Trying My Patience... Grrrrrr.
xX_iSLAY_All_Day_Xx replied to xX_iSLAY_All_Day_Xx's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Update: Diet Form Police I emailed the patient coordinator over the weekend to ask her why I had to start completely over, and her response was that the diet forms aren't filled out completely. To be safe, it's best to start over while I'm only 1 1/2 into the supervised diet. Her point is that it's likely that my PCP didnt document the information correctly into my chart as well. (e.g what kind of diet, how many calories, exercise & duration, behavior modifications etc.) and it will be used against me later on when submitting for approval. My diet forms have to correlate with the documentation in my patient chart. Also, in her experience, many denials from insurance came from insuffcient documentation by PCP's...especially because they aren't nutritionist or dieticians so they don't truly know what could/and or should be documented to possibly support a bariatric case. So in the end she was actually on my side. Tryna make things go smoothly...that's all. Bless her heart. -
Bmi To Low Without Comorbitities

Even tho our BMI's are what you would call " low", of course, wouldn't necessarily mean much at all. BMI is just an index designed to figure out what you should weigh approximately..they don't consider your ethnicity, genetics, body fat percentage, behaviors, deficiencies, and other things... my struggles are just as difficult as the next person maybe not as far gone tho.. and that's where we all don't want to be. I got all those co- morbiditites coming strong from both side of my family and I'm not wanting to sit and wait for it to happen. If the Lord shall bless me the opportunity to have a tool like RNY, I wont be gaining nothing worth crying about in 4 yrs...no way. We all want to be healthy... totally. -

trailblazer57 you are so right.. I think what wears my patience is the fact that I have specific days through out the year( I'm a full-time student) that I have an adequate amount of time to heal from this kind of surgery.. so if it isnt near summer break, I have to wait till christmas break.... and cycle keeps on going everytime there's a set back. I've finally got my mind together and im totally embracing the 6 month process because it's allowing me to research more about RNY and the changes that will follow surgery.... however, unnecessary stuff is not okay in my book. lol -

Girl,yes... she definately need to calm her ass down. What's poo poo about the whole situation is that she really could have said this in the beginning. I'm assuming I was the only person who had a diet form sent in that wasnt completed...? I swear, it seems as if they leave all kinds of s**t out or make stuff up just so you can screw up everything and set you back. lol I'm laughing but I am so serious. That's is ridiculous as hell. If I do that they will not like me ever again in life. lol " Start all over because you left come blanks" What the 'eff ever!! -
Any One Know About Flying After Surgery
xX_iSLAY_All_Day_Xx replied to kauaigirl808's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've heard of people doing it with heparin shots. However,my surgeon mentioned that it isn't safe to fly when your stomach isnt healed. When you fly up into the air,you will experience a difference in barometric pressure...something your new stomach may not be able to compensate/and or withstand early on.. (think about how your ears pop when you get in high altitude). Make sense? -

38.9 BMI w/ co- morbidities sounds like you are off to a good start. You only need to be 35> w/ co's to qualify! So pray about it! -
Scared And Second Guessing For First Time

I see you chose Dr. Josh Roller!! Awesome choice! I decided on Dr. John Baker in Little Rock..! I live in Southeast Arkansas so it was a given that I went with him.. I was very comfortable with his advice. He's actually a teacher/trainer in laparoscopy right here in arkansas... many bariatric surgeons from different regions come to train with him. Aside from researching him in general, I have to say that was the MAIN reason I chose him... -

Bmi After Required Dr. Visits And 15 Pound Weight Loss
xX_iSLAY_All_Day_Xx replied to Butterfly66's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Your BMI has to be 40> no-co's or 35 w/ co's at the time you summit for approval. Once you are approved they can't say nevermind to you. lol Most want you to lose weight after approval to show you are in compliance and serious about adjusting to your new life style that will soon approach. You need to find out if they will be using your highest weight before the weight lost or if you will have to complete the diet THEN submit. In my case, because I didn't have my months completed consecutively, I have to do the diet all over again and then I can submit at my consultation... and bring a BMI of 40 or I will not qualify through my insurance, period. -

:: Morning Vent :: I had my weigh-in yesterday and I told my doctor my concerns about my BMI. (thinking about the s**t is driving me nuts).Well I lost a total of 12pds and it dropped me to 40.7 from 41.9. I explained to him what the patient coordinator said, " if I am 40> by consultation i should be fine". He said " Well I can tell how much to not lose..." Thats when he came back with the "40.7". Basically if I lose 5pds. I wont qualify... he expressed this and also said that "it isn't necessarily bad to drop below either because any reduction of weight is a good thing, and if I can lose,I should go for it and avoid the potential complication that may follow RNY surgery." Although he didn't discourage me from getting the surgery, I felt like he wants me to give this 6 months an honest shot to lose weight. That's understandable! Then it hit me..., I know for a fact that the only reason I was successful losing pds. this month, or any other month, is because it was medication assisted! As soon as I stop taking them, the weight piles on with a vengeance!! I only have two more months of Rx for it and I can guarantee there will be a shift in the scale.. and not a good shift. I guess my case will resolve itself after the prescriptions stop. *shrugs shoulders* -
Someone Said To Me...
xX_iSLAY_All_Day_Xx replied to slowtogo's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Those of us who've been struggling with weight for what seems like forever are SO sensitive to the comments of others. We are used to dissecting comments and analyzing crap that people say....I kno bc I can get pissed real quick lol Whoever said that to you will never understand (unless they've been there) why that could annoy the hell out of you. "Ton" was an exaggerated way of saying you lost alot.. I imagine they said that in good faith. I also think some people are amazed by how powerful an operation of kind can truly be...Even if they don't know you actually had it. Who cares what they call it.. pounds..ton..whatever... the important thing is that you are losing and it shows. Now I would have kicked her/his ass if they said it looks like it wasn't working!! That would have been a well deserved pure a** whoopin'. Keep on truckin', sweetheart! -

My major concern lately has been about not losing appropiate weight during my 6 month diet period before consultation. My BMI is borderline (41.9)... Sooooooooo, I e-mailed my patient coordinator yesterday telling her "hey, I don't wanna be doing all this for nothing..!" Ive read over and over again that some insurance providers/medicare/medicaid want you to do the diet to get in the habit of making great choices.... Uh, I asked if that was the case for me, she says, "if your BMI isn't below 40 by consultation you should be fine. Um, okay. I don't have much of a weight loss window! o_O I'm confused..doesn't the insurance company want to see that you are getting something from the dietary intervention? If I lose as much as 15 pds. I will not be qualified for the surgery.... I guess I'm supposed to just stay where I am then. smh Anyone else borderline and baffled like me? -

I went to see my PCP today and he told me if I lose 5 pounds I'm under... so I said screw it. I'm just gonna give it an honest attempt to lose weight because I just can't sit here and make NO kind of attempt to lose weight at all. Seems weird for me because I'm constantly trying to find a formula or plan that works.. so far I've had short lived success in the majority of them. My BMI makes it all stressful so I mind as well just try..either it will work this time around or it wont. By April I will be absolutely completely without a doubt sure that my plans of action are ineffective. lol I'm tired of battling weight!!! -

BTW, my surgeon requires you to take an exam on post operative diet and potential complications.. if you miss more then two he will postpone your surgery...! WTH?!? So needless to say I have to study my own studies and how to eat after surgery.. FML! lol -

Good to know that I'm not the only one who has to do this "maintain" thing.. I thought it was kinda weird. I guess it doesn't matter if in the end you get what you are shooting for. I wont question my blessings. -

I weigh 232 now.. if I drop down to 226 at my height I will be 39.9... I'm just gonna stay active and eat right.. and hopefully maintain to keep above 40. They wont be using my highest weight at the start of the diet, they will be using the weight I am at the time I show up to consultation.. I'm sure it will work itself out. Nerve wrecking. -

So you started your diet last month..or a year ago? When are you shooting for a surgery date? And yes! I would totally go somewhere else.. you need to be complete satisfied with whom you choose to care for you. the staff makes a difference bc you will talk to them more than anything! Being border line sucks SO bad.. You would think they'd acknowledge that there are some people can lose some kind of weight but the hard part is keeping it OFF. But hey.. at least the relaxed the criteria.. there will always be someone unhappy about the requirements. -

Wow! That's nuts.. ! I was thinking that could very well be my situation until I emailed my patient coordinator.. My BMI is 41.1 AND I'm on a 6 month diet AND cannot be beneath a BMI of 40 by my consultation and pre labs. smh We need prayer.
