Any One Up For an Exercise Challenge?
La_madam replied to live2canoe's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Penni..Im glad you are feeling better today. Somedays my port bothers me more then others. I think it has something to do with losing the wieght. I seem to feel it more then I did 64 lbs ago. Maybe thats all thats your was with the BIG wieght loss this past week that you had I'm having mine checked on Monday..I m going to Tj with my friend who is flying in from PA for her fill, I was going to get another fill but I have got major restriction goin on these days and am still losing every week but with the pains I have been having I want him to look at it under the fluoro to make sure everything is where it should be, band included. I need peace of mind. We all are such worry warts with our bands aren't we? Glad the pain is gone for you. -
Great News Vera !!! So happy for you that everything went so well. It is a relief..Fluoro is the only way to go. I know how you feel. I'm scheduled for a fill on Monday but am not getting it, Im just going to have him check my band under fluoro and make sure everything is in place where it should be. I hope this fill works out for you. ....especially so I can get all of your 14's when you hit the 12's How's Carol doing? I have not seen her here for awhile.

Veronica..your husband yelling at you is not good! The more you tell someone not to do something they are going to do it more. He neds to support you, Support from your spouse is very needed to help your journey to be successful. If my husband yelled at me for eating to much, I can tell u this..It would be the first and LAST time he would ever yell at me for eating too much! You say he yells at you for your own good..Veronica, it s not what you say that hurts..its how you say it that hurts. Your husband can still make his point to you in a very loving caring manner. You are doing a great job Veronica and do not let your husband or any one else make you think otherwise. 31 lbs is fantastic! What other wieght loss program have you tried that you lost 31 lbs in 7 months without giving up ??? Dont feel sorry for yourself..make the adjustments in your head where you think you could of done things differently and do your best to fix it this week. No one said this was going to be easy! Be proud of yourself Veronica..Im proud of you (((hugs)))

Anyone get banded that started under 200 lbs to begin with?
La_madam replied to a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
In mexico you can get banded under 200 lbs ..Most insurance companies will not pay for the band if your BMI is under 40...unless your weight is causinbg you major health problems and even then it is a fight with most insurance companies. Very few cover the lap band, but it is becoming more popular and more insurance companies are starting to cover it. Mexico will band you..there are several great doctors in Mexico who are more experienced then most US docs in doing the band surgery. -
Cheese, Almonds..balance Gold Protein Bars, Wheat crackers are a few things I snack on..I do not snack as often as I used to since this 2nd fill but those worked good prior to this fill
-
Way to go Leatha..I hope this fill works out for you. You have done such an incredible job so far..its nice to hear that your Dr. is so caring and complementive. You have a great attitude! Go Girl!

Alot of people experience emotions soon after surgery. I cried the first month..I finally figured it out. It was becasue before banding I used to eat when I was upset..since I could not eat any longer my emotions came out in true form. I'm so much better now. I do like Penni does.. I only eat when I am truly hungry..not when I think I'm hungry. There is such a big difference now! I find things to occupy my mind when I want to eat cuz I think i'm hungry..I'm enjoying my weight loss and the things I can do now because of it..so no emotional eating is going to get in the way of that!

Have Fun this weekend...be safe! You will be missed..Penni & Darcy will have to fill your shoes and keep us all laughing while you are gone!

yes it is normal to feel like this at 2 weeks plus your body went through an extra ordeal..I do not know about your Dr...but I had 1 week of full liquids after clear liquids which is basically anthing that can go thorugh a straw, then it was mushy/soft food stage for 2 weeks for me..then week 6 I was onto solids. I did zero exercise at 2 weeks ,my Dr & nutritionalist told me not to start exercising until I was eating my 60 grams of Protein and was getting in enough calories, they did not want me to burn lean muscle mass from not enough protein or pass out from not enough calories plus Iwanted to make sure I was 100% healed...I wanted my band and port to have set in place. You have plenty of time for exercise..right now it is all about healing properly. I had lightheadedness at the end of my first wek post op so I called the Dr and he told me to have a Protein shake and man what a difference that made..I was like New! Best of Luck to you..glad to hear you are doing better..

RO, your first fill was right on shecdule..most docs will not give a fill until atleast 6 weeks post op..some may do it at 4-5 weeks post op but ..I do not know of any other Dr. that would give 2 fills within a month post op. That is insane to do a fill 2 weeks post op you are hardly healed. Every Dr. is different..I'm just glad I chose the Dr. I chose. Ro, check out this site, it is all about how to tell if you are adjusted properly.. http://lapbandtransformation.com/Adjustments.htm So many people think they need a fill when in reality al lthey need is an attitude adjustment instead of a band adjustment. Me included..I have adjusted my attitude and am on track again and have canceled my fil lappointment that was scheduled for Nov 15th..I have 2cc's in my band and I'm losing 1-3 lbs a week. I'm content with that. This is not a race but a journey...Being filled too tight can cause many problems..problems I'm not willing to risk. I love my band and I want it for as long as possible, so I'm following all the rules the best I can! -
Dr. Ortiz's advice is 2 weeks clear liquids, 1 week full liquids, 2 weeks soft foods and by the 6th week you can eat solids. Unless he has changed them since April..be careful, you do not want to do damage to your band, you need to heal and let your band set in palce..any food that has to be digested before the 6 week post op can make things difficult for you, you do not want your stomach churnin & turnin while it is trying to heal the band into place, you can risk slippage this way.
-
Yes you can do it Babs! Sounds like you got your head back into it...Good for you!~ One day at a time is all we can do. Sometimes instead of a band adjustment all we need is an attitude adjustment..I gave myself one Monday morning as well..I off to ONE-DERLAND and hope to get there by next Monday! Keep uo the good work Babs you can do this!

Im fortunate to not have that problem either..back in 1998 I had reconsrtuctive surgery on my breasts and at the same time I had a lift and implants to ill in the gaps from the reconstruction and the lift..so as Im getting smaller , my boobs are looking bigger and perkier

Hey Melissa welcom home and congratulations...It does get better each and every day. I do not take liquid vitamins..I just take the flinstones chewables ..my Dr. said they were just fine and had all I needed in them. I tried the liquid and gagged but Penni has a good tasting liquid vitamin. I'm sure she will post the web site for you.

Bypass patients have a window of opportunity to lose their weight , it is like 1-2 yrs out. After that their pouch is the same size if not stretched, their body adjusts to that size pouch which is why so many of them gain some weight back. Unlike us band patients we can forever adjust our bands so if we get to goal and then feel we are gaining weight we can just go have a fill and start to lose again. DId Roseanne have the bypass or the Fobi pouch? I thought she had the FObi pouch..also Randy Jackson and Al Roker both have put some of their weight back on since their bypass surgeries. Carnie Wilson has, but I believe she is also pregnant however she had put some weight on before her pregnancy. My uncle has had the bypass and has lost 170 in 2 years. He started to put a few pounds back on, but got back on track. He eats 5-6 times a day just a little bit so his pouch does not stretch and he keeps his metabolism moving by little meals all day long..he is still losing

Paying foreign Dr. to help Dr. Spivak
La_madam replied to a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I wish I only had to pay 500.00 outof pocket!! Sounds like a deal to me. You are fortunate to have your insurance cover this procedure where as several and I mean several of us here did not have that luxury..I'm sure all of them would say too that 500 is nothing. Pay the 500, stay with this Dr. he is well liked, experienced and caring towards his patients... Is the only reason you are changing is beacause of the 500? If so, that is ridiculous to me! -
Hi Mindi I was banded by Dr. Ortiz in April 2004. Nice to see you hear. This place is a great place for support. Everyone here is like family. Congrats on the weight loss!

Im so shocked that your Dr. would give you two fills being a month post op just because you felt good and wanted them. That is insane! I wonder how many bands your Dr. has placed. Not following the rules only leads to bad things..like slippage..erosion. I'm sure you do not want either of those thing to happen to you do you? Yes every Dr. is different..but yours is the extreme..All of us here have different Dr's and not one of them would do 2 fills a month post op I can guarantee that statement!!!!!! The rules of banding were put in place for a reason...do'nt jeopardize your band. You seem to think you are invincible and your Dr's word is law..Read your Inamed handbook that he gave you at surgery, that is if he gave it to you. -
That Sucks Teresa.I'm sorry to hear this....I hope he can get it done with his fluoro..you will feel better with fluoro anyways this way you can see that everything with your band is OK, the port is in place etc..I love the fact I get my fills inder fluoro. It gives me peice of mind...Hang in there~
