Glad to know that everything seems to be doing better! I will keep you and your family in my prayers. Tell Mom to get plenty of rest now and take care, as we all know pretty soon she will be praying for just an hour of rest!! -
Congatulations on your band! I live in Smyrna And Doctor Morton at Southern Hills did my surgery (He is great). I am not sure how much I have lost now, but the last time I checked I had lost around 110 lbs. I will tell you that is is very important to stay on top of those fills. Sometimes I just get lazy and start enjoying being able to eat and the weight will creep back up on you. Good Luck! Oh yeah, dont worry about getting that fill, they are not painful at all, your doctor should give you a numbing shot before the fill. Keep us posted!

Hey Julie! I have noticed that my band is tighter in the morning. But be sure that you are not coming down with any kind of stomach flu, if you think that it could be something like that then you should call your doctor immediatly to get some nausea medicine. I hope you get to feel better soon!

I'm back home from revision surgery....

Hey I am glad to hear that you are getting better! I was going to ask what symptoms you had. I had recently gotten sick with a stomach bug and my stomach swelled, doc took saline out of my band, I waited 6 weeks for swelling to go down, got a fill on Friday and I am in quite a bit of pain. The doctor did a barium swallow and everything looked good from that. Of coarse that did not show any swelling, but the liquid went down to my band and did not go any further. I guess that is how he came to the conclusion that my stomach was swollen. I was able to eat anything that I wanted without any pain before I got this fill. The feeling is not like a stuck feeling it is more like someone is poking their finger into stomach, and then the food voluntarily comes up with no problem. I am just so confused right now. -

Chantal, I hope everything is going great. Keep us updated!! Wow what a strong woman -6 kids! -
Hey guys! I hope this finds everyone doing great! I have ran into a major problem and need some advice. At the beginning of January I came down with the stomach bug. I thought that I was getting better so I decided to eat a little something for dinner. Well I ended up spending the rest of the night hugging the toilet. I woke up the next morning, Friday, and could not get any liquids down so I decided to call the doctor. His nurse told me to drink hot liquids to see if the swelling would go down on its own. I tried to do this but of course it did not work. On Saturday morning I woke up unable to swollow my own saliva (and keep it down). By that afternoon I had gotten so weak that I could barely hold my head up. My husband starts freaking out and rushes me to the emergency room. There they did a barium swallow and that showed that my pouch had completely closed up. They ended up taking my saline out of my band and sent me on my way telling me to do liquids for two weeks and then slowly progress to solid food for 4 weeks. Well all went well I was able to eat everything and the kitchen table and gained so much weight that my clothes dont fit anymore. I went for my fill Thursday and did well Thursday night. Then the next day I tried to drink some coffee and it hurt. Not the same feeling you get when you get stuck. This feels like something I have never felt, maybe like someone is pushing as hard as they can against my band. I can even feel this pain in my back with certain movements. It is very painful and now I keep getting the hic-ups. I really dont have a clue what is going on with my band. Has anyone ever experienced anything like this before? Will I ever get to get back on my weight loss journey!!??!!

Thank you everyone for your replies. I will definately be calling my doc for the Phenergan Monday for those last minute bugs that decide to pop up. I will also see what he says about all of this pain. My husband had a really good idea, he thought that since it had been so long since a fill I might have some bruising. I sure hope that's all it is. Thanks again!

The doctor does keep everything wrote down in my chart. At the beginning I was losing about .2 cc between fills, but she said that was nothing to worry about. I did have a barium swallow and that showed the placement of my band and from that everything looked fine.

That is a very good question!! But my fill doctor does not tell me what my fill is. Which really pisses me off. And this is also the reason I am trying to find another fill doctor in the Nashville area. I have asked her why she feels the way she does and she told me that the patients tend to let that determine whether or not to get a fill! I dont know if she just does me that way because I use to worry about my fill being at 4.2 cc. But the only reason I worried about that was because when I first got the band they were saying that your band can only hold up to 4 cc. I think that my fill is around 3.6cc but I am not sure.

Kimberly, That is so wierd that you say that because my aunt had cancer of her larynx(?) and had to have surgery. A few days after surgery she was awake and told everyone that she had a dream that God and Satan were fighting over her and that God won. That very night she had an annurism and died. It is comforting to know that she is in a better place now, and at the time of her death it helped with the mourning process that she had told us that dream.

I love these stories!!! I always thought that I was probably just crazy thinking that I experienced things like this. You all make me feel alot better now! Here are one of my many stories: My brother, fiance, and I were coming home one night. (I am bad about leaving the blinds open on our door ) We were all standing there unlocking the door when all three of us saw a mans figure walk across our kitchen. Of course I just freaked out and the boys ran in thinking someone was in the house. We never found anything! But a few years after that we were sitting on the deck and my fiance stood up and started staring into the kitchen window and he started freaking out saying that the man was looking back at him in the kitchen. And then at least once a week my jewelry box would be open, nothing was ever moved or taken but my mothers engagement ring was in that drawer. We have not had anything else happen since then. The only thing that I can figure is that this was right after my grandfathers death, and my parents were in the middle of the divorce when he died and they decided not to tell him and I guess this is his way of letting me know that he knew what was going on!

HELP!! PBing 1st Time Need Answers
angelatn2001 replied to dawnsunshine35's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi Dawn I know this is pretty late but I was wondering if your band has gotten better? Did you have to go the doctor? This happened to me and the doctor said that it was probably fust swolen around the band. After a couple days of liquids it did get better. Good luck! -
Congrats on your Big Day!! NO Way dont ever think that you are being selfish!! Everyone deserves to live a happy and healthier life!
-
I have never heard of anything like that!! Have you talked to your doctor about that? What do they say? I hope you get to feeling better soon! Keep us posted.

My doctor always does the fill, he does not take the needle out, then asks for the patient to sit up drink a small bottle of water and then he pulls the saline back into the surenge to make sure that there is no leak and that he did for sure get the saline into the port, and then refills the port. Next time if this happens you might want to ask him to do that. I hope that was not too confusing!?

That is so funny, i love drinking the sugar free kool aid. That is what my doctor recommended for me because i despise water. As far as the potato soup, it is usually different for everyone. Kind of like trial and error. I am not much of a cook so unfortunately i dont have any good recipes except for Campbells soup!!

That is sooooo awesome David!! Keep up the great work, you have gotten one heck of a start.

The band has definately changed my life! I would do it all over a thousand times! Something else that you might want to stock up on is childrens tylenol in the liquid form. My doctor gave me pain medicine but it made me so tired that i just used the tylenol for what little pain i did have. Good luck and be sure to keep us posted!

I did that same thing. I dont know what got a hold of me but i got too tight and noticed that i was loosing faster and i seriously got obsessed with making sure that i kept tight. Eventually my fiance caught on to what i was doing and threatened to take me to the hospital, that was all it took. My stomach eventually shrank enough to be able to eat small amounts of food. But now i seriously need a fill but dont want to miss out on eating my favorite foods in June when we go to Florida!! I think i am just all mixed up and crazy!! By the way Dr. Morton is my doctor also!!

Congratulations!!!!! You should stock up on plenty of liquids (non carbonated). Some that worked good for me were V8 juice, Crystal light, and the yogurt smoothies. Also stock up on mashed potatoes, yogurts, tomato soup or any soup that is not too chunky, and if you can handle it baby food. Get plenty of protein shakes!! This is some of the stuff that you will need. The V8 juice was awesome. I got so tired of eating things that were sweet and not filling!! Pop sicles are also good for the swelling. Good Luck and keep us posted! Angela

Mate can eat and eat and never gain
angelatn2001 replied to Sunnyone41's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hey Sunnyone!! I am in the exact situation! My fiance (of 8 yrs. !!!) can eat pretty much anything and not gain a pound. I can just watch him eat and gain all of it! I have been banded for about 1-1/2 yrs and the only problem is that sometimes i miss eating with him. Most of the foods that we enjoyed together i cant eat now. But he does take that into consideration and tries not to eat it infront of me. Most of my problem is emotional eating. I see him eating and just want to eat what he is eating. Angela -
I really dont know. When i had the surgery it was not considered outpatient. Angela
