Glad to know I'm not the only one. Was banded Oct 2012 and ever since I got a BAD stomach bug in May 2013.. I have had issues. They say it's not slipped just tilted (seen under CT and Fluro) but not correcting itself. I'm tired of the heartburn and throwing up so I've called to get the price for the surgery. He's just going to unbuckle and reposition my band (we hope). I just dread it cause I get sick from Anesthesia and had to be admitted after my 1st surgery. Those who this has happened to.. what is the post op period like? The same as the 1st surgery?

lauradevans replied to rbmk14's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't have stairs but did go some where soon after and was OK as well.. Getting up and down from the bed was way worse than stairs.. -

I was banded 10/24/12 and have lost just over 50lbs. I had my last fill 3 weeks ago (maybe more) under fluro for the 1st time and had great restriction. Recently in the past 3 days.. I feel sick to my stomach if I eat at night, have more reflux and lots of burping. It feels like I have a gas bubble trapped under my rib cage. Before this last fill... I would feel really restricted just after the fill and then it would feel "looser" as time went on. Is it possible that I am actually MORE restricted now and maybe have too much fill? I got sick 2 days ago but not right after I ate so I thought it was a stomach bug (work in dr office and it's a bad one going around... btw). So I wonder if I just irritated my stomach and it's swollen some? Should I try liquids for a day or two and see if it gets better? I really don't want to take any Fluid out as I like the restriction I had..

Newly banded- kind of freakin out:)
lauradevans replied to Grateful mama's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
NO... don't give up now! You have come way to far and that pain DOES go away! I know that it is hard to think of that now because you hurt. To be honest... heat didn't help me, using an ice pack helps and WALK. I would get up every few hours and walk.. even in the middle of the night. I loved going outside but if it is too cold where you live, make a path around your house and make laps inside. I did that too! I would have a twinge of pain even 4 weeks after but walking helps... it is from being put to sleep... not a result of the band. -
same here.. I eat Fajitas (shrimp, chicken or steak) ... I just get an extra plate.. and put small amount of the meat, cut it up really small, add the peppers/onions and cut them up.. then top with salsa, sourcream dot, etc... then eat that.. if still hungry . do it again and eat a little bit more. I do eat chips and salsa.. not many but I can keep anything crunchy down.. I don't do the tortilla.. and yes, I have had cheese too. I am sure I will be chastised for saying that.. but I think a treat every now and again is OK.... it hasn't hurt me.. I'm down 50lbs in 4 months... Have fun on his birthday.. just eat SLOW... and take home the leftovers... Fajitas reheat very well. I will eat on them all week at work for lunch or supper...

Question about Vomitting
lauradevans replied to bandedmarci's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I threw up for 3 days straight post op due to the anesthesia... all with my doc calling me everyday. I was readmitted on day 3 for dehydration... but doctor assured me too that band that soon after surgery was OK.. I was just swollen and the throwing up made it worse till I couldn't pass anything.. so the more ice/water sips I tried.. I threw up more. Long story short.. I agree with the others that 1 or 2 times post op you should be OK and since your doc did a Barium and checked it... he wouldn't have let you go if it had. I also have had a few stuck episodes and threw up and a stomach bug with throwing up... last check for fill under fluoroscopy . band was in place and doing it's job like a champ. I'm down 50 lbs in 4 months!!! Good luck on your journey... -
When did you have surgery and have you gotta a fill? Until I got my 2nd fill which was under fluoroscopy.. I didn't have much feel of restriction... now.. I do!

Drinking alcohol ?
lauradevans replied to SWChitown's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You will get responses here... of NO but because it's not in the "diet" plan and its' that why you got the band? But know that having a drink or two will NOT hurt your band or destroy your life. I was banded in Oct and have had a total of 3 glasses of wine.. to be honest... I get full easy and it's just not as good any more. I have not tried beer due to the carbonation.. and pre surgery... I LOVED BEER! My first time to try will be when I have my first crawfish of the season (LOL). I agree, I would count it in my calories BUT if you know on VACATION you are doing to be drinking more than normal... still eat! Don't just drink ALL your calories! Have fun and be safe! -
I use them and they are great! I bought some Buffalo Wild Wing sauce and use that with some low fat cheese and chicken... and make a Buffalo Flat bread pizza... I put mine under the broiler... SOOOO good!

What types of liquids are your drinking (other than the cranberry) I know ALL doctors and the plans are different so I'm not saying do anything off plan. But, my doc said to drink protein shakes and eat jello etc... and not to worry the 1st few days with calorie intake. He wanted us to heal 1st so we drank shakes and broth when we wanted and then around week (which we still lost weight during) 4.... and then we concentrated on the diet..

Check area for running stores.. I live in a small community but we have 2... the one I went to had me put on these flat shoes and walk on the treadmill while it videoed and analyzed my walking.. then they told me the kind of shoe I needed... they are BROOKS and they are AWESOME.... I know people love the minimalist shoes but I think if you are just starting the journey (sorry.. not sure where you are or started on weight)... heavier people need support. I felt I had NO support in the minimalist shoes. ALSO, because I went to a specialist store per se... they let me just walk and walk and walk around for a good 20 min so I could make sure they didn't just fit and feel good right when I put them on. I just thought of another resource.. if you don't know if you have a store close by.. find a gym or somewhere that may have a running club or organize marathons or 5k's and ask them if there is a store close by.. Good luck!

Surgery covered but got a bill for 4000
lauradevans replied to Daisy1244's topic in Insurance & Financing
He doesn't have to give any discount but I run a medical practice and we give self pay discounts for people who are out of network because that's really at this point what you are... self pay! If you offer to pay him up front so he could clear the balance off the books... he may be willing to give even deeper amount. I would at least ask him if he would consider accepting what the insurance would have paid if in network... or the amount of another insurance he may BE in network with. All he can say is NO... it is worth the try. -
I have to SIP... I have tried to not and it's too hard and I find I hurt and feel stuck more often when eating protein. I asked my doc and he said to SIP was OK. By that for me... I use to drink 2-3 glasses of WHATEVER, but usually COKE with my meals. Now... I always order WATER and maybe, maybe drink 2 10th of it... I have noticed though too... if I'm eating something that may SWELL... I can't drink. Now that HURTS!!!

I'm in Hattiesburg and Dr Donald is my doc! He's AWESOME! I also deal with insurance and I know tricare can reverse for lots of reasons. I'm sure you've checked all this since you decided to declare bankruptcy.... Make sure they have you right in that system not just the Humana system. Ready to change my life!

Does your doc not use lidocaine first? Mine numb the area and I don't fill a thing. He could try 100 times and if be ok? They Also make a numbing cream (emala). Ready to change my life!

Can I still ride a roller coaster?
lauradevans replied to beffy12's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Also let me tell you... there are plenty of places you can get decent food (not all burgers and chicken tenders). You can IM me if you are interested ALSO know that at any counter service you can just order a sandwich and not them combo.. Also, it you ask for ice water (not bottled) its free. If I was somewhere that didn't have a great healthy choice.. I would get a cheeseburger and eat half without the bun... or a grilled chicken sandwich no bun... I was worried about eating at Disney with the band... it was very easy.
