What's good for WLS patients isn't necessarily what's good for the rest of the population. Keep in mind WLS patients have limited amounts of food they can intake (or it should be limited) whereas, those that have normal stomaches can still eat huge amounts of food. Eating the low cal, high volume, high fiber foods is a way to "fill" up on the lowest amount of calories so that they can feel satiety. I just don't think one can compare WLS patients' diets to the rest of the population.

I don't want a WLS person to be on the show. WLS is supposed to be the last option after one has tried "dieting" and exercising and failed again and again and/or succeeded only to gain it back again. As many of the contestants on that show can attest, they've regained weight after losing it on the show. WLS and BL don't mix and it sends out very confusing messages to those who don't understand what WLS is supposed to be about.

Mac - I agree. I could never do it. 1. I could never put myself on national TV in the outfits they make you wear at weigh in. 2. I'm way too much of a rebel to follow their rules and be cut off from the rest of the my life (much less the rest of the world). 3. Believe it or not, I'm a very private person and to have cameras follow me around every minute of the day to record my every mood, thought or action would cause me to go postal on the camera people.

I love shopping for clothes when I don't hate my body. Yep, you were well past time for new clothes. I was at that point at my heaviest because I refused to waste money on fat clothes I hated. I had 3 different outfits I wore all the time. Now I have several "new" outfits I can wear again!
-
NSV Alert: I went shopping in my closet this morning and was able to fit into several outifits I haven't been able to fit into in well over 2 years. Great outfits I love!

Tina, I know it's hard to watch the man who is the father of your children and your husband of many years in pain, but remember, he brought this on himself and you owe him no sympathy. You're not rubbing it in his face; just trying to move on to your new future. As for surgery - remember, worry is going to do you no good. You are fortunate in that you have your parents next door to help you. If you can't afford a visiting nurse or have someone stay with you, then may I suggest you get a strong signal baby monitor and have it in your bedroom and your parents bedroom? You can turn it on and off as you need to use it.

How old is she? Her body looks 20 something but her face looks closer to 50. Facelift time! Really? I don't think you're anywhere near big enough to get picked. There's something about that purple daughter that's always rubbed me the wrong way from day one. Can't stand her. Bob - you're such a pu$$y. Yucky daddy, just go away.
-
Yep, a definite keeper. That must have been shocking and upsetting. But on the plus side, she owes you one now. I hope your fill goes well. She's gross! PJTP: I went shopping in my closet today and fit into several things I haven't been able to wear in well over 2 years. Yay!

Nasty daddy should have gone home weeks ago. He's a drag on whoever's team he's on and I HATE, HATE, HATE watching when he weighs in because it gags me. What I hate even more is that he's the image people will now associate with WLS.

Was that your family on the cover? I ask because I didn't see a goatee on the man. I did see an '80s 5 o'clock shadow. It's a beautiful family pic.

WTG Ceradad. Will you be sure to scan pics/articles and if there are links, post them as well? I'm still very curious about the other news so I'm hoping to hear about it soon.

You guys are all gross!

Sms - do you work in a regular ward or do you work in a nursing home?

WTH??? I hate it when shows do crap like that! Even though Tara may be a bit too much [fill in the blank], she's still one of my favorites. She reminds me of a salesperson at work who everyone loves to hate. She also kicks everyone's ass when it comes to meeting quotas. When I see Tara, I think of Linda. I'm not particularly fond of Linda, but I do respect her kick ass first and take names later attitude.

Plain - That's why I love my doc, because he wants his patients to live their life with the band, not for their band. Right now I can also eat anything I want and I want to keep it that way. I just want the band's help to stop me before I go overboard. At 5' and 3/4 inches, I don't have much room to overdo anything. I've come to the conclusion that there's no way I'm going to be able to get all the protein and nutrients I need through food so I will have to supplement. I did do some protein bullets from time to time and am thinking I'm going to go back to them again. Susan (((hugs))), I'm thrilled for you that you are able to get the sleeve and am in no way judging you or blaming you for your band problems. That's why I freaked out when you said you had problems with the band. I asked my doc those statisical questions because if someone like you has these problems then it's clearly not the fault of the user. There seems to be so many that have problems that I allowed myself to panic and needed my doc's assurances. Since it made me feel better, I shared what he said to assuage others on here who may also be having those same moments of panic that the band will not work for them either. I'm sorry if I made you feel I was in any way insinuating you did something wrong. You're one of my favorite LBTers and I'm kicking myself right now for giving you even a moment of discomfort. Awww LJM, I'm sorry. Thank goodness you have your gorgeous son to distract you from the pain.

I used to wolf my food down, too before I got banded. When I was first banded, I quit eating after 20 minutes no matter what (that's what the band bible said to do). Now, I finish the portions I've served myself and sometimes it takes me 40 minutes to eat what I used to be able wolf down in 10. That's one way the band helps us all, I think. It takes us back to the basics and the proper way to chew and eat.

I'm back from my fill appointment. The doc didn't want to give me a fill today. He said that since I lost some weight even after he took out the .5 cc, he didn't feel I needed it. I told him 1 1/2 lb in 4 weeks does not constitute weight loss in my book and I needed just a little tweak. He said fine, but not before we do an x-ray to see my flow. So he took me to the x-ray room and said he liked the flow but would give me .3 since I felt I could handle it. He said he wanted his patients to have good quality of life and not be battling the band all the time. He told me if I had any problems come right back and he'll tweak it back out again. He's a sweetie. On a related note, I asked my doc today how many of his long term patients have problems with the band and he said he's done over 4,000 bands and very few have problems. He says he's been doing the band for over 10 years and he still keeps track of many of them. I told him I was concerned because I read so many long term bandsters experiencing erosions, slips, scarring, etc. and he said that depends on the patients, their doctors and how much aftercare they receive. If a bandster is experiencing reflux or PBing, they should immediately go to their doctor and get it taken care of, it's when it's left too long that those problems arise. He also cautioned me against giving too much weight to those that post of their problems because he said the vast majority of bandsters do not have problems and if they are happy with the band and doing well, they tend to move on with their lives and not frequent weight loss forums. He said, as in every other facet of life, one is more likely to hear from unhappy, disgruntled people than those who are satisfied. That made me feel better and helped me put it into better perspective.

I think that's why many supplement with extra protein. I tried to avoid it because my doc is very against it, but I really think I need to do it because my nails which have always been very strong are now getting brittle and breaking easily. My hair is also falling out. I had very thick hair so it still looks fine but at the rate it's falling out, I'm afraid I'll be bald before I reach goal so I really think I need to start supplementing.

I never had the "full" feeling in the first 3-4 months. It's only once I started getting true restriction that I've experienced the pre-band "full" feeling. I hope it will come to you, too. From reading some of the posts on LBT, it seems some never experience it, even those who've achieved goal and maintained it for over a year. We're all different so it only makes sense the band treats us differently. Thank you for going there. I was wondering if I was the only one who noticed. Prior to getting banded, I didn't hang around very many who are MO and so I never gave it much thought but now that I'm banded and see all these postings on the LBT site, I've been overwhelmed and disgusted at the number of whiners who feel the universe is out to get them, including their band doctors, nurses and other bandees. I, myself, am just paranoid and believe there are conspiracies everywhere -- but just because I'm paranoid doesn't mean they aren't out to get me. he he
