Corgi, we all have felt what you are feeling, but thisis the first time I am losing weight without feeling like Iam dieting.. without weighing and measuring my foods, counting points, taking appetite suppressants, etc..it feels so good I can actually say I will not regain this weight back this time, my band is the tool I have needed! It is normal to have these fears, but I do not know of any who have not had success in one way or another with their bands, you will do great!

Most docs reccomend after a PB to stay on liquids for 24 hours, you are most likely experiencing some swelling in your esophaguss from the PB which is causing some discomfort. Try drinking some hot tea, hot liquids seem to help to relax and open you up a bit..sip slowly

Very Sensitive subject for me.....
La_madam replied to BeachBabe(soon)'s topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Beachbabe you mention these issues you have with your husband should be worked on or talked about prior to surgery...I agree 100% that it should be...this seems to be important to you or otherwise you would not have come here and poured out your heart to all of us who you barely know.. I commend you for that Did you know that some of the insurance companies who cover WLS will make the spouse of the patient go through a physchological evaluation to make sure they are ready for the changes their spouse will go through after WLS both physically and emotionally? I am in awe about what Andrieta wrote, she is so true in her words. My husband told me the thing that most attracted him to me 15 yrs ago when I was morbidly obese was my confidence. That has stuck with me for years even as I gained more and more wieght. I did not let my confidence die. I held my head high and people loved me for me, for the inside, now those same peole who loved my insides are lovin my outsides too and for those who did not acknolwedge me when I was heavy and now have time for me now because I have lost 80 lbs ..all I can do is feel sorry for how shallow they really are. You both took your wedding vows seriously Iam sure Sickness & health Better or worse til death do us part. Your husband loves you now and will love you even more especially when he starts to see how your confidence is flourishing and more so when you are getting noticed by other men Trust me -
Yes I agree with Pat. please be careful. Nutrition is so important and if you are not eating enough it will take it's toll. Not to mention dehydration. I have been there and it is not fun..I became dehydrted and malnourished according to the CBC I had done when I had esophagitis and was only on liquids. If you can not eat solids then you are too tgiht, the band was designed to be able to eat solids. Not wanting to eat solids is a patients choice, not being able to eat solids is a different matter and needs medical attention, this came from Orti'z book. If the patient wants to eat solids and every time the patient tries to eat solids, it comes back up, this is due to either a tighter fill then needed or something has triggered a swelling of the stomach wall. This can only be resolved by deflating of the band. If the restriction is too tight the band will damage the stomach lining futher and the patient will be forced on a liquid diet. More importantly this can trigger a major complication such as slippage..another excerpt form Ortiz's book Ortiz interviews Dr. Martinez Q. Most patients want a very tight fill. What is your opinion on this? A. I consider a very fine line between being correctly adjusted and too tight. If patients are eating solid food and can not tolerate even third of their former intake they aredefinately too tight. Q. Are there any risks involved in having the band too tight? A. Yes absolutely, we have seen slips develop after a band that was too tight and not loosened promptly. Please both of you be careful we all care about you both here ..yes the weight loss is great but it is not safe for your band or your body to not be able to eat solids . It is not supposed to be this way..

Blossom if you are not eating solids, you are too tight. The band is designed to be tight enough to eat solids, if you can't then you are too tight. The weight loss is great however, but you also need nutrition, when I had esophagitis and was on liquids, I had a complete blood panel doen and my results showed alot of things like anemia, dehydration, I needed more food and nutrition. I have since had another CBC and things are great! Food & nutrition are important 1 cup of Water a day is not goodeither. You do not want to get dehydrated ...a little fill may be needed .2 cc's can make the biggest difference and still give you decent restriction..

Where did my port go?? I am 4 weeks post-op..m
La_madam replied to Connorsmom's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
It could of been the swelling from around the port area that you werefeeling after surgery. I can feel mine more so when Iam standing up. Also mine is slightly lower then where my larger incision is. It also seems the more weight I have lost the more I feel my port. Iam sureit is still there..try not to worry -

If your doctor does not remove all of the air from your tubing during your first fill, this can happen...Many have experienced this. There is also a dead space in the band that needs to be filled also which does not count for saline in the actual balloon part of the band,(( I have .4 cc's in my dead space)) if your doctor does not fill that dead space, the same thing can happen. You will know if he removes the air from your tubing, trust me, it feels like you are having a heart attack and someone is squeezing your heart from the inside out...removing air from your tubing is only done once during your first fill....

I had the same pain , it felt like i had to burp all the time but could not so when I called my doc he told me it is the swelling in my diaphram , once it goes down you will be able to burp with no pain.. The band you have I believe is the band that holds 4cc's of saline, it is the same one I have

Penni any problems with reflux or heartburn? Consistent PBing? If no to both then I think you are OK ..as long as you are eating your hard proteins even if it is taking forever to do so, but if you have resorted to soft foods and liquids then maybe you are a tad too tight. Ortiz tells me if I resort to soft foods and liquids becasue I am afraid to eat solids then Iam too tight, if I have consistent reflux or heartburn then Iam a tad too tight..Luckily for me I have had neither. Yes to you other question about the weather. I think it plays a big role in it for me, and there have been women here who have gotten fills and months later became too tight and had to get an unfill Sultana is one of those women here. Could it be that this is true restriction? One of the people who had there band right after me had had 2 fills and thought he was doing greathahad lost 30lbs in 6 months and had fabulous restriction until he got his last fill with me on Jan 17th, his exact words were .." Now this is restriction" He never knew what true restriction felt like until this last fill. He has been losing the 1-3 lbs a week like you are suppossed to if following the rules..so maybe this is what is happeneing to you??

Tammy, the burping is the gas releasing most likely...be greatful you can burp. I was so swollen after surgery that burping was very painful I'm happy to hear it all went well with Dr. Ortiz I am a happy Ortiz patient myself... Congratulations to you and best of luck with your new band
