Tired of People Saying: "You Really Don't Look Lika You Need That!!"
Sooverit! replied to ncarreras's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can completely relate to your post. I heard...I don't think you qualify for that, you're just big! That (bariatric surgery) is not for people like you, you're very overweight but not that bad, well I say screw them too! I got the surgery and you know what...I don't walk around obessessed about being an overweight out of control person any longer. I am totally at ease with who I am now. Have I lost as much as I should after 8 months ...no ...but it was just enough to make me feel okay about myself. Was it easy? NO NO NO....I vomit, I get sick...I used to have an Iron stomach and maybe that was the problem. If you are totally committed to lving life as a healthy thin(ner) person you will take the punishment. It is not easy. I am not a compliant person so having my body change without my mind there can be a challenge but the body rules and your mind will follow ...it has no choice. All the best to you! Do bands suddently get tighter out of nowhere?
Sooverit! replied to a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I was just about to get an un-fill after about 2 weeks post time of Month. Instead someone here suggested to go on liquids for a day or two. I did and zap the band feels much looser now. It must have been swollen and never went down. I am eating too much right now and gained 5 lbs from that time but I will get on track tomorrow. -
Hi Restless You and right and thank you for the good advice I am starting to get very worried and I made an appt. I guess I'm resisting because I don't want to go back to being hungry all the time. I have however gone on liquids all day yesterday and plan on doing it today as well. I don't think I gave my band a chance to heal and the swelling to subside. I'm not a very compliant person....way too much strict upbringing in school and home. I will see what 2-3 days of liquids do for me. Also when you are very tight you get stuck on healthy foods which could lead to going for the sliders like ice cream:scared2::wink:

Do bands suddently get tighter out of nowhere?
Sooverit! replied to a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hey Angie, I forgot how tough it is to only do liquids! Yikes...I am getting hungry but I told my family fend for yourself tonight I'm on liquids. It makes sense to let the swelling go down! I can't believe that I got so lucky after the 3rd fill the band worked like it was supposed to. I don't know if I was really ready for it to work though, as I love to overeat ...it is a real eye opener to feel full after a cup of food! It's good though how we ease into it though. If Ihad this restriction from the beginning it would have been too much to handle. Why do you think you need a 4th? I feel like I wish I were less restricted so I can eat more salads, etc. -

Good advice Angie, I was about to call my doc for an un fill but it didn't dawn on me that I am compounding my problem. It started with my TOM then snow balled from there and I have not been doing the liquids after I get stuck. I am going to do liquids for the next few days and see what happens...thanks -
A gastric band is one of the most dangerous and painful operations you can have.
Sooverit! replied to elcee's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
You should write her that actually the most dangerous and COMMON operations are C-sections! -
Slipped band, what does it feel like.
Sooverit! replied to karibensea's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The pain is gas bubble most likely. I get that when I eat something that is known to be "gassy". I asked my Doctor what a SLIP feels like and she said that one of the first symptom would be that you can not swallow. You become MUCH tighter and can't get anything down such as Water etc. This is an emergency situation I would imagine because you can get dehydrated rather quickly. From what you describe you are fine especially since you only had one fill..and you are not experiencing food getting stuck or coming back up....good for you. I am on my 3rd and thinking I could use a tiny unfill as I get stuck almost every day. but the weight loss is good. . -
I'm getting stuck almost every day. I should get an un fill but thinking it's me.

Pay for the band! Poll!
Sooverit! replied to princess_n_thep's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Yeah I paid about 15,000 on a low BMI study and I only lost 35 - 40 lbs so far (banded in Dec 08) but I too think it was worth every penny. Turning 50 and being 25 lbs healthier than I was only a few months ago was very worth it and to be free of my food addiction is liberating. I used to :thumbup:I never thought anything would free me from the cycle. I am grateful for the Lap band. It is not easy tho....I do get stuck...have to throw up...but I will learn the right thing to do in stages. All the best to everyone who needs this gift! mar -
Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot
Sooverit! replied to IndioGirl55's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My PA told me that tissue forms around the band causing it to be fairly securely set into the stomach. Don't worry about stuff it causes the band to get tighter! -

Octillo....thanks for sharing the story of your 53 yr old friend who finished up her nursing studies! This is just what I needed to hear. My grandmother was a nurse and I just always had the calling but never followed through on it. I'm 50 and want to start to get my LPN license but I keep talking my self out of it thinking I'm being crazy ...but then I did the same thing when I thought about getting the Lap Band and it's one of the best decisions I've ever made! Finally free of my food addiction....now onward ho... -
This is a very good idea this site. meat is always tricky for me but everything else depends on when and how I eat it. If I'm stressed and not paying attention to what I'm eating ....OUCH. Broccholi is not accepted by my band and I used to lOVE it...beleive it or not. Also wet spinach...get's stuck every time. Baked Potato chips pretzels Breaded chicken Corn on cob eaten too fast Soft bread as on a wrap Toasted from Panera okay as long as eaten slowly and only 1 half Salmon ...even soft when eaten alone...tolerated better when mixed with a soft stuffing believe it or not! Nuts when more than a handful is eaten (This is after 3rd fill) (sweet spot) :-)

It's getting close!! I remember that excitement it's great. I was also emotional right before because I was in and out of doctor's offices and hosptitals ...it reminded me of when my mother was sick...ehh gad did I have a melt day a few days before surgery. It was just pent up emotions ...good I finally let it out and the nurses didn't put me in the phycho wing!:@IJ -
I love this bandiva....I feel this way but couldn't word it better. It's funny how goals change. My original goal was to get to the weight I was in my early 30s. I am only half way there but I feel as you do. I had a victory today which meant more to me than any number on the scale could. Went bike riding with DH...dragged him to a park we've never been to. He jogged and I rode. I was able to stand on the pedals and go for miles. I have to say it wasn't bad for a 50 year old. Most people now think I'm younger than I really am and I feel it now thanks to the Lap Band.

Pain in lower left abdomen! Very Nervous!!
Sooverit! replied to isaviolinist's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
violinist....(how nice!) Ask your medical person to show you where you stomach is with a stomach model. I was surprised to learn it was so high ..up near my breasts - no where near the lower left side. When I have pain here it's usually that I am ovulating and time for TOM soon but have it checked out. -

Did this ever hit a nerve with me...my husband is the same exact way too!? We should start a support group. My husband thinks and lectures about how I need to stay disciplined and exercise like he does. !. he's never been pregnanant, menopausal, pre menstrual, chocoholic, or just the fatter sex! Lighten up buddy...it's easier for you!!!!!!!!!!! -

Hi RESTLESS MONKEY: If you don't mind me asking I noted under your name it says "new Nurse" does this mean you recently became a registered nurse? Just turned 50 and looking for career change into health care related positions. Not letting age stop me this time...I've done that decades ago! You're as old as you feel and I still feel young...no younger since the LB! -

I'm amazed by the way at how many people I did tell...mainly professionals and people I dont know well...who have no idea what it is and it's too long to explain it is someone hasn't a clue as to what it is. they just won't understand! You've got support already. You Dh will see you losing weight and not eating as much and may think you are sick if you don't tell him. It's just going to be easier on YOU than covering it up. You don't need any stress this is a major life change and in my opinion a pretty major operation. Do what you feel is the best wehn you are in a good mood and relaxed. Make sure he's in a good mood when you tell him.! -

Finally....Restriction - But New Challenges....
Sooverit! replied to Mamacita2008's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Also ...after my 3rd fill I can definely say my appetite has totally dimmed. I just don't get that "have to eat or I'll die" feeling at all, before.. well you know. That is liberating!! I have so much more time to do the things that really have meaning in my life now...instead of always thinking of food! However I have to start eating on a regular planned out way. I was never a big "Meal" eater and it's not going to happen over night. Patience is in order now. Be gentle on yourself....you are getting healthier by the day. Watch your protein and iron tho. I have to take iron supplements now. I make sure I get protein in yogurt form now for sure. keep working it out...
