What was the first habit you changed?
MiniMi replied to TheDuchess's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I stopped going into the kitchen when I come home in the evening. I go to my room instead, or now that it's nice I go outside and spend time in the yard with the family. Giving up foods, changing attitude, eating different, tracking EVERYTHING eaten as everyone else said is spot on but for me it was about IDENTIFYING the trigger moments that made me want to eat and changing them. All of my other decisions to change fell in place once I changed that! Btw, there are still days I sit in my room watching tv with a hot tea and pout because I can't eat... Crazy? sure! but food was/is my frenemy that gives instant gratification, sooths them stabs you in the back. Sooooo, pout I do but I'm 70 lbs down since oct!! -
Congrats! See you in the other side!!

Back to work/school after surgery?

I drink red wine on occasion. Good news for me is that it takes very very little to "relax me" 1/4 glass or so. And I can drink it slow and enjoy it better than before the band.

Any bandsters with MS?
MiniMi replied to crafty_lady1971's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think there is. I have a bad memory but I think her screen name is Mis73. -
Find a friend who hates it too but wants to move too. If it weren't for my BFF texting me or visa versa in the morning we both would NEVER exercise.

It just now hit me what I just did. So drastic! Woke up with nausea took the meds and walked around. I was so relaxed through the whole process but now I'm in a little panic mode.

The night before my surgery my husband flew out emergency to his home country because his mom got sick. I almost canceled my surgery. Instead I took the trip alone and did the best thing I ever did for me. I was surprisingly calm and it felt really good to just concentrating on doing something just for me. You will do great! Xxoo

Hiccup/Burping thing...
MiniMi replied to TaraKaye's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine sounds like a burp and a backwards quack! It kinda hurts too. This usually happens when I have put one bight in too much or if I drink too fast. -

Are you doing preop diet? I added Greek yogurt. Go for Fage or chobani because they have a lot of Protein in it and that will keep you fuller longer.

3 weeks post-op - Still hungry!
MiniMi replied to Stephaniea2412's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Talk to your surgical team. They sometimes have different thoughts than the NUT. Having said that, this is called bandsters hell. you will be hungry for a while. Embrace it! It sucks but as you get fills it gets a lot easier. -
What did you tell you family/friends?

I'm 5 months post op today and I almost forgot about the gas until I saw this thread. It is by far the worse part of this journey so far. It also it the part the the surgeons mention the least. The gas isn't in your intestines. It's what they use to blow up your abdomen so they can work on you laparoscopically. Did you know they did that? i sure didn't! The remaining gas can only be removed as it dissipates through your skin tissue. GasX never worked for me. Moving and heat did. Great news is that it will go away deepening on how much you move between 4-10 days.

I feel fatigued and ache when I am dehydrated. Only a sf Gatorade will get me out of it once I let it get that bad. Since you've ruled out with your dr almost everything else I thought I'd chime in.

Patience is the key. Also, this journey is not about losing weight right out of surgery. It's about living a healthy lifestyle. The weight comes off on its own. So my device is to get out of the way and let the band and your dr do their jobs. You will be amazed. I'm 5 months out tomorrow and I can gulp liquids, eat big bites, eat a lot of food, be hungry after 1 hr, but.... I sip, eat small bites, portion food out to 1c and 850 cal a day, and work on moving more. I've been really successful. Can't wait to feel the fill. I haven't updated my ticker yet. Last fill was feb 25. I have 7 ccs in the realize band (14cc) and I'm 212 today. (From 276) Good luck to you!
