  1. What are or have you done to deal with stress instead of turning to food for comfort or relief? This is one thing I'm really trying to figure out before I get the sleeve.

    Streas Eater

Ah I'm on my phone and not sure how to edit the title. I mean stress eater not streas eater.

    Band or Sleeve

I had originally wanted the band when I started my research but at that time I really didn't know much about the sleeve and the idea of cutting out a good chunk of stomach scared me, it still does. When I met with my surgeon he told me about all 3 surgeries but strongly suggested the sleeve and told me that he's taken more lap bands out in the last year then has put in. The only thing is not every insurance will cover the sleeve yet. I'd say do your research and make the choice on your needs not your families.

    Liquid diet- pre op

I haven't had surgery yet but the binder my hospital gave me and the nutritionist and surgeon both said I will have to do a 3 week very low calorie diet (VLCD) of 1,000 calories before surgery.
  5. Interesting when I met with the sleep study people she told me the main reason people get refereed there was for big surgeries. She said the anesthesia slows down your breathing and body for a couple days after surgery and that's where the majority of people have died post op from WLS because they had sleep apnea that wasn't being treated. Did you have a sleep study before hand? Maybe ask them?

    Some people here are meanies

Just to speak on why there might always be duplicates postings or the same questions being asked. I know for me at least yes I can do research and maybe I have but I still need that reassurance that I'm ok and doing the right thing. Although every question I've asked I turned around and asked the medical office or support group in person the same thing. I guess lets just remember this isn't just a physical thing but a huge mental change so we can be in a delicate state. When I first started looking at the forums I thought people did sound kind of mean but after a while it seemed to get better. I agree with everyone here to just ignore it because after a while you start to see who the same people are.
  7. It's interesting because I have Pamera Blue Cross, but my work has modified what they cover to actually cover more but also have a few more things to check off. I keep getting nervous my insurance won't cover the sleeve but I called them and they do as long as its medically necessary and I cover the checklist of things to do. My advice to anyone if they have questions sometimes its best to just call your insurance. Every time I've talked to them they have been surprisingly help and nice!

    Iron?!?! Help

When you take a supplement with iron or eat something with iron try to avoid any calcium. It will cancel out the iron.

IS IT TRUE AFTER 6 MONTHS

After 6 months do you start to feel hunger or can you just eat more? I'm wondering for the future what to expect after 6 months post op.
  11. Oops I quoted the wrong post. Hehe oh well
  12. Is there a kind that taste decent? I bought some the other day to try and replace them for my gunmies but the after taste was horrible (I'm guessing from the iron)
  13. My nutritionist said they don't have iron in them so if I take the gunmies I have to take a separate iron vitamin. I am looking everywhere for a gummy with iron. I guess iron is what makes them taste bad and that's why the gunmies don't have iron in them.
  14. Ok I'm sure there is like 100 treads of 6 month supervised diet so I apologize in advance! I met with the nutritionist in the bariatric office. At that time I did not have a PCP and she said get one ASAP and requested I had 4 nutrition visits before I meet with her again (she wasn't the nicest person in the world). Right away I called a clinic that is a division of the same medical center as my bariatric center. I met with my new PCP the same day and a week later I had my first appointment with the nutritionist and PCP following. I told my PCP I needed a 6 month supervised diet and he said he would work with the nutritionist to get that taken care of. I am planning on meeting with the nutritionist 6 times, but my only fear is she isn't weighing me because she really doesn't want me to focus on the number. Also I'm only meeting with my PCP in the beginning, half way and after the 6 visits just so he can check up with me throughout. I'm still getting weighed at least once a month with all the other appointments. Does anyone know if my insurance will accept this?
  15. Awesome! Good to know I see the nutritionist at my PCP office so I'm just going to ask her to weigh me when we start our visits. Now I guess I just need to sit back about enjoy the next few months. I had my at home sleep study last night I kept waking up to get comfortable and check the wires.
  16. Update- I talked to my PCP and he reassured me that this is counting as the 6 month supervised diet. I guess the nutritionist are meeting after I meet and he is signing off on the progress and charts.
  17. Congrats!!!!!! when's the surgery date?
  18. Thanks everyone. I sent an email to my PCP last night to double check everything. I went from thinking this will fly by and that I'm not worried about when it will happen to feeling like I just want it to happen and it's taking forever.
  19. Just wondering... I'm meeting with a nutritionist that my PCP recommended and is part of the same medical center as the surgeon. Will that count as my 6 month supervised diet? I'm a little worried because she isn't weighing me and really doesn't want me to focus on the number but focus on the mental part. Between all the other appointments I have I'm weighed all the time but just nervous the nutritionist won't meet the 6 month supervised diet.

    My S(sleeve)-Day Story....

Thanks for the details of what all happened before and after surgery! Espeically detail about the pain I keep reading about pain after and I wasn't sure what type of pain (sorness like a workout or like sharp shooting pains). I hope everything keeps getting better fron here on out for you. Keep us posted
  21. Let me start off by I have not had the surgery yet and I'm not an expert. Having said that your body just went through surgery and you are in the process of recovering give your body some time. This is more than just a physical change but also a mental one. Oh... When I have surgery can you remind me of this because ill be saying the same thing.

    tomorrow is the day!

Exciting! Best of luck to the two of you! As far as soup have you tried chicken noodle soup but drain all the chunks out so it isn't as horrible tasting for the broth? I saw this tip on YouTube from someone that had a WLS. I haven't had mine yet so I can't verify if it was any good.
