Help!!!! I'm Scared!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
La_madam replied to abrightfuture's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Micki, anytime you have a PB you need to do liquids for atleast 24 hours to give your esophagus a rest, your esophagus swells duting a PB which makes it happen again and angain if you eat again after a PB,it becomes a vicious cycle. Do liquids for 24 hours, give everything a rest and time to settle down, if after that you are not able to keep foods down then call your Dr. but Call your Dr. immedialtey if you can not keep liquids down. -
For me it is not the case, when i use a straw I get more gas, when i chew gum I get more gas, I used to use a straw all the time and chew gum, since speaking with my Dr. about my gas problem at my last fill, and him telling me about the gum and the straw causing more gas , I have avoided both and I rarely have gas any more...just my situation, everyone is different

overeating can stretch your pouch so it needs to be avoided at all costs. A pb is where the food is stuck, your mouth will water and you will produce a slime. If you vomit , many doctors do reccomend liquids for 24 hours after a PB, for the simple fact that your esophagus swells up wich will only make it happen again the next time you eat solids, this happend to me where I did nto do liquids after a PB and I got a bad case of esophagitis, very painful not fun I was only able to do liquids for 3 weeks. Pbing often also can result in your band slipping so try to avoid it . The band is fickle, somedays I have great restriction and other days I dont, there are also foods that the band just does NOT restrict this is why your hard proteins like chiken are best, the band will restrict them where as mashed potatoes wont be restricted, the band will not restrict softer foods and most junk foods, stick to hard proteins , veggies, stay away from softer foods. If you are eating these types of food they pass thorugh the pouch quicker and you get hungry again quicker. For me alot of my restriction comes from the foods I eat. Hope this helps you some. Congratulations on your new band, I wish you lots of success

I was told by my Dr. the straws will produce more gas , the band works as a 1 way valve which is why most of us have more gas since being banded.

Sounds just like what I had, GASTRITIS, different from Reflux Only detected through endoscopy which is how I found out I had it. Do you burp alot? Do you have a full feeling in your chest? Gastritis is not a single disease, but means inflammation of the stomach lining. Gastritis can be caused by drinking too much alcohol, prolonged use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), or infection with bacteria such as Helicobacter pylori. Sometimes gastritis develops after major surgery, traumatic injury, burns, or severe infections. Certain diseases, such as pernicious anemia, autoimmune disorders, and chronic bile reflux, can cause gastritis as well. Symptoms of Gastritis The most common symptoms are abdominal upset or pain. Other symptoms are belching, abdominal bloating, nausea, and vomiting or a feeling of fullness or of burning in the upper abdomen. Blood in your vomit or black stools may be a sign of bleeding in the stomach, which may indicate a serious problem requiring immediate medical attention. Ask your Dr. about gastritis. I took prilosec for 2 months nad it got better.

Seppi, you sound like you have restriction, not too tight. Some of the signs of being too tight are 1 Not being able to drink liquids 2 Reflux 3 Pbing often when you eat solids. The pain you are feeling the first few bites is normal, I have the same thing and I'm 17 months post op. You will learn what foods work for you and what do not but you hit the nail on the head when you said you decreased your food consumption, the band is doings it's job then, this is what it was designed to do.

Hi Darcey, How are you doing? Have you spoken with Dr. Ortiz about all of this, If my memory serves me correctly , if we had to be rebanded, the price would be less, I could be wrong, you and I both know though that Dr. Ortiz will do everything in his power to make sure he can help you get a new band. How long did he say you had to wait until you got a new band? I'm going to see him on halloween for another endoscopy to make sure all is good with my band , he was insistent I had another endo 6 months after my bowel obstruction surgery. If I had to be rebanded, I too would go back to Dr, Ortiz, I trust him completely also. I'm glad to see you here Darcey, I sure hope all is going good for you

It depends, I took 1 prevacid in the morning and one in the night, 20 mg Why didn't you telll at the bash about all of this? I hope you are doing better, PM me and tell me all about it. What kind of infection and what med did you have a reaction to?

My fills take about a week to kick in, one other thing for me, I do not know how it is for you, but if I eat oatmela in the morning and no protein, I'm starving all day long, when you can, eat protein in the morning and see if it helps, Those carbs in that oatmeal will only make you hungry agai nsooner and you wil lcrave more carbs, not to mention oatmeal is a soft mushy food which will go through your pouch faster and you will be hungry again quicker. Hard proteins first will make a difference in your hunger level later on.

French cut cotton striped bikinis for me

This is very common among bandsters, it has something to do with post nasal drip, many who get colds, their bands get tighter. You are not alone Hope you start to feeling better soon
-
I had the exact same thing, my Dr. told me not to worry about it that it was just my body getting used to having it in there. Mine got better after a couple of months. To ease your mind , wy dont you call your Dr. and tell him what you are experiencing, better to be safe then sorry.

I take the Centrum Chewables, they taste great

Yes prevacid is fine to take. also prilosec and Nexium, Francesca, make sure you are drinking a big glass of waterwith your antibiotic to make sure it does not dissovle in the pouch, this could be why you are having the reflux, wash the pill all the way through

Have you tried dark meat chicken like chicken leg or chicken thigh, also try it with some kind of sauce to dip in lie ranch dressing, or another thingthatworkedgreatfor mewhen I first started solids was chicken leg with canned green beans, it seemdwhen I took a bite of chicken with a bite of the green bean at the same time it went down easier. Or I also cooked groindbeef and poured spaghetti sauce over it and ate it with parmessan cheese sprinkled on top, it worked wel ltoo, sometimes you just need some lubrication with it to make it go down easier which is why some kind of sauce works good.
