I went in this morning to have my 2nd fill done, under fluro. My dr was confused because as he was getting ready to inject the saline he realized i didn't have ne, or hardly had ne saline left from my first fill on march 12th. My first fill was 1.5cc's and today I was at around .5cc's. My dr injected dye into the port to look for leaks and everything looked fine. He has never had this happen before (i seem to be the poster child for oddities w/ the band) and couldn't explain what happend. Well I was sort of relieved b/c I haven't been losing hardly ne weight, so I was glad to have a reason as to what was going on. So, my dr put either 1.5cc's or 2cc's of saline in my band. Has anyone ever had this happen or heard of this happening? I'm kinda freaked out by this. Thanks all.

I guess I personally would lean more towards a "slight" fill. Like .3cc's or something. I have only had two fills, my 2nd being today. I haven't had the morning swelling or ne thing so I don't know what to tell u. I'd say talk w/ the surgeon and if you just aren't sure wait a couple of days and think about it. There is no law saying that just because u go in for a fill u have to have one. Good luck in what ever u decide.

Well first off, I AM TOTALLY JEALOUS  j/k. Good for you that you have had such a success, even after all the problems. My dr always tells me that some people may never need a fill. Just the little restriction the band itself gives maybe enough. Definitely keep your appts though because they are important to your post op care. Good luck with the rest of your journey, I hope all goes well. -
How exactly is "excess weight" figured?

Thanks alot. I feel a lot better now. It just kinda freaked me out that my surgeon was so shocked by it. Thanks again, I'll keep my fingers crossed as well.

swollen and bruised after fill?
khenry83 replied to fernandoandme's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
As far as I know it is completely normal. I just had a fill today as well and I think the bruising has a lot to do with how much poking around the dr has to do to find the port. The swelling usually goes down with in a day or two. -
HI there, my name is Kari and I am 24 yrs old. I was banded on November 3, 2006 by Dr. Carl Sunby in Madison, WI. I had some complications and was unable to get a fill until this past monday March 11th. The biggest complication was that the larger incision got infected, and I mean infected. My Dr was worried that the band had been exposed to the air because you could see all the way through to my inside (lovely i know) and if that were the case there was a possibility for internal infections and all that. It took almost 3 months of packing wet gauze into the incision and keeping it all clean for it to finally heal. Unfortunately I have a really ugly scar now but I guess it could have been much worse. I have had a really frustrating time because my Dr kept telling me not to do too much exercise especially nothing abdominal and so I haven't really lost much weight since my surgery. But like I said I finally was able to get a fill a couple of days ago, which was also fun because with all the scar tissue he couldn't feel the port so we had to schedule another appointment to try it under the xray machine, so hopefully I am on the right track now. I am happy to be apart of this website and hopefully will be able to meet some new people. Good luck to you all and take care

thank you all. i am on the road to recovery. i have been given the okay to excercise so that is going to be the big difference i think. ya know as frustrating as these last few months have been i honestly don't have any regrets in deciding to go ahead with the surgery. my process may be a little slower than most that have been banded but i am just excited to see the weight go :0)

one thing that worked for me when i got super hungry before my first fill was drinking flavored water. plain water made me want to gag but putting some crystal light or something like that really helps or even chewing gum works. i kind of am able to trick myself into thinking i am eating something since the gum is flavored. i know how frustrating it is as well, i was supposed to have my 1st fill but the dr couldn't get ahold of the port so i had to schedule ANOTHER appt. try it w/ xray. just hang in there, as previously stated we are all only human :0)

I just had my first fill this past monday march 11th. I know exactly how you feel. I was eating pretty much how I was presurgery and in the couple of days after my fill I am not as hungry and definitely am eating less. Try not to get too discouraged though, it takes time.

Hey there. I was banded nov 3rd of last year and yes I have had complications but I am hoping that everything is worth it in the end. You are the only one who knows if it is the right thing to do for you. Unfortunately, it is not as cut and dry as we'd like it to be. My process has been slow but I do know other people that have had no complications what so ever and yes lap banding is SOOOOO much safer as opposed to gastric bypass. The thing that sold me on lap band is that fact that I am only 24 and want to have kids someday and w/ the band since it is adjustable my dr can remove saline from it so that myself and the baby are getting all the nutrients we need and then after the baby the band can be filled. The down fall w/ the band is you are going to be spending a lot of time at the drs. Every 6-8 weeks i have to go back in for a fill or to see where I am at. This is only for the first year though and then I make the call as to when I need a fill. I don't know if this has helped at all but let me know if you have ?'s I'll help the best I can. Good luck in whatever decision you make.
