Opinions: My bi-polar sister wants to have my baby.
La_madam replied to Poodles's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I have a bi polar child...it is very dificult. Think long and hard about this. Bi polar is definately hereditary. My mother was bi polar. -
Anyone ever hear of Hoodia? sleep. Would love to hear others opinions on this or if any of you have tried it or heard of it. For me it is worth a try at this point. I refuse to gain this weight back !!!!

I drank alcohol and ate spicy foods my entire banding experience and lost over 100 lbs..I am proof you do not have to give up these two things. Go with your heart!
-
most likely you would not be able to eat or drink anything without it coming right back up. Relfux at night where you are choking on your own saliva However there have been others here who have had slipped bands and had zero symptoms

Why am I SOOOO COLD??
La_madam replied to waitingtiljan's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I too am always cold, it has created a problem in the bedroom, my hubby has been sleeping on thecouch for over a year now, I am always freezing and he is always wanting theair on or the window open. I was told by my PCP that it is from a number of things, one I lost over 100 lbs, less insulation...two, my blood pressure is borderline low, and threee I am anemic. I had none of these problems prior to my band , but it is all worthit to have gotten my life back once I lost all that weight. But it is a struggleeveryday, a battle with co-workers over the air conditioning, I wear a sweater or jacket all day long everyday..no matter what the temp is and I live in sunny so cal. you are not alone here with always being cold -
you situation is unusual. If you can not get down mushies. I reccomend getting yourself some isopure, it is a protein drink and it does come in a clear liquid form like water. at best you will atleastbegetting in some protein. Losing that much weight in such a short time and having no protein, you are losing lean muscle mass which we all know rapid wegiht loss and losing lean muscle mass only results in flabby loose skin. Never have I heard oflsoing 100 lbs in 2 months even with gastric bypass

My worst fear has come true.....my band has slipped
La_madam replied to KatzGirl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
sometimes a slipped band can fix itself when all the fluid is removed for a few weeks..be greatful you are not eroded like I did. There is hope though I lost my band due to erosion in Nov 2005 and I have only gained 5 lbs back, it is possible to keep your weight off. Whatever you chose I wish you the best -
Something's Wrong!!!!!!!!!!!!!
La_madam replied to jordancassandra's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I'd say it was time for an endoscopy to see if your band is OK and NO erosion. I had an endo done at 18 months post op..had erosion. Not to panic you but it has been said one of the signs of erosion is total loss of restriction, however that did not hold true in my case. I had the best restriction ever right before I was told my band had eroded..call your Dr. go and have an endo, you woe it to yourself and your band. My doc reccomends his patients to have one at 18-24 months post op. -
and you may see less weight loss if you are drinking while eating since it flushes everything thru your pouch making you hungry again quicker Not to mention it is horribly painful to drink after or during eating, I guarantee if your pouch is full and you try and drink during or right after eating, you will only do it once. OUCH! This in itself is one good reason to not drink while eating

Take it from one who almost left because of another member..don't give them or any member the satisfaction of running you off, unless of course the mods kick you off. You have every right to be here as any of us!

Your intake can be controlled if you cut out all of those carbs in the pop tarts and pizza and all of the sugar in the fruit and yogurt guaranteed! . Where is your 60 grams of Protein we bandsters are suppossed to eat on a daily basis. It is a proven fact that protein will curb your appetite and control hunger. It is also a proven fact that carbs and sugar only make you crave more carbs and sugar. Try protein for a day or two and I bet you money you will see a huge difference in your hunger. My advice to you is protein and more protein..cut out the crap food for awhile.

vomiting blood or coffee-ground like material, is a symptom of gastritis or When vomit is reddish or the color of coffee grounds, it may mean there is serious internal bleeding. The reddish color may be fresh blood and dark blood may be blood that has been digested.

I am confused, were you obese when you had the band placed in? How much weight did you lose to be considered anorexic? Never had I heard of a band patient who was anorexic. I wish you the best regardless. I lost my band due to erosion I have not had it for over a year now andI am doing great without it. I have notgained my weight back so it ispossible. I lost over 100lbs with mine

I Know this is a BIG NO! But...????
La_madam replied to 2boys2cute's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
On my post op instructions it said "NO MORE CARBONATION EVER" but every doctor is different, it has been 3 plus yrs since I had carbonation and I have not had my band since Nov 2005 it is one thing I never went back too after the loss of my band. -
Nykee read this post it has similarities to your situation , hope this helps
-
Nykee it has been said here many many times that having aslight unfill of just .2cc's will make a huge difference in being able to eat comfortable and still have restriction to still lose weight. have you thought about havingthis done. I know if you were to call Ortiz or Martinez they would most likely say you are too tight. Call Martinez and tell him the Dr. told you your band was too high see what he says. We all know that not eating does not neccesarily mean you will lose weight. Your body is probably in starvation mode since you cant keep anything down so anything you get down it holds onto it in fear it will not get any more food. The band was not designed to not be able to eat or drink comfortably. If you have to stick your finger down your throat everytime you eat something is not right, this is not normal, everytime you PB you risk slippage of your band, I know for certain if Ortiz and martinez knew this was happeningthey would tell you the same thing. Call Dr. martinez, I have his cell number, send me a PM and I will send it to you. I know for me there were times I would get tighter over time without having a fill for months. Right before my erosion I hadthe best restriction I had ever had and I had not had a fill for over a year prior to that. these bands are fickle and strange sometimes.

In need of some success stories
La_madam replied to Ryanband07's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
What you are feeling right now is totally normal. I can only speak for myself and I felt the exact same way you did post op. Give yourself some time. this is not a life sentence of no more food. I lost over 100 lbs in 18 months and I still ate the things I did pre op that I did post op. This is the great thing about the band you get to still enjoy food but just less of it is all and still lose wieght.. There is light at the end of the tunnel so hang in there. You made the right choice! You are not giving up food just the quantities of your food. -
Weight loss leads to need for a fill?
La_madam replied to Angelator's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Dont know if I agree with this theory. I lost over 100 lbs and only had 3 fills. Alot of this comes from within the individual Here is a great site about fills, sometimes it is not a fill we need but something else.. http://lapbandtransformation.com/Adjustments.htm -
Question- After Post Op but Before 1st Fill
La_madam replied to Nella337's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
any weight loss during the pre fill stage and the healing stage is a bonus. Not to worry if you gain a few of the first few pounds you lost back. It is normal..of course you will lose weight when you are on liquids and normal to gain a few lbs back once you start eating again before your fill. Dont worry about weight loss right now, focus on healing. You got a long journey ahead of you. Once you start getting yourfills things will be different, hang in there -
Where does "can't eat this after surgery" info come from?
La_madam replied to edieparks's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
This info in my opinion comes for each individual. You learn what you can and can not eat depending on your fill level. Everyone is different and Every doctor gives different post op instructions. My doctor told me no more carbonation, other doctors say it is OK. It is a learning thing. and listen to your own doctor, you chose him and paid for him so listen to him. Thats how I see it! -
A question for those who went to Mexico
La_madam replied to emmasmom60's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I used Ortiz..loved him and his staff. I had complications and every time went back to MX for them. He is the best. Where I live the hospital close to me knew nothing about the band , so when I had problems they said I had to go to the Dr. who did my surgery. Now 3 yrs later the band has made its way to my local home town. My insurance covered none of it. Make sure if you have a Dr in your area he takes patients who went to MX alot of the US docs do not take MX patients on as their own. Line up aftercare before surgery. You can email Don Mills at inamed and he will send you a list of certified Lap band Dr.'s in your area. Don.Mills@inamed.com once you get the list start calling them all, dont stop until you find one who wil ltake on MX patients. -
I know my Dr. ( Ortiz) would be concerned if I was Pbing every day for weeks or if I was pbing 1-2 times a week. I only pb'd 6 times in 18 months and lost over 100 lbs. Pbing too often is not good forthe longevity of the band, your esaphagus or your weight loss. Consult your doctor, see what hisfeeling is on PBing, I can only speak for my own Dr.'s feelings on it and if I was pbing every day he would definately want me in for a slight unfill
