Haven't spoken to a doctor yet on it, but so far, after looking at mybodygallery.com I believe I'll aim to be around 170 as I am 5'4 and I love a fuller figure. I will try for a size 12-14 pant - I'm worried I'll be losing quite a bit in my bust, which I'm already bummed over it's decerease with my weight loss thus far.

Is there a difference between Tricare Prime and TriWest? I was on Tricare Prime before and got approved without any supervised dieting - Will I have to when my husband goes active duty again?

Going to talk to the doctor about the band...
TheDuchess replied to TheDuchess's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you both :] My husband is going to be active duty again, so I've got a small time frame to get it done, and it'll be through TriCare again - It's difficult not to be nervous, because I know it's definitely what I need now. -

Merry Christmas!!!! -
I know a lot of people's number one reason for getting WLS is for health. I fully admit that mine isn't. So, I'm curious - What is your non-health related reason for wanting to get banded? --- Mine is my husband. My Husband is 6'5, gorgeous, blonde hair, blue eyes, fit, well built, military man. I want to look good in fashionable clothes, I want to be curvy and feel feminine, and feel him be able to pick me up. I want to feel comfortable chasing after little ones so that he isn't doing all the work because I'm too winded or I'm not flexible enough in jeans. I should clarify that my husband is amazing and loves and supports me no matter what my weight has been, but I can't help to feel as though I wish I were his trophy wife. Also, I don't think I'm ugly by any means, I think I'm pretty and I don't hate my body, I like it, it's looking better every day, but I want to love what I see. I'm very interested in hearing what others have to say!

I want everyone to know that I don't think any of your answers are silly. A lot of people take these simple things for granted. We all have our reasons, even if they aren't health related, or are superficial. We want what we want, we're human, I figured we might as well own up to it! Keep the answers coming! Love em!

If you've tried everything in dieting and that hasn't worked you may need to look more in to your hormones? Cortisol levels? Thyroid? I made sure to look in to all of those issues before considering WLS. Have you been able to lose weight before? I know for myself one thing that worked AMAZINGLY was intermittent fasting, which eventually showed my doctor that I my body naturally survives on a low calorie count - in turn that made me re-consider getting WLS for the sake of turning a low calorie survival into a life style. I suggest ruling out any other possible issues that could keep you from losing weight, and also finding out what speaks to your body so that it DOES lose weight - then consider the WLS.

I'm still in the process of figuring out if this is the route I truly want to go - mostly leaning toward yes. However, I had heard a list of things you should/shouldn't do once banded, one was taking asprin or advil. It can eat at your stomach? I get crippeling cramps for the first 2-3 days of my cycle and usually take ibprofen, however, sometimes that's not even strong enough. This is an aspect of getting banded that terrifies me. For example I was up at 4 am this morning with cramps so terrible I couldn't get back to sleep, and the ibprofen wasn't helping. So an hour later I was still groaning in pain. I'm curious if anyone else has extreme cramping and what you do after you've been banded to help with them?

Whoa, I think I will definitely be talking to my doctor then about using something else for my cramps if I can :/

That'd be lovely! lol and Thanks

I'm 28, and I took b/c for a bit but decided not to keep taking it, as my periods are very regular, and it didn't seem to help my cramps. I haven't had any children yet, more than likely in the next 5 years we will try but so far we're working on adopting while I work on losing weight. I certainly do want a hysterectomy though as soon as I pop a few out! lol

Woo! This is good to hear, I'll definitely speak to my doctor about it too but this makes me feel loads better. It was the last thing Ive wanted to consider before getting it - thanks loves :]

Keeping The Silence
TheDuchess replied to DesertRose80's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think I should clarify that I think there's a big difference between keeping something personal, and lying when asked about it - which was the question I posed here. I don't think keeping it to yourself is lying, or being dishonest in any way. It's YOUR business. The "look" I was talking about was the somewhat melted look some people tend to get from rapid weight loss, and that wasn't meant as any kind of insult, only that it can be a giveaway, and I was curious how people would handle being asked directly if they had the surgery. Additionally, when I said that I choose to talk about it and be open about getting it, it was in no way saying that I'm better than people who don't, or that I look down on people who choose not to be as open about it. I can choose a different way of handeling a situation without being judgemental. Mostly, in my choice I have wanted to DEFEND the idea that this is the "Easy way out". But I will also say that for some people, depending on their mentality, WLS is the easy way out, and the real victory comes when the individual has chosen to change their life style and to get help and to keep pushing forward. And I fully intend to say that to anyone who says I took the easy way out. I know it's touchy, so I'm going to add this - I'm in no way calling anyone a coward, or a liar, or say that you are being dishonest if you choose to keep your WLS to yourself. You're allowed to have privacy and to ask others to respect that. You are brave to admit you need help in your journey and in your struggle. Even if it's just to your surgeon. -
Keeping The Silence

I truly don't intend to come to this discussion being negative, so please don't take it as such. It does seem, though, that people will know that you had some aid - there is a very certain look to most (not all) who go the weight loss surgery route, be it band, sleeve, or bypass. I can't imagine not telling people, I intend to be completely open about it and very upfront, that I tried weight loss without, and it came down to this - that I'm not satisfied with my quality of life. I don't see any issue with admitting that I needed help with my problem. From my point of view people will either say it behind my back, "I bet she got surgery and just won't admit it," or I can confront it all immediately. Though I do not intend to tell many people before I get it, only after, for the same reasons listed here - I don't want to hear their opinions on it before it gets done when I've already made up my mind. I'm mostly curious - do a lot of you intend to deny it, if asked directly? -
Could also depend on if you had eaten yet, when you stopped eating yesterday, and the time of day you weighed in Sounds great though!

That's fantastic! I hope it goes well :]

Did You Experience Any Weight Gain In The First Year?
TheDuchess posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I'm considering getting banded (yay me!) But my body can be very frustrating some times, most recent example was gaining 8+ lbs in the span of 3 days (not it's not Water weight.) So it sparked the thought - I'm not sure how I'll handle GAINING weight after being banded. I'm curious if anyone gained a significant amount of weight in the first year and how much? Did you get it back off again? Thanks for any feedback! -
