Rate of weight loss preband/postband
La_madam replied to lildarlin's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Pre band..I never lost 100lbs+ like I did post band. Had I been able to, I would not of needed the band I guess -
The first step is knowing and admitting where you know you have gone wrong. I commend you for your honesty. One thing that helped me to get back on track was to journal my food intake. There issomething to be said about seeing what you eat on paper..it really helped me to make better choices, I wrote down everything even those bites here and there that you do not think matter, trust me they do. Try journaling your food, also write down the degree of hunger and what your mood is when you eat for example are you hungry, sad, mad , just wanting to eat etc.. once you see a pattern you can make the needed changes. Hang in there and good luck and just know you are not alone, many of usstruggle..I struglle now that I no longer have my band, jopurnaling has become even more important to me now since I have no band.

How long does your Dr. have you wait between fills
La_madam replied to Firecallie's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My Dr. would make me wait atleast 2 weeks between fills. My fills semed to kick in after a week. I never felt instant restriction -
Heck Yah! I just went and spent $220.00 at VIctorias Secret on Bras and matching panties.. I never looked better or have never felt better..band or no band I'm going to continue to maintain and continue to lose..John you are my inspiration, if you can do it without a band then so can I

talked to doc about erosion...he said....
La_madam replied to Maggie63's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Erosion is not an infection. I had no infection with my erosion It is odd to me that so many MX docs have more erosion then US docs since most MX docs are the ones who train the US docs. -
Happy Birthday..Hope your day is special and thanks for always being here so upbeat and supportive

I'm giving up daily protein shakes!
La_madam replied to lovecats85's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
The only time I drank protein shakes was after a fill when I was to be on liquids for 3 days..other then that they were just a waste of liquid calories that the band did not restrict. I got plenty of solid protein in daily. -
Alex what a wonderful accomplishment. I'm very proud of you and very happy for you . And YES I think you can do it!!! You will see the South side of 200 by November YOU GO GIRL!!!

I can get some fluid taken out...FINALLY!
La_madam replied to tambonzjo's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Tammy I am concerned for you too.. talk with your Dr. make sure your band has not slipped PBing that often can often and being that tight can result in a slip and a symptom of a slip is frequent vomiting, make sure your PBs are not from a slip. Not being able to keep anything down is a symptom of a possible slip Please keep us posted. Protein is so important even though you have had great weight loss, you may have lost alot of your lean muscle mass which is not good, this is why protein is so important, you will lose fat and not lean muscle mass. Drink your protein if you have too but get it in. -

Please post about your complications
La_madam replied to gadgetlady's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
It was related weight loss. After losing so much weight my intestines had more room to wrap around my scar tissue and adhesions I had from my 3 c- sections. Had I not had my band I would of not lost all this weight so to me it seems the answer would be Yes, my Dr. says no -
Port complications may lead to Erosion
La_madam replied to Penni60's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Interesting, I had neither of the above mentioned and I had erosion. My restriction was better then it had ever been the last month prior to me finding out I was eroded. I had a 10lb loss in October 18 months post op. Found out my band was eroded in November. Dr. Ortiz thinks my erosion was caused from a stitch that he was concerned about back in April when he preformed surgery for my bowel obstruction he actually saved both my endo results from April & Nov and will present them at the conference he is attending in Feb. -
My 3 teenage boys live on it

Here is an excerpt from the Inamed handbook that is valuable to your situation With the Lap Band system in place, you should be able to eat only small ammount so the food you eat should be as healthy as possible. Do not fill your stomach pouch with :junk: food that lacks Vitamins and other important nutrients. Your meals should be high in Protein and vitamins and low in carbs. solid food is more important then liquid food or soft food. The lap Band system will have little or no effect if you only eat liquid or soft food. It passes through the stomach outlet very quickly and does not make you feel full. Here is another excerpt form the book If the adjustment (fill) results in too tight of a stomach opening you could have a hard time eating most foods, sometimes this causes people to avoid solid foods. They may drink liquid meals or soft food meals and this may result in weight gain. A band that is too tight may cause reflux symptoms and can also cause frequent vomiting and possible slippage I hope this helps

Lisa..I'm happy to hear you are home resting, I can so relate to the relief of having the band out of you once you know it is eroded. I felt the same way. Thanks for the phone calls , you know I'm here for you anytime. Call me day or night, we can fight this demon together. Much love for you P.S. You definately were not your usual spunky self when you called Wednesday night..I can attest to you being not much for words..could of been al lthe good drugs they gave you though

Today has been 1 motnh since I had my band removed and Iam happy to report I have NOT gained any weight back. I made it through Christmas and all the goodies, booze, & food with no gain. I'm using my head and still working it like a true bandster would. Just thought I'd share this good news with all of you
-
The band was not designed to only drink liquids. If you can not eat solids then you are too tight! Get a small unfill. I know being too tight can lead to slippage. Erosion I do not know if there is any relation..but not worth the risk at any rate. Having as little as .2 cc's removed can make a huge difference in being able to eat solids but still lose weight. This is not a race..it is a journey
