I am a lucky one not much pain..no gas pain and overall not a horrible experience. Yes, I did partake in retail therapy the very next day ...walking helped ....get up as soon as you can and keep doing laps around the hospital or at home, it is very helpful! Best of luck to you!

I am getting my surgery in November, so I am reading everything I can get my hands on. Here's my question -- how many of you out there had a good experience post op? I read the odd post that says "I hurt a bit for a day or so, but was up and around and generally feeling good by day three" or "went shopping the day after surgery" and like that. My doctor says that is how the majority of patients are, yet when I read here, I see waaaaaayyyyy more of the complications and pain patients and not so much of the went-smoothly patients.
Perhaps those of you who didn't experience much in the way of pain or discomfort just aren't posting about it --- ? Or perhaps my doctor is overly optimistic!
Just wondering how it's going to be to travel across the country so soon after

Im only about 6 - 10 lbs heavier than you, same height, BMI barely 35. Im getting the band. My goal is about 140-150. I get the same reaction from people who say "your not even that heavy" but im at the same time, people refer to me as "that heavy girl".
I love steak, am I am willing to accept the change in what I eat because it is these foods and lack of adequate exercise that keeps me at this weight. So keep that in mind. Ive also been on a diet for the last 5 months and havent really lost any weight. Ive been up and down. Hopefully the pre-diet will help you gradually adjust to the new eating lifestyle.

I just got banded on August 9, 2012 and I couldn't be happier. I have been dealing with my weight my whole entire life, and I am only 24. I have 60-70 lbs to lose. I hold my weight pretty proportionally too.
When making the decision to get the lapband, I got a whole lot of "you are too skinny to get the lapband", or "you should just be happy with yourself the way you are", or "you should just diet/exercise, surgery is too drastic", yet, when someone who is 300 lbs says that they are going to get WLS, people are always so supportive of them. It's like telling that 300 lbs person that they can have the lapband, but only until they get to 190 lbs... And then they are going to have to take it out because they wont need it for the last 60 lbs they need to lose. Ya know?
I don't really worry about it anymore, because I've made my decision and I am happy with it, but it still irks me.

Like you I wasnt a woe is me fat girl. I had a solid marriage, great job, drive a nice car... I had it all. But deep down in the back of my head there was anxiety about traveling for work because I was too fat for the airline seats, paying way to much for clothes because the size I needed would be gone if I waiting for sales, worrying about being out of breath just walking from the car to the parking lot. Sweating just going up 4 stairs.... the list goes on and on.... but I hid it so well.
Fast forward 22 months post op and I am still a hapy person. I still have a great marriage and a wonderful job.... but all the rest of it is gone... I now have almost a foot of seatbelt left over on a plane... I can sit in any chair I want without fear of it being too tight... clothes... well lets just say there are more then enough that fit on the sale racks!!! And I have my health. I will be around to enjoy my granddaughter and can even sit on the floor to play with her and not worry about needing a hoist to get me back up!!
Trust me... the future will be brighter.
