My problem as I see it is: I waited too long to eat AND I was paying attention to my children instead of my baby plate and baby spoon ( thank you very much!) My point was to warn that it hurts like hell is running through your chest even if you have a baby spoon when you don't pay attention. Lesson learned!

Does Anyone Else Have A Controlling Mother ????
MiniMi replied to ldjstonband's topic in The Gals' Room
I dealt with most of my mommy issues a few years back. I had it out with her and she admitted that she was jealous of me because I was a better mom than her, that I had it all together and she never did. I was stunned. Who is jealous of their own successful kid? Shows how much help SHE needs not me. I did not and will not tell my mom that I was banded. She couldn't handle it. As adult children of controlling parents we do not realize how much power we have. They put us in the child/parent relationship every time they become judgmental, or we allow ourselves to get put in that relationship. As soon as you refuse to be defensive and break out of feeling like you must act like we did when we were kids then we take control. My mom still is a pain but when she steps out of line she hears it. It's out of compassion for her that I will take time to explain thing to her or still even call her. Since you've already told your mom I'd suggest setting boundaries. For example, she came to the dr with you and you knew she was going to rat you out. What a better place that a dr office to teach your mom about respect. "I'm sorry mom, you cannot come in to the exam room with me. This is about me, not you." The whole staff would have been on your side with Hippa law and all. Then after your visit you could have had the dr call her in to say " tomato soup is fine". That way she knows if she wants to be a part she must behave. I'm a firm believer in we teach people how to treat us. Took me YEARS to figure out how to defend myself but damn it if it don't feel good! -
At least 8-8oz glasses a day for hydration. Popsicles , broth and Jello can count toward that just not all of it. I'd be surprised if you got half that in the first few day.

I've been on soft food since last Sunday. The good news is that soft food helps with the hunger. I have been really good about eating slow but good god it's like waves of burning and pressure in my chest.

Well really I never felt hunger cuz I was always eating. And I'm obese. Not hard to figure out at all. When we feel that new feeling called hunger it must mean we are close to death right!? I've been hungry since day one of preop and I'm friggin proud of it too, means I'm sticking to the plan. Not playing around, not whining. Not trying to outsmart the diet... Just getting on with it!

Oh and I'm 3 weeks post op with no fill. I call bull crap on my Dr who said I was wide open like as if I didn't have the band right now!!

Too bad you didn't do this research before you were banded. Maybe we wouldn't have to be reading this. Obviously this research was available to you at the time. Sorry for your bad experience BUT AGAIN YOU ARE MISSING THE POINT! Those who cry about band failure while belly up at ff restaurant have no one to blame but themselves.

I went to the same seminar in jan 2012. Dr Coirin was the one who conducted it. Very informative, very impressed. AND he banded me oct 5th. He would not be pleased to know that he was not being promoted! Dr Coates is a jerk ( according to friends who have dealt with him) dr. Coirin will take you to success. I'd tell him for sure! The dual switch has a lot of malabsorption. You have to be really dedicated to your Vitamins and nutrition. Dr Coirin also says that they usually take patients down 11 BMI points. That's the national average. Also 50% success rate in general. So you really need a mind change with the band.

October 2012 Bandsters
MiniMi replied to NYTeacher's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doc also just glued me up and sent me on my way without any strips. It was pretty cool actually. He also didn't fill the day of surgery. He said he likes to do it that way so if there are any problems he knows its not because of the fill. 21 days post op and doing great. Total lost 26.7 lbs -
Zucchini with a little chicken broth blended is good. Add a tbs of ricotta to it and make it cheesy. Canned pumpkin with cottage cheese melted. Add salt pepper and nutmeg Cauliflower 1 tbs ff cream cheese, tbs milk - makes like mashed potatoes. Roasted garlic tomato sauce and puréed spinach and ricotta. It's like lasagna filling!

You can do whatever you like. Say within your calories and get your daily totals in of protein and water. You are in a learning process with your body now. It's not fun being hungry all the time. By the way, I was really scared to move from mushy to soft foods but got the encouragement I needed. Haven't been hungry since. ( banded 10/5)

Woohoo! I know about hunger. Jello seems to help me. I don't go to fats or carbs because I don't want to be addicted to foods that brought me to where I am today. I'm strictly protein and veggies. It gets better though.
