Hair loss!!!!!!!!need help!!!!!
Donna113 replied to JerseyGirl2u's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Are you also taking a multi-vitamin as well as additional calcium chews? -
Dr. Schulman, if a person gets TT will the skin be less resilient? Example, if a person within 30 lbs of goal gets a TT and then loses more weight after the TT, will there be loose skin requiring yet another TT?

To be free, I don't think most doctors will refuse to give you a fill if you haven't lost weight. In fact, I've heard that if you have good weight loss, the doctors don't want to give you a fill because they don't want you to get too tight. It seems the doctor mentioned above is a bit of a judgmental guy and maybe in the wrong specialty.

Heather, I think that's the key -- do and say what feels most comfortable and right for you. You've accomplished a lot and you are so close to your goal, you should feel very good about yourself!

Hi Boos. It'll be 6 weeks post-op for me tomorrow. I think that until we get our fills and get some good restriciton, it will be a struggle to avoid resorting back to old habits. If you have not started exercising, then you may want to start because it really helps keep you motivated to avoid overeating and bad food choices. You may not see much weight difference in the first couple of weeks of exercising, you might even gain a lb or 2 (I usually do in the first couple of weeks of any exercise program) but keep going because after the first couple of weeks, the weight starts to drop.

ABSOLUTELY intentional.

In my experience, sex only relationships were rarely sex only relationships, they were dating relationships without defined commitments and at times I dated more than one guy at a time. If I started feeling stronger about one or the other, then I'd break it off with the other guy. Sometimes the guys I dated knew I was dating others and sometimes they didn't. I guess what I'm trying to say here is what everyone else is saying, do what feels right and give yourself permission to feel OK about dating more than one guy at a time (including more than one sexual partner at a time [protected sex, obviously]).

Why is fooling around with 2 guys at the same time wrong if you are not in a committed relationship with anyone? Why not play the field until you hump into the one that suits you best? I say what's good for the gander is also good for the goose. I'm happily married now but after my previous marriage ended and prior to this one, I played the field quite a bit and it really helped me to clarify for me what I needed in a man to be able to commit to him for the rest of my life. As soon as I realized it, my husband seem to materialize out of thin air and we got married one week after meeting and are still very happily married 9 years later.

I found the following on Texas Lap Band Talk at this link: Texas Lap Band Talk: Lap Band fills. There is also a phenomenon we see fairly often, but really can’t explain well. Some people will have a delay in the “tightness” of a fill by as much as two weeks. This is why we won’t fill one day and then fill again three days later. Because there is sometimes a lag in the perception of hunger after a fill (and remember: it’s hunger control we’re aiming for, not bulimia!), we don’t want to end up over-filling patients, especially if they live out of town. Spitting into a cup is just not fun. You're meant to have gradual weight loss with the Lap Band from eating less. You're not meant to be on a liquid diet or pureed food diet. We want to eat more or less a regular diet, just eat a smaller amount of food so that you can lose weight.

Great advice Nancy. It took me 3 tries to find the right husband but at least I didn't waste too much time on the first 2 husbands. As with some shoes and purses, sometimes, it takes a bit of using before we realize we made the wrong choice.

How much have you lost July Butterfllies??
Donna113 replied to lotzasunshine's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I wish I was as relaxed about weight loss as you... it's driving me nuts that my weight loss has pretty much stalled since the first couple of weeks post surgery. Tomorrow will be 6 weeks since banding and I've only managed to lose between 11 - 14 lbs depending on which day I step on the scale. -
Sometimes I think people get married or stay married to people they've "settled" on because they had low self esteem and felt it was the best they could do. I think having the surgery and losing a lot of weight when they thought they could never accomplish something like that gives them the strength to take on other issues they thought they couldn't handle, e.g, getting better job, going back to school, leaving a spouse they no longer love.

with NO insurance, what does this thing actually cost???

jmegirl, congratulations! -
Joiful, I don't think even with the "restriction" I "feel" now, it's nearly enough since I don't feel it unless I've eaten about 1 1/2 to 2 cups of food which is WAY more than recommended. I think ideally they want us to eat only 1/2 cup of food at a time so I definitely need another fill. I'm looking forward to next Tuesday's fill. Since it is labor day weekend and we may be going out of town, I'm OK with being able to eat more than is recommended.

Ditto everyone's story here. Surgery and released as soon as I used the bathroom (about 1 hour after surgery). I hate hospitals so I was thrilled that I could go home to the comfort of my own bed and couch.

How (if at all) do you tell a new guy about your band?
Donna113 replied to AmIDoneYet's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Cota, did the band have anything to do with your divorce? -
I got my first fill last Tuesday and felt no restriction or so I thought. I have noticed in the past couple of days something resembling restriction (meaning my band would feel a bit tight). Anyway, tonight I felt my band work at dinner. I still had a few bites left on my plate when I felt my band tighten up a bit, nothing painful or uncomfortable and not a "stuck" feeling, just a bit of pressure. So I stopped eating and it's been 1 1/2 hours and I'm still feeling quite full if not fuller. It was about 1 1/2 cups of food but in the pre-band days I could have easily eaten double that amount and then 1/2 hour later started snacking until I went to bed. I'm not even the least bit tempted by any kind of snack now. I do have another fill scheduled for next Tuesday and I plan on getting it but this makes me real hopeful that the next fill will be the right amount for a while.

Urgh! I just typed up a long post about restriction and amy screen did a flip or something and now it's gone! Urgh!!!

Has anyone else's weight loss stalled? Mine seems to have stalled. I'm doing C25k, water aerobics every other day, getting in my liquids, adding protein, trying to keep my calories between 800-1200 and really, since my initial weight loss the 1st week of surgery, the net loss has been minimal. I'm starting to get a bit discouraged.

Congrats!!!! :smile2::thumbup:

Remember the band is just a tool so it's not a magic bullet. It's not going to lose the weight for you so delaying it by a couple of days isn't really doing you any harm. In fact, you will probably lose more weight on your pre-op diet than you will post-op and before your first fill which can be between 4-6 weeks depending on your doctor. The more you lose before the surgery, the better off you are so look at this as an opportunity to lose a bit more before your surgery.

I've been looking for a WiiFit but they're always sold out. Where are you picking yours up?
-
I don't get this delayed drinking before and excessive delay drinking afterwards. How are you supposed to get in all your liquids? I have no drinking restriction prior to eating and recommended waiting 15-30 minutes after eating. I usually wait 30 minutes. I couldn't deal with 2 hours. It seems that most on here say 45 minutes to 1 hour afterwards. This is the first time I've seen 2 hours. You should double check and ask your doctor why you have to wait 2 hours.

I chose Dr. Spivak. He also performs surgeries at True Results Center but I went to him directly rather than through True Results. Sounds like the pricing is the same. He also performs surgeries in San Antonio as well but is based in Houston. Houston is hot and humid this time of year so pick an indoor activity. I am married with children without reliable babysitters so my DH and I don't get out much by ourselves. We all do love to shop and take short day trips so we generally drive around "exploring".
