dear Bell I see I was so self absorbed that day i didn't even congratulate and send you wishes on your upcoming surgery in MX! I was going to do MX with Dr. Rumbaut but found a closer place to me. Who is your surgeon and when is your date? thanks again Bell
  3. I think all surgeons have different rules. My pre-op directions are not too bad - tho I say that now~!. Just one week of Optifast protein drinks 5x a day and low fat veggies ect. My week is the week of Thanksgiving! They told me I can eat on that day as long as it isn't high in fat. it's to shrink the liver....didn't know the liver shrank that fast?

    HELP burned out already !

Oh Bandtastic, you are so insightful..my sister would be proud of me! I have been thinking just lately that I will do this in honor of her. Things have been falling into place like magic lately. I actually found money that I didn't know I had...not that I have any to lose ...but I did...it was in a bank from years ago! I am just letting go now and letting this event unfold. You are so good to read all my rambling. Blessing to you, Marg

    HELP burned out already !

Dear Jack: Thank you for checking in on us...So glad to see your message ...your posts always gave me a smile:=) Yesterday was just a hit the wall day. I'd seen every doc under the sun 4 weeks straight and I'm not a doctor going person. The system looks okay so far except for slight heart thing but no one's perfect!` Today I feel like a new person...every thing's just falling into place, CDs from bank got wired and what's left is ready to vanish. I did, however, gain a new perspective in these past weeks on aging, sickness and dying all that fun stuff we sweep into the recesses. I smile and go out of my way for every elderly person I see...whether they look at me oddly or not...usually I receive a warm appreciative smile back and I know the saying aging ain't for wimps is a great truth .

State: Texas.....the best state "Sliming" refers to the excess saliva produced by your body as a natural defense mechanism when you get something "stuck" in your band. Sliming usually means that one had eaten too fast, not chewed well enough, or eaten a band- unfriendly food (although this differs from person to person....some people can tolerate foods that others cannot. Usually the worst offenders are the "doughy" foods or some super fiberous foods like celery, pineapple, asparagus, etc). Having a Lap Band doesn't mean that you'll be doomed to a life of always sliming. You just have to be careful and eat the right types of foods. __________________ Dr. Hekier - banded Feb 22nd 2008 6'4" / highest wt - 378 / target wt - 250ish MySpace.com - Trey Swint - 38 - Male - DOUGLASSVILLE, Texas - www.myspace.com/treyswint 06-06-2008, 10:23 AM #3 lucymae Registered User Thread Starter Join Date: Mar 2008 Age: 54 Posts: 56 State: California Thank you Plain. I was thinking that maybe I should not get a fill if I did that but I bet it is because I take too big of a bite. I go in for a fill on Tuesday and I really want to get more restriction because I don't even know that I have the band, except for the times I take too big of a bite and start the sliming thing. It usually happens when I am eating something that I don't use silverware. I think cutting things up with silverware is probably a good thing since I cut it much smaller than I would tend to bite it. __________________ Surgery Date: February 2008 start/current/goal 248/ 189 / 170

  9. hey December Diamonds and Holiday hotties....My surgery is for December 2nd! After years of dragging my feet now it seems like it's coming so fast I can't keep up with all the appt.s ect. and emotions. Wish me luck! I'm part of a low BMI study for those under 40 BMI. Hope I'm doing the right thing. I always second guess myself though.

    I need support you guys.

Hi Lea: I grew up in Glendale Queens so always get happy when I see a Queens girl. Now what's going on? Did you start with a low BMI? Are you eating proteins first no matter what? I do the same thing by the way with exercise. I found that once I joined a raquetball league where I HAD to be there 3-4x a week or I would let people down I went. Exercise always calms my appetite down.....If I don't do it first thing in the morning ....I usually never get around to it. Start with one small thing and be patient it will become a habit ...oh and start out slow...I always go in like gang busters and 6 weeks later crash on the couch with junk food. Slow and steady starting out with the exercise....pls keep me posted.

Thank you so much Kh and Bell for your comforting words! Kh I will look for your post that's for thinking of me. Bell...I think you're right....I've been a parent of younger kids for 21 years.....I've got to parent me now..I suppose ...thank you again!
  13. I've been feeling so bloated and gassy and I haven't even been banded yet. It must be my age I'll be 50 in March. I used to have an Iron stomach ....that is not the case any longer. After banding how long did it take for the gas from surgery to go away for you? thanks
  14. Oh no.....Wish I could help you Sunshine....if you need a ride in Ny airports I could help~ wishing you find a ride soon....best to you, m

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

ve slipped into back into some bad habits. I've been 'dieting' for the past 11 months, and suddenly, I've been wanting my former foods. I think it's the time of year - so many holiday reciptes, cold-weather foods, sweets, family gatherings - and less low-calorie summer foods around. Had an appointment with my second Psychologist for a new Lap Band surgeon and she is actually extremely informative and don't feel like I've wasted money like I did on nutritionist, etc. Anyway ...just wanted to pass on her wisdom to you. She said this time of year Serotonin levels drop and this causes carbohydrate cravings. Also cloudy weather does this....I was amazed how true it is ...and how much I want to eat on a rainy day!

    For those with BMI 35-40?

My overweight cardiologist said the other day "You're not that big". Others say you are not 100 lbs overweight...ya wanna weight me...I'm 98 over healthy weight...I carry it well I guess and can wear clothes to hide it but they don't have to feel the pain physical and mental of carrying it. .

    For those with BMI 35-40?

Good for you Shamrock! I know me and I can't keep any good news to myself so I will probably be telling people who don't even ask! I too had the same situation when I went to my meetings as well. I try to think they were not dirty looks just looks of yearning to be like you! The entire proceeder is so much easier on the body if it is at our weight than well over 40 BMI!

    For those with BMI 35-40?

Many surgeons in my area of NY are accepting patients with BMIs below 40 without co mobidities. Some are even studying Lap Band surgery for those with BMIs as low as 30. Surgery is much easier on a patient with a relatively lower BMI and why wait. Most people who reach obesity levels stay that way and or become severely obese.

    For those with BMI 35-40?

So what do you tell people when you lose the weight? I imagine saying I had a thyroid condition that has been taken care of but....lying is almost always the wrong choice. I live in a fairly small town and don't want everyone knowing and If I say it was just diet and exercise that that's lie too. What have you said and how have you said it?

    Lower BMI'ers--2008!!!

Thank you Denise. I still can't believe I actually have a surgery date of December 2. Now I'm going through those fears of missing food after being banded....I almost feel impending grief! My wiser side though knows this is the right thing for me.

    Finally....December

I still find it hard to believe that I have finally gotten a date for December , 2008. It even feels strange typing this. I have watched 100s of people here get their dates and now I'm one of them! I have been dealing with an impossible insurance company. Found a low BMI study I am partaking in that has reasonable rates!! Waahoooo...

    Lower BMI'ers--2008!!!

Hello Baby! Hope you like my photo . I was invited to partake in a LOW BMI study, the price is affordable, the surgeon is highly experienced and the hospital is Columbia Pres In Westchester! The referring center is an Obesity Clinic that specializes in Lap Band surgery follow up care and obesity. I will have the support now and it is close to home. It's all about being patient and not giving up with anything in life! I just didn't give up and stayed positive and this is the best choice for me. I agonized for 2 years and fought my insurance company but in time the answer came. Thanks for starting this post....hope you are well
