to burp, however for me, I have not been able to burp like I did pre band and Iam 15 months post op but I sure can pass gas from the other end now

I asked my Dr. this question recently, he told me a port is most likely to flip within the first 3 months after surgery because you have done something strenous, before it has healed and scar tissue has formed.. it is important to not do too much exercise or strenous activity until the incision is healed and some scar tissue has built up around the port area inside. Port flipping after 3 months out is rare, is what he told me.

Trish, here is a good site for that question http://lapbandtransformation.com/Adjustments.htm For me it is when I can eat more but still following the rules making good food choices, prtoein first drinking my Water, a little exercise and the scale does not move for 3 weeks. I was unfilled for 2 months and was refilled on June 20th to 1 cc..3 weeks of following the rules and seeing no movement on the scale I went back on Monday for another .5 cc and it has made a huge difference. I can feel I have lost weight this week..I will weigh Monday morning

I had gastritis, which can lead to an ulcer I had zero symptoms until I was unfilled then had symptoms. It was diganosed with an endoscopy. I had another surgery that is how it was detected. I was on nexium and prilosec for 2 motnhs and antibitotic for 3 weeks, I was checked on June 20th it was all clear so now I have a fill again. Call your Dr. explain it to him, he can do an endoscopy to see for sure what it is, or he may prescribe Nexium or Prevacid or some kind of acid blocker. He needs to be aware of this.

I have the same card as Barbara from Dr. Ortiz

Many of us had insurance that would not cover the band and if they did some of us had no co - morbitities that go along with being obese. This is why many of us went to other countries, it is less expensive to self pay in another country.. I was told by my PCP I was a healthy obese person, if you could believe that! Now Iam a healthy overweight person. I had a BMI of 42 now it is 29 and still going lower

Hunnie, Iam glad to hear you called your Dr. I hope tomorrow brings some relief for you

Karen and I have the same Dr. and I was told by him that if you can not eat solid Protein all the time, you may be too tight. With this new fill I do not eat until around 11:00 am but it is all solid protein. Since yoou can not get liquids in until the afternoon..are you drinking enough Water? By what you described it doesnt look like 60 grams of protein a day? Not trying to be negative but most you described in the part of the day are either mushy foods or liquid calories . Losing two lbs a week is great but with the low ammount of protein you are eating you are most likely losing lean muscle mass which in the end will make you flabby.( according the the 2 nutritionalists and my Dr. I have seen since being banded) This is another reason the 60 grams of protein are so important to not lose lean muscle mass and to help curb your appetite and cravings. Here is an excerpt from the Inamed handbook that is valuable to your situation With the Lap Band system in place, you should be able to eat only small ammount so the food you eat should be as healthy as possible. Do not fill your stomach pouch with :junk: food that lacks Vitamins and other important nutrients. Your meals should be high in protein and vitamins and low in carbs. solid food is more important then liquid food or soft food. The lap Band system will have little or no effect if you only eat liquid or soft food. It passes through the stomach outlet very quickly and does not make you feel full. Here is another excerpt form the book If the adjustment (fill) results in too tight of a stomach opening you could have a hard time eating most foods, sometimes this causes people to avoid solid foods. They may drink liquid meals or soft food meals and this may result in weight gain. A band that is too tight may cause reflux symptoms and can also cause frequent vomiting. I hope this info helps you

Hi Niece, Welcome to LBT on a big congratulations on your up coming surgery. Keep us posted and let us all knowhow it goes for you once you are homeand up to it.. Best of luck to you
-
One more thing, regardless if you think you are not too tight, not being able to get in liquids in unhelathy and I know that my Dr. would make me come in for an unfill to give my stoma and esophagus a rest if I werein this situation, and I think many other Dr.'s would too..the longevity of your band and your health are at stake here. Do the right thing and Please call your Dr. I agree 100% with this statement.
-
You need to call your doctor, you may have some blockage something maybe be stuck and hung up and can not pass through, this does happen and hI have seen it happen to a bandster who ate a piece of hot dog, Another bandster I know ate cereal after her fill and had to go to the ER to have her fill removed, not trying to scare you, but if liquids are not even going down then call your Dr. even after a PB you should be able to do liquids, if not then something is not right. There is a possibility of swelling from the vomiting but I would think you could still do liquids my fills take a week to really kick in..this could be the case for you. Regardless if you can not even get liquids down..you must call your Dr.

Help, I think I just PB'd for the first time
La_madam replied to g curtis's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Could be from absent mindedness or it could also be your fill has kicked in , the band is a very fickle thing..I can eat something one day and the next day the same thing gets stuck..my fills take a week or so to kick in. Take it easy therest of the day, some Dr.'s require liquids after a PB to reduce swelling in the stoma and the esophagus. -
I agree with this theory in my case.

Reading everyones pain, I am wondering why I had absolutely zero pain, and I have the lowest pain threshold, I did not take pain meds, all my doc gave was liquid tylenol. I was shopping in Tj the next day, maybe it was becasue I got out of bed very soon and walked to halls all day long after my surgery to rid some of the gas or to start it moving around. Sorry you are going through this uncomfortable stage, there is light at the end of the tunnel...hang in there each day is abetter day Congratualtions on your new band! I wish you lots of success
-
Seppi, get out and walk, walking is the best cure for the gas. If the protein drink is causing you gas, buy a protein drink with no whey or soy, but honestly tell your friend that many bandsters have gas pains for 2-3 weeks after surgery, it has nothing to do with the protein drinks. I was not allowed protein drinks for 10 days after my surgery, and I had gas. You are only 3 days post op, totally normal Seppi to have painful gas pains, again walking is thebest cure, maybe a little gas x too hang tough, it gets better
-
I love your honesty and accountability By puttingthis out on the table for all of us to read, it will not only help you but help others Iam sure Hang in there Alex, hormones can make us crazy, it will pass

Mushie stage: Crackers & Toast Yes or No
La_madam replied to Pamela218's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Honestly, I did not think crackers or toast were mushy foods. It was not on my list of mushies, if it is on your list and you Dr. says OK to it then Iam sure it will be OK -
Great News Penni, thanks for sharing it with us, please give her our best if you speak to her again before she comes home and posts.

ask for rice paper instead of the seaweed, it is thinner and much easier to chew. I ask for it al lthe time whenever I order sushi that has seaweed.
-
I was told bymy Dr. not to eat after 20 minutes or if defeatsthe purpose, if you are eating for an hour then food is passing through the band and the pouch is emptying as you eat which could bewhy you are not feeling full..there are aslo foodsthe banddoes not restrict. Can you eat a chickend breat in 20 minutes and not be satisfied? I could eat 2 pieces of pizza and but hard Protein is tougher for me..I feel more restriction when I eat hard Proteins.
