I thought it was going to be an inspirational post too! Something about how the lapband helped someone to lose enough weight to literally cheat death My husbands worry, when I was describing the lapband to him, was that a stuck episode would be harmful and would somehow block me from breathing. So ya, I think it might be scarey for newbies to read that post. Hopefully they read the whole thread.

Omg That Was Painful
Shackwacky replied to ladymarshall's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You are on meat already? I had my surgery on the 7th, and just moved to soft foods -- would love to chew something I had a bout with gas -- from something I ate -- and it felt kind of like you describe. Sharp pain, followed by a dull bellyache -- went away with time and heat. It only happened the one time, but it was pretty painful. Hope its only one time for you too. -
I have barrel raced -- wait a bit longer!

Help! I'm Hungry Lol
Shackwacky replied to Krystal08's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My stomach growls a lot, even when I am not hungry. So I figured out that I can't use that as an indicator of whether to eat or I would be eating around the clock. I found that soups -- even pureed liquified watered down soups -- satisfied me more than juice and shakes and things. It was the "meal" feeling. -
I was two days clear, one week liquid, and I am just finishing up one week mushies. It's amazing how different the post op instructions are around the board huh? I had a real hungry thing going on during full liquids, but it resolved itself. Try to stay busy doing anything not in/near your kitchen -- I found that as long as I was near my fridge I really really really wanted whatever was in there. When I was out of range, I didn't even feel hungry. My first day back at work I almost forgot I had brought my protein shake and went from 8 in the morning to late afternoon sipping water and not being hungry. I walked in my kitchen and the head hunger snapped on like a light.

I am a backrest My other half rides an antique FLH. I have toyed with the idea of getting my own for years, but we have such a short season here the bean counter in me can't justify the expense of having two bikes...(sitting in the garage for 8 months out of 12)! It will be interesting this summer, I have been uncomfortable on the back in the last ten years or so --- too fat to fit and too out of shape to sit Maybe I can lose the mom jeans at the poker rallies too!

Office manager for EMS office. Mostly accounting and HR, some other stuff when things get crazy. Lots of ass time, but a great bunch to work with.

I was given chewable gravol, but never had to use it. If you can't get to your doctor, that may help in the meantime.

Shackwacky replied to dreamers's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Its been such a short time, and as of this morning I am down another pound. Honestly, I think it would be very hard in the first few weeks post op NOT to lose steadily. -

I am on pureed -- so anything I want, as long as I run it through the blender. In reality, bean Soups, Beans, peas, whirred veggies, Jello. And I have hard-food dreams. (That sounded SO kinky.) -

Yes, my mouth tastes rotten and smells like it tastes. I thought the vitamins too, but ketosis makes sense.

Hiding The Lap Band From Others And General Advice For A Newbie
Shackwacky replied to dreamers's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I am only telling my husband, and I was banded almost two weeks ago. Before I was banded, I told everyone, work - friends - family - that I was going on this outrageous portion control limited calorie diet. And I went on it, a couple of weeks before the surgery. Made a point of showing everyone how I plan to eat from now on. Seems to be working so far. -
I am on week two, pureed foods. Last night I came home from a work function....home too late, hungry, tired, not paying attention. Pulled the cauliflower puree out of the fridge and warmed it up, grabbed any old spoon and quickly shovelled in three bites. Oops. Warning number one was my eyes watering. Then hiccup hiccup hiccup hiccup hiccup hiccup....then the feeling that I was going to vomit. Made it to the bathroom, and up come the cauli. Lesson learned? Or does it take more reminders.

Afraid Of New Look After Surgery?
Shackwacky replied to ladymarshall's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
We aren't meant to be fat, so we can't be born with "fat style" heads. Seriously, your head will fit your body just perfectly even down the road when you are slender and fit. Is your friend a bit jealous? Or scared of losing her fat friend? -
Sabz, I feel your pain. I am just in my second week and am on purees. And I keep thinking I want food -- crunchy, tasty, chewy, substantial - food. I have come to the conclusion that this want is in my HEAD though, as I have a quarter cup of Soup and I feel full for ages. But oh, how to get that out of the head. I am probably not much help, since I am fighting the same demons But I promise if I have a breakthrough I will come back here and post.

If You Don't Like Getting Your Picture Taken Please Read This.

I understand. I have quite a few pictures of me standing behind my kids, hiding everything from the chin down. I am hoping to be in the picture for my daughters grad this year. Fingers crossed. -
Afraid Of New Look After Surgery?
Shackwacky replied to ladymarshall's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I already have a baggy tummy -- four ten plus pound babies, two c-sections, and a lifetime of rollercoaster weight gain and loss. Part of my drive to get my band this year is because I want to have my tummy fixed when I turn 50 (so that gives me two years to find the new me). I have to say though, I am more excited than anything else. I have only lost a few pounds so far, but I found cheekbones I had forgotten were there. Bring on the new, saggy, skinny me. I think at least she will be able to do the stairs without gasping.... -
Full Liquid Ideas

I took bean soups, and split pea soups, and like that. Add enough water to liquefy and blend well. It was good and tasted like real food. -
