I agree personally with this list except for popcorn and nuts ..2 foods that are "slider" food for me. I would add to the top of the list Salmon and chicken. I never realized how much chicken we Americans eat until I couldn't eat it. I should add that I can manage a liitle dark meat chicken. Sadly salmon gets stuck all the time and it's supposedly a super food ..however smoked salmon as in Lox goes down easily. Fickle fussy band I have which helped me lose 50lbs!

It's lookin' like a CigNO
Sooverit! replied to krasc001's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ha ha I love that Cigno.....i was a in a Cigno place a few years ago...no matter what hoops I jumped through or rules I followed they weren't budging on covering the band. They never did but I found a low BMI study I was a 35 BMI and it was discounted. whew...I would be very overweight now! After 50 lbs. lost on the band I can say I like CIGNA again. They have covered every single proceedure I've had since then and are considered the darling of insurance companies by the docs. go figure! -
I'm contemplating an in fill so I can eat more veggies salads etc. I'm worried about doing this right before our winters here. I am grateful beyond words for the 45-50 lbs I lost at the beginning of the fat decade( 50s). I can exercise better than I ever had bit when I'm not exercising I am really feeling week and tired, Wish I knew if it was age, hormones or my poor diet of late. I'll report my progress...

How to be a success with my band?
Sooverit! replied to Amanda1982's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The most important thing (I'm going on 3 years this Dec.) was to listen and trust what my body was telling me. This means getting the right amount of fills. It took 4 and now I'm just right ...the 3rd fill was too tight ..I was getting stuck and vomiting quite a bit. Don't be stubborn like me I suffered and didn't need to. I was afraid I would gain weight if I got an unfill. Unfill is no big deal and the doc only takes out a miniscule amount...but it made a huge diff.. I lost weight after the infill. So getting to the right fill spot where you are not plagued by hunger but still feel like you can eat fiber foods like veggies ect without getting stuck.(sick) is key. Also exercise ---.you need to do it daily or almost daily. I do yoga, walking and cycling love it and it helped me tremendously. Best, mar -
Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot
Sooverit! replied to IndioGirl55's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Aliengirl...it took me 4 fills to get it just right. The 3rd fill was too tight 4th fill a charm and I lost 10 lbs even after a year out. Listen to your body..if you are hungry like you used to be or close to it pre banded than your not tight enough. I am hungry about every ( hours now and I can't eat certain foods and I also can't binge eat like I used to except with ice cream. That's a true "slider" food and I only allow myself it 2-3 x a month if I can hold out. I love my band and love how I'm not gaining in the winter like I used to. We'll see this year still have to do yoga and rxcercise almost daily! Best Mar -

Poll: How many fills did it take you to find your "sweet" spot
Sooverit! replied to Sooverit!'s topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
For me it was 3. The second was too tight! If I can pass on any knowledge if this thing after 3 years I would day do not suffer with an over filled band! I was sick every other day and when I got a slight infill it really did the trick Snd no I didn't gain weight I lost after the unfil. I love being free of uncontrollable hunger I just isn't there any longer. Cravings for b&j yogurt ...there still there but that's it! It's amazing ! B -
Poll: How many fills did it take you to find your "sweet" spot
Sooverit! posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm hoping I will be taken to the poll link but not sure so I will ask everyone who is willing to answer: How many fills did it take you to get to the point where you had good restriction. Meaning you got the full signal after eating a "bandster" size portion and you began to lose weight consistently? -
Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot
Sooverit! replied to IndioGirl55's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
PB to me means acid relux...don't know if I ever really had a PB ...I've gotten stuck and vomited that's for sure. I had an unfil yesterday and I know now I was too tight! I feel just right again...this does change though and I've got to admit when I'm too tight...admitting this means I am vomiting and getting refux period. -

You look great too Ifyoursom...I have to agree...I do feel better in my body and I cant forget that. I am healthier at 51 I know without my band I would feel much older. I tried on all my clothes today from last spring and I can't belive how much smaller I am - only a size or two but I do feel younger than I did a few years ago. The band gave me my body back now it's up me to get my head back on straight too...ugg not as easy! ; -
How do I know if my band has slipped?
Sooverit! replied to paisleypea's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thank you...I like your surgeon and I am relieved for you. This is great news and I am hoping I will get the same! I know what you mean about how a little unfil makes such a huge difference. Where I live her it's salad season and I could not handle them when my band was tighter. If i get hungry and I used to never do this beause it never worked....! But i eat a banana or a piece of fruit and it fills me up in a hurry. Best to you! Keep us posted -
I think pancakes was a bad idea.....
Sooverit! replied to marfar7's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Your uncle is a smart man~! This is totally the case with me as well, but for me I sometimes have to get sick more than once until my brain goes no way you don't want that. It is a matter of my mind adjusting to my new body that doesn't have an iron stomach any longer. It's almost like I have a normal stomach now, before being banded I could eat 5x more than anyone and never feel sick or every have indigestion. This trait was probably a great survival mechinsm many years ago but in this American obessed with thin society it's a negative trait for sure! -
I think pancakes was a bad idea.....
Sooverit! replied to marfar7's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi c...I hope I didn't sound harsh when I said that I get nauseous thinking of pcakes...I was feeling grumpy last night because I'm worried about a band slip but I don't think it's the case. I will report back if it is but I have a gut feeling it isn't. Listening to my gut has always been a good approach for me. I want to tell you though that before my fill I could eat anything also. AFter my first fill ...I could eat almost anything but wasn't losing additional weight from the original weight I lost post op. AFter my 2nd fill ...anything that expands...like breads etc. will cause me to get stuck! I am not good at chewing slowly though and that may be my problem. It's a hard habit for me to start after so many years of eating without thinking. Everyone is different though hon and I wish you success which I know you will have. best ..m -
Question for Post Banders
Sooverit! replied to anglov's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Angie: I for one did not foresee feeling so lousy. Pain and nausea...it was pretty intense the first night home. I did not stay over night at the hospital and I did not have pain meds. and as someone pointed out each person is a different body and has different responses. Age, health, etc. all play into it. Keep everything you will need by your bed side. I had chicken egg drop soup that night and it was amazing. I remember with each nap I had I would wake up feeling better. You'll be fine! best to you! -

How are people banded in Nov. 2009 doing?
Sooverit! replied to vlp1968's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you for asking....I was banded in December 09 and I too have had 3 fills and counting today 2 slight unfills. I think I may have been too tight and would urge ppl that I think it's better to be slightly over than under. Over filled I couldn't handle veggies and healthy food or vitamins for that matter. Got back from vacation last week and have had relux since getting off plane. My LapBand doc is worried I had a slip. We will see after the Fluro test I will get hoperfully this week. Was this all worth less than 40 pounds ....? Being I was gaining before this and I'm not now I would say yes....as long as I didn't slip and I have not esoph damage due to the reflux. Here's praying....If I didn't slip than I will have an entirely new respect for the band and not take it for granted and eat better or make sure I am not over filled. Hope you are doing well!? -
Help please? liquid coming up at night
Sooverit! replied to tinaj's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
The band gets tighter at the TOM (time of month). If you can get a slight unfill it would probably be very worth it. I say this because I was probably too tight and went through a lot of pain and worry when it could have been cured by an unfill. My doc thinks my band might have slipped as I have reflux at night recently. I will only know after tests though in a few days. Wishing you the best. -
How do I know if my band has slipped?
Sooverit! replied to paisleypea's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I hope everything worked out for you. I am sitting here praying my band did not slip though I have reflux at night ...since I got off a plane last week. My doc thinks my band slipped. If you are too tight ....please get fluid removed even just alittle ..you will loose more weight if you do as you can handle veggies better. -
I think for me it wasn't until I was completely sure myself that I wanted the Lap Band surgery and everyone else knew I was completely serious about it, that the support then came in. I only told a handful of relatives and very few friends. Most people don't understand the LB or my need to be overit! I'm still surprised at how my husband came around and was my biggest supporter. He saw me on line with this site daily for hours for almost two years. It took me that long to research and get the funding etc. After I got the surgery I think I've been on here only a doz times in 2 years! It's a journey as they say! Best to you! marg

Best to you on Friday! I think if you polled every person they would have a different experience with the surgery. I wished I had an overnight stay because I was pretty uncomfortable after the surgery. Ask the doc about anti nausea meds which I didn't have and pain meds have on hand along with plenty of Water and clear Soups etc. I had my surgery almost 2 years ago and I haven't regretting it for a minute. Good luck! marg
