One side of your belly feel heavier than the other?
TheDuchess posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didn't really notice it these past few days, but today I noticed it a lot more, the left side of my abdomen feels "heavier" than the other side - is there an explanation for this? I'm only concerned if it means that something is wrong... -
Proud of you sister! On to the next goal!!!!

Drink something warm. Heating pad on your chest/back. Lay flat with pillows under hips and legs. Repeat! My only saving grace - I tried everything else but these 3 things helped the most. -
Almost feels to good to be true

I'm having one of those terribly hungry-losing-no-weight post op'ers - Soak it up and enjoy it, worry will only spoil something such as that :] I'm envious! -
2 weeks post op - hungry, gaining, eating the same amount as before?
TheDuchess posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey all! I know the drill (dont look at the scale during healing, focus on healing, etc etc). But I'm only 2 weeks 2 days post op, I'm hungrier than before, I'm eating as much as before (which wasn't a lot but my body gains on 1200 calories so I'm gaining weight), feeling no restriction, no pain, or full. I'm mostly fussy because before surgery I had told them that I really wanted to go without a fill for as long as possible, and then they tell me after surgery that they put a large band in me - I honest to God feel as though they did it so I would have to get fills. I have another 4 weeks before I'm allowed to get a fill. They told me that there would be an issue if I gained weight on my next appointment. Did ANYONE have this feeling at just 2 weeks after surgery? This seems insane. Did it subside after a bit? -

I guess I just thought it would take longer for this "bandster hell" to begin. Ugh! 2 weeks! Miserable. -
Any restriction with no fill?
TheDuchess replied to jdewv's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Are you on the Mush phase? If you are make sure to chew chew chew! Also, I just had to go to the doctor for a 'lump in my throat' and she told me that after a surgery like this our esophagus can begin acting up and spasming - which could explain the stuck feeling you may be having. As for restriction without fills - I think that would be heavenly! -
Living life and loving my band!!!

I dream of this! That is so awesome for you :] -
I've heard that some people get depression after having the surgery, and it hasn't helped that I lost my grandfather a week before I was banded. As I've been losing weight I can't find myself being positive about it. I was told that they determine what size of band to put in when they cut you open, and they put a large band inside of me - I can't help but feel as though I completely disagree with this decision :/ My stomach feels so much heavier, my ribs are constantly uncomfortable with a "stuck" feeling under them and I've always been flexible, sitting with my legs cross or pulled up to me, and now I'm unable to sit that way. Whenever I move/sleep/roll over I can feel it shift inside of me. One side of my stomach even hangs noticeably lower than the other. It's only been a week and now I feel like I already want it out. It's made me feel as though I don't know my own body anymore. Anyone else go through this? How long did it take for this feeling to go away?

Ugh post-op emotions!
TheDuchess replied to TheDuchess's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you every one. I'm usually a very positive - silver lining - light at the end of the tunnel - sort of person so being depressed has a major effect on me. I do feel better, but still very down. I'm hoping that once I've healed the emotional part will subside. I've tried to keep positive but it has been difficult for me as the sleeping is a huge issue, dairy gives me tonsil stones, and fake sure (basically in all sugar free things) triggers my cold sores - it's been ridiculous! For now all I can see is the negative impact it's had, once the positive outweighs the negative I'm sure I'll have a better attitude toward it. -
Please tell me i didnt just mess something up!!

I have felt this a few times! I'm 8 days post op - I believe it's the strain of the muscle/tissue that they sew around your band to hold it in place. If it continues to hurt it's likely a good idea to call your surgeon in case you tore something. -
I saw someone say in another post that we shouldn't really check the scale for the first month - I agree! 7 days banded here. If you start looking to the scale for your happiness now you'll put yourself in a mess of emotions! (I do it too, am trying hard not to let it effect me.)

Just home from the hospital...
TheDuchess replied to SJCoach's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The only thing that would relieve the gas pain for me was 1) Heat on the upper body (shoulders, chest, I used a heating blanket) 2) laying with head flat, pillows under legs and hips. It helps move the gas so it isn't as uncomfortable in the upper body area. Gas was definitely the most brutal part! -

Banded Yesterday - And the support is mind blowing!
TheDuchess posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hey all! I've been on the forums for a long while now - AND I'm finally on the other side of the band! When I was approved I took the time to write out a long message on facebook for my friends to see - I knew there would be worries, and I didn't want to repeat the story multile times, so I put it all out there! I told them of how long I've considered the lap band (since 2009) and what I've had to go through to get it, how I searched every other outlet (checking thyroid, hormones, cortisol levels, cutting certain things from the diet, having a personal trainer, etc.) before settling on this one, I then told everyone how much I needed their support in this, how I needed prayer and positive feedback and consideration if they invite us out to eat over the next few weeks. The support absolutely blew me away, with 49 likes on my status and 34 comments all from different people I was in awe of how with me in this my friends were. I am so grateful! After Surgery we received many messages, texts, and calls to see how I was doing and what they could do, if anything, for me. My neighbors brought over a get well card and huge teddy bear - lol! What sweet people! My husband took time off to stay home with me. Surgery was Wednesday and we're off today, tomorrow, and then we have the weekend to help recover. The surgery went well, the upper body gas was horrendous! I'm a lightweight when it comes to pain meds, so when they gave me the liquid hydrocodone and combined with all the burping I became nauseas and vomitted about 3 times. I now only take a small bit before I lay down to sleep. Been walking, putting heat on my back, and taking beano meltaways and gas-x strips. Today is leagues better than yesterday, mostly discomfort and slight pain. Anyway, wanted to share my story! This is just the beginning -

Since yesterday everything seemed fine, but now it looks as though I'm losing my voice! Could this be from the tube they put in your throat? It's so weird!
