FEBRUARY SLEEVERS 2013....how you doing after you've been Sleeved
Johanna1955 replied to DivaNurse's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was sleeved on 2/12 and doing great as well. I'm down 56 lbs and now weighing 205 lbs. I am so close to being under 200 for the first time in 20+ years. So excited I can hardly stand it. I had purchased some size 16 shorts back in Jan for $2.00 hoping to be in them sometime this summer and they already fit. I feel sometimes like I have to pinch myself to keep realizing that this weight loss is real!! Last week I ate 6 crackers too fast and ended up with nausea and pain. First time in months. Yech it was awful for 15 minutes. Otherwise I'm good! -
Ah oh, I'll be four months out on June 12th. I better start preparing mentally!
-
Had the same problem and increasing my fluids really helped. At 4 months post-op I slacked off my liquids and continued taking my stool softener but got stopped up again. Back to pushing the fluids! In my case I know it's the high protein that is stopping me up.

Congrats! I packed everything I was told I should pack and didn't use 99% of it. As another poster said, the hospital provided everything that I needed. The only thing I was very happy I had with me was my smart phone and charger.

Saying hello I am starting my new journey
Johanna1955 replied to ppqjones's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Welcome. So happy you've decided to go with the sleeve. I think you will be pleased. I'm not a real active member but like you I like to lurk. I have a good friend who is afraid to have the sleeve so opted for the band. Wish I could have persuaded her. Her fear was being put to sleep. Hello! Haven't regretted having the sleeve for one second. Best of luck to you and looking forward to hearing about your progress. -
So excited! Weight loss rate had slowed down and was getting somewhat discouraged even though I knew I shouldn't be. I have been sticking to my diet regimen. Went about 10 days without any loss and all of a sudden I've dropped 4 lbs in 2 days! Started at 261, now am 13 lbs away from being under 200lbs for the first time in 24 years. So excited! Love my sleeve.

I'm back to my old eating habits ;-(
Johanna1955 replied to mocanitanj's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's not too late to start over again but first you need to work on why you reverted to your old eating habits or you'll find yourself in a vicious cycle of lose and gain just like before your surgery. I am 4 months post-op. I pray I don't ever begin to sample my old favorites again. Right now the thought of my prior favorites make me nauseated. I pray it stays that way. -
Would You Have Weight Loss Surgery Again?
Johanna1955 replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Yes, I would definitely have the surgery again! It's been easier than I ever imagined. My husband is a diabetic and is overweight. He was like you're crazy but was still supportive. Now he is in the process of being approved for surgery. -
No whole pills... chewables only?
Johanna1955 replied to Bree's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
There are two doctors in the practice where I go. My surgeon said only crushed pills forever, the other tells his patients they can swallow their pills once there on mushy foods. I have been swallowing my pills since the day I got home and no problems. I take three-time released pills and they still work just fine, they wouldn't be if they weren't being absorbed properly. I'm 3 months post-op. No crushed pills for me, yech..... -
FEBRUARY SLEEVERS 2013....how you doing after you've been Sleeved
Johanna1955 replied to DivaNurse's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am doing well except still not able to eat much in the way of solids. I can eat yougurt, soup, and such but when it comes down to sitting down to chicken, vegatables and a potato. The most I can get in is just a couple of bites of each. Eating is just not at all pleasurable. I'm not complaining about that part! Just wondering when I'll be able to sit down in a restaurant and eat the equivalent of a child's meal? I am basically still doing full liquids because protein drinks, yogurt, soup, diet pudding, etc are pleasurably for me to eat. -

I'm kind of nervous about my surgery, does anyone have any advice?
Johanna1955 replied to Kyrie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor would have "freaked" out had I vomited dried blood. I don't know anything about going to Mexico but I had very little pain after my surgery. -
My friend keeps calling me a "Cheater"
Johanna1955 replied to lilstyler's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
She's totally jealous. It's her problem, not yours. I'd rethink a friendship with her. Best of luck! -
2 days post-op, stomach grumbling... is it a issue?
Johanna1955 replied to Just_Kelly's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's called "grouchy pouch". I'm 7 weeks out and still have it but it gets less and less. I hear it can last up to a year but normally is gone by 4-6 months. I wish I knew what causes it. Just out of curiousity. Feels sounds and feels like gas. Not swallowing air. -
Super Nurses With Sleeves (Support Group)
Johanna1955 replied to Need-a-Sleeve's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am Joanna, I've been a nurse for 38 years, I currently work in mental health and am in graduate school getting my NP. I was sleeved on Feb 12th and have lost 29 lbs so far. I've been very pleased with everything so far. Very little pain, no vomiting, no diarrhea, a little grouchy pouch but it's getting better day by day. -
Something horrible happened last night...
Johanna1955 replied to bee13's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I think I'd go anyway. They mean well but they cannot make choices for you. You made your choice. Stick with it. They'll get over it by the time you get home. Go girl! -
Calm down! 2 lbs can be nothing more than temporary water weight gain. Wait a couple of days and it will go back down.

One month out, pain in largest incision
Johanna1955 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have been having pain in the largest incision (where stomach was removed). It is getting better with time but when I move a certain way it burns, feels like it's cramping, pulling underneath the incision. I went to my one month check-up yesterday and asked the doctor. He said there are sutures underneath the incision and they go down deep into the abdomen and that's why it feels the way it does and that with time it will disappear. I told him it wasn't anything I can't handle but just wondering why it hurts sometimes and no one else seems to be having the same issue. There are 17 of us at work who have had the surgery in the past year. Just wanted to let anyone, who is having this problem, know that this pain is normal and don't worry, nothing is wrong! -
When did your toughest weight loss plateau occur?
Johanna1955 replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I am one month out and have been the same weight for a week (dropped 18 lbs in the first 3 weeks) I also feel like my pants are getting loser, but the scale is not moving. I have decided to weigh once a week. Don't want numbers messing with my mind. -
Incision pain- is this normal?
Johanna1955 replied to bonita19's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 3 weeks out today and having the same issue. The largest incision where my stomach was removed was also the incision through which most everything was done. It was very bruised and hurt from the beginning and hurt all they way into my stomach when I got up and down and when I rolled over in bed. Then it quit for about a week. Now it's hurting again but it feels like it more just right under the incision. It starts burning for no reason. The firmness under it has gone away. It's soft and does not appear red. It's not warm to touch but it sure is painful. It times it feels like cramping and burning. I'm going to assume this is all normal healing. -
3 Weeks Out, Eat one or two bites and I'm full, When will I be able to eat more?
Johanna1955 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 3 weeks out and I'm not hungry at all. This is fine. When I do try to eat something I find I can't eat more than a bite or two and I feel full and cannot eat more. An example is those little tuna salad kits with crackers. I mix up the tuna salad, don't eat the crackers and after eating only half the tuna I have to stop. I hear a good amount for a sleever is the size of a children's meal. How long before I will be able to eat even that much? Went out to lunch with a good friend. Had a very small serving of cottage cheese and I couldn't even eat half of it. When were you able to eat more at one time? I still have the gas (grouch pouch) issue too. Phazyme does help with that. Thanks! -
Question! 1 day post op
Johanna1955 replied to jennaleigh1992's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have this gas rumbling too and it is annoying. Not sure why it occurs but I think tomorrow I'm going to try some phazyme and see if it helps. I am 2 weeks out today. It only occurs when I drink or eat, especially eat. -
I think I may have hurt myself
Johanna1955 replied to LizTex2587's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I also heaved about three times about 3 days out. I was also trying to clear my throat when it happened. No lasting effect. It did hurt at the time. If it continues to hurt contact your surgeon. Err on the side of safety. -
Hide your JP Drain?
Johanna1955 replied to Dobeigh's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had no problem concealing the drain. Wear a large comfortable shirt, pin it to the inside and you're done. BUT...I can almost 100% guarantee you that you will not be attending class two days after surgery. It's not as simple as having a part of your stomach removed, this is major surgery. Your entire digestive tract will be affected. I informed my instructors before surgery and got a weeks extension. Have someone tape or take notes for you.
