  1. I've been following my doctor's orders to not drink at least a half hour before and after meals, but what do you think a sf popsicle is? Water, or food? Don't know if I should wait to eat one after I've had a meal. I'm also not sure about drinking my unjury protein drink. Should I wait to drink water after I have one? Thanks for your answers. Sixteen days post surgery and you all have been SO helpful!

Care And Feeding Of Lap Band Opinions

I, too, have appreciated your advice and that of others on the board Foridays. Give me tough love any day! I can take it, and it's always so helpful.
  4. Thanks everyone. It was interesting and fun to read everybody's "aha moment' story. It's funny, but a couple days ago I looked in the mirror and thought "is my face slimmer". Didn't know if it was just hopeful thinking. The next day my sister said my face looked thinner!!YES!! That'll tide me over till the next nsv.
  5. I had my lap band surgery Oct 31st, 12 days ago, and am SO happy that I made the decision to have it done. However, I feel that this is probably the hardest time to go through. I wonder how long it will be until I notice something, any little thing, like a nsv. Cause I went through the surgery, am doing the liquid, puree, and soon mushies phase, but there's no reward yet, understandably. I'd love to wake up feeling a little lighter, like maybe after being sick for a few days and the tummy feels not so full. Or having my pants feel just a teeny bit looser. I've probably lost about 8-9 lbs, and am happy if that's so. (so far, I don't plan on weighing myself, will let the doctor do that) I'm just wondering; does it take long to have that first YES! moment? I know once I get there, I'll be patient with the rest of my weight loss, because I know I'll feel better as the scale is going down. So what I want to know is, did it take long to get that feeling???
  6. Not a bad experience at all. The surgery went well, although I'm sore at the five places he went in. It feels like I have such a weight inside me, especially when I get up from a sitting or laying position. That gets better each day. It's been a little tricky getting used to what to eat, drink, and waiting half an hour before and after each. I know I'm getting too few calories right now, but I'll work on that. I really want to be a good lapband patient. Never perfect I'm sure, but I do want to follow the rules. Thanks to eveyone who has wished me well, and helped with my protien shake selections. I ordered unjury last Tuesday (four days ago) but it hasn't arrived yet. Going to check on my order tomorrow. For those who are still up, don't forget to set your clocks back an hour. Barbara
  7. Having my surgery tomrrow and waited till today to shop. Was confused about what kind of Protein shakes to buy. The dietician said to get something with less than 200 calories, 20 grams of Protein, and 15 grams total of carbohydrates or less. I ended up with Boost, but wonder if there's a better choice. Maybe I should order something online. I heard of unjury. Can anyone tell me how it tastes? I know this was probably covered before, but since the surgery seemed so far away, I didn't pay attention. Oh gosh, I'm getting nervous. Tomorrow my life will change. For the better. But...........it is a little nerve wracking. My doctor didn't require any pre diet, so hubby and I went to Chili's today. Then I ate chips for a snack later. Bad girl. Thanks for any help or suggesstions. Barbara
  8. Thanks SO much everyone!! What a help you've been. I already ordered two things of unjury, and wrote down the other Protein shake suggestions to try also. Will use the recipes given too; they sound pretty good! Guess I better get to bed. Can't believe I'll have my lapband tomorrow. Barbara
  9. That is wonderful!! Will be banded on Wednesday and love to hear stuff like this. I'd be happy to lose half that.

    Clothes

When my daughter was in high school, about 25 years ago, I lost weight and bought a pair of size 8 Calvin Klien jeans from her. Gave her $35 cause she was sick of them, or they were no longer in style. Anyway, I kept those jeans, but can't imagine fitting into them again. The last time I did was maybe 17 years ago, due to another short term diet. I'll be banded in one week, Oct 31st. Maybe I'll make fitting back into those jeans a goal. Is it possible???I can dream.

    Banded Yesterday!

Any special kind of stool softener? Right now I have gel tabs, but after surgery (one week from today) I won't be able to swallow them.
  12. Got a call yesterday to set up a date for surgery. Oct 31st! Will go in this Thursday for pre-testing. Now I know what everyone means when they say they are excited and nervous. But I'm mostly excited! Glad I don't have too long of a wait, (not counting the almost seven months I've been at this) and I feel very fortunate that my surgeon doesn't require a before diet. He said the liver isn't a problem for him. On the other hand, my weight would be down if I did the liquid diet. So, for Halloween I guess I'll go to the hospital as a fat lady for my costume, and hopefully, next year I'll look a lot different. Hope I'm posting this in the right place. Don't know what a topic tag is. Love this forem and have been reading posts every night for months. Barbara

    Social Situations

Thank you rkimom and floridays! Just having sips of anything will help me not to feel so out of place. I won't miss my occasional martini; feeling so much better by getting rid of this extra weight will be more than worth the sacrifice. Barbara

    Social Situations

Hopefully I'll be banded before the end of the year. What I'm concerned about is when my husband and I go out to dinner with our good friends, who I don't plan on telling about the band. We go out once or twice a month, but always have a cocktail first at the bar. I realize I can't drink at least a half hour before and after eating, but it will look strange if I sit there and don't have a drink in front of me, or don't sip from one I might order as a "prop". Any suggestions? Barbara
  15. Hi all, I'm kind of new here; posted twice before and love all the advice I get on this site. The surgeon turned in my paper work to insurance one week ago, so now I'm just waiting for approval. I'm SO excited, will be crushed if I'm turned down. The reason I'm writing this is to ask if anyone knows of a web site where lap band patiens relay their surgery experience. They start on the morning of their surgery, and explain step by step what happened until they are discharged from the hospital. Some write the same day, and some wait for a few days. Anyway, almost all of the stories were positive and were so encouraging to me. I stayed up one night for hours reading them, but now I can't find it anywhere. Does anyone have any knowledge of what I'm refering about? Thanks for you help. Barbara
