That's going to vary state by state and city by city. All restaurants here either use same glass or bring a pitcher and pour the refill from it.

I know some bandsters who say they can feel foods and drinks passing through their stoma. Is that normal? Granted I'm only 3 days post-surgery, but I haven't felt anything go through.

[not so much a question as a vent] I started my pre-surgery liquid diet today. While taking my daughter to school, I realized just how big of a change this is going to be to my way of thinking. Every other billboard it seems was for fast food. Their marketing dollars were well spent, because as I saw them, I instinctively thought, "Ooh, a <insert name of burger, sandwich, chicken, etc.> sure would be good for lunch." And then I remembered I'm on liquids. And then I realized I need to be aware of these marketing messages and my conditioned responses. Only then am I going to be able to overcome the conditioning.

It's day 6 out of 14 for the pre-op diet, and this is the roughest yet. I was able to get most of one pre-made shake down, but that's all for the day. Even Water is making me gag, and I love water. I take that back. I have had a little Jello. I thought the rough part was over, but now it seems the lack of variety is really getting to me. I start gagging just at the thought of a shake, water, or any other liquid.

Started My Liquid Diet Today

I am sleeping more for that exact reason. I usually have cravings about 9:00 at night. A couple of melatonin, and I'm out at 8:30. -
Is It Normal To Be This Tired?
hubmacfan replied to hubmacfan's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know. I was eating 45 g of carbs at each meal before I started pre-op. During the week, I'm at a desk job, so I guess it's not as noticeable to me. -
Day 5 of pre op diet. We cleaned the house today, and I am exhausted. I mean I can barely move. The only thing I can think of is the really low amount of carbs I'm consuming.

I Am On My 1St Day Of Pre-Op Diet!
hubmacfan replied to kittylove32's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doc wants only liquids, and focus on low-fat and low-carb, high-protein. He allows broth and clear Soups, as long as they're just liquid, so no noodles in chicken noodle -

I realized today I haven't been drinking enough water. -
Is It Normal To Be This Tired?
hubmacfan replied to hubmacfan's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The average shake I drink has about 5 carbs, so around 15-20 grams of carbs per day. I'm diabetic, so I monitor my blood glucose, and it has been fine. -

My last post should have said "inefficient." And carolinagirl, I hope I didn't offend. it's the former biology and chemistry teacher in me coming out. -

My sister-in-law works at the surgical clinic where my surgery is being performed. She told me (actually, my wife) that the band that will be inside me has arrived at the clinic. I want to go say hi to it!

My Band Has Arrived!

I'm calling it "Benny." Seriously, it's kind of surreal to learn that a medical device that will be implanted inside you is there and waiting on you. -

I Am On My 1St Day Of Pre-Op Diet!
hubmacfan replied to kittylove32's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I recently found the Syntrax Nectar protein powder, and had it overnighted. This has been a godsend! Instead of being really thick, it's just slightly thicker than water. If you've ever had Sunny D, I would say that's a good comparison as far as consistency. -
Started My Liquid Diet Today
hubmacfan replied to hubmacfan's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just wanted to update and say that I made it and haven't caved yet. I'm having a huge problem with most Protein shakes because of the thickness. They remind me of a medicine I hated as a child and even if I like the flavor, they make me gag. I have found that chewing sugar-free gum really helps! My body just wants to chew, I suppose. -
Day 5 Pre Op And It Suckx
hubmacfan replied to takuwinds's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I too am on day 5. Day 1 was by far the worst for me. I didn't think I was going to make it. It is definitely easier if you can keep busy. My biggest recommendation to you is to not watch tv. Far too many food commercials! -

Started My Liquid Diet Today

I honestly don't think I am going to make it. I am so hungry. I will kill someone for a cheeseburger right now. I really don't think my mind is in the right place. The only things I looked forward to were eating and sleeping; they were the only times I stopped thinking about how miserable I am. -

Does anyone know of a good online source to get samples of the different meal-replacement shakes? I have my pre-band diet coming up, and I want to sample different brands/flavors before placing orders.

Yes, we have plenty of family in town. If we did not, we wouldn't have scheduled for same day. We both feel that it will be easier with the pre and post op diets if we are on the same schedule.

Complete Loser.... And Not In A Good Way
hubmacfan replied to scorrea's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I'm new here, but if I had to guess, I don't think you're eating enough. If you don't get enough calories, your body will hold onto fat because it assumes you're in a starvation situation. I haven't had my surgery yet, but I believe I've read that I will need to have six small meals a day (after the post-op diet) to get enough calories.
