Are you keeping your lap band a secret, or telling everybody?
Donna113 replied to Snowgator's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I know it's difficult to not care about what others think of us but honestly, people are generally too self absorbed to really give anyone else much more than a passing thought when you are in front of them or when they engage in mindless, idle gossip. At the end of the day, you are left with you and what you think of yourself is the only thing that really matters. So don't give others any more time or energy than they are giving you. Caring too much about what others think of us is probably one of the reasons why we are overweight. -
I don't have any restriction with my first fill either (3ccs in 8cc band) so I've scheduled another fill for 9/2. My doctor didn't say anything about any restrictions on the fill day so I specifically brought it up with the nurse and she said just take it easy today (the day of fill) and you can go back to normal food tomorrow. I guess even with fills, doctors vary in advice just as they did with the banding (post-op diet).

Dianne, I haven't heard of anyone PBing before being filled. You should definitely mention it to your doctor. If you have no restriction I don't understand why you would PB.

I thought the 50+ club was for people ages 50 or over. I didn't realize it meant those who lost 50lbs.
-
Wow! 50 lbs in 2 months! Wow! Congrats to both of you!!!!

Wow. I got 3 ccs in an 8 cc band and feel no restriction. I guess it really is true that we all have different reactions.

sept. 22 surgery date - scared - help!
Donna113 replied to Cleo's Mom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I got banded on July 16, 2008 and was terrified. I thought I might die. I had nothing to worry about, I woke up from surgery with a sore throat because of the intubation but other than that, it was basically painless and no complications. I just got my first fill yesterday (3 ccs in an 8 cc band) and still have little to no restriction so I feel perfectly normal. The thing is, we weren't "normal" to begin with where food was concerned. We got fat because we ate too much and often too much of the wrong food. The band is intended to help with portion control and to help you limit bread, pasta and rice. It will be fine. You will be very happy you did it. -
Thanks Orea! It will be great when all of us July Butterflies are in Onederland.

Well, it's the 2nd day after my first fill and I don't feel any restriction so I went ahead and scheduled my second fill for 9/2. On the positive side, I woke up this morning with a b-day present from my scale. I broke 200!

July 08 Bansters Day by Day line up list
Donna113 replied to JaJeanne's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Not sure which is the master list but since this one seems more complete, I added myself to this one. -
I personally don't know anyone who went through WLS and got divorced (still newbie) but do know of a couple of women who lost a lot of weight and within a very short time got divorced. In these instances, these were women who had been overweight most of their lives and upon getting thin, they "became their true selves" and found that their husbands were not compatible. What I saw from my vantage point was that they became intoxicated with their new bodies and wanted the freedom to pursue flirtations. Neither one of these ladies had ever thought of themselves as desirable and when they began being pursued by males, they couldn't resist that pull. In the end, they ended up divorced, remarried to new husbands, regained weight and divorced again. It seems the new husbands who married them at their smaller size didn't want to stay married to them when they returned to their bigger size.

How much have you lost July Butterfllies??
Donna113 replied to lotzasunshine's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
OK, what am I doing wrong? I've only lost 12 lbs since surgery on 7/16/08 and it seems like everyone else here has lost 20lbs+ I got my first fill today. 3ccs in an 8 cc band. When we did the barium test it went straight through so the doctor said I could probably use more but since it was my first fill he wanted me to wait a couple of weeks to see how I feel. If I have no limited restriction, then he said come back and get some more. -
I got my first fill today! Found out I had an 8cc band and Dr. Spivak gave me 3 ccs. When we did the barium test, the barium paused for what seemed like a millisecond then it shot through like a bullet. He said I probably need more but since this was my first fill, I should wait a couple of weeks to see how I do and then come back if I feel I need it. I had a protein shake for breakfast before being banded and I've had a protein shake for lunch after being banded and I'm STARVING. Since it is liquids, clearly, they are going straight through so I guess I'll have to wait until tomorrow to see what whether it's working or not. Just to be on the safe side, the nurse said I should probably just stick to soups, yogurt and cottage cheese today but that tomorrow I could go back to normal eating (but I may want to avoid chicken for a couple of days).

I'm sorry to hear about your slip Cerita. How is your doctor going to fix it? Who was/is your doctor? I notice you are also from the Houston area. My doctor is Spivak and i was banded on 7/16/08.
-
If you can tolerate soups and mushy stuff and you don't want to see any other doctor, can you just eat soup and mushy stuff until your doctor returns? I have read many threads here that throwing up will cause pouch enlargement and band slippage so you really need to avoid anything that causes you to throw up.

All are welcome. The more the merrier. Can anyone meet at 9:00 tomorrow morning at Starbucks in Kingwood? -
I agree we are all different and the volume may not matter, but we have a right to know what's in our bodies, especially what type of band and how many cc's it will hold in case another doctor has to start providing us follow up care for whatever reason. I think it is an absolute right of the patient and I'm pretty sure there must be some sort of disclosure laws that require the doctors to tell you if you ask.

Have you asked about using a different kind of fill? I spoke with someone who's been banded for a year now and she told me that she never got any kind of restriction on the saline fills so they started using another type of fill (can't remember what it was called) and she said that worked great.

How about this Sunday at the Starbucks in Kingwood at 9:00 am? The one located closest to the front entrance of Kingwood. It's actual address is 2515 Green Oak Dr. and it's number is 281-359-8975.
