Just want to bang my head against the wall...
Vicki Loichinger replied to kristy3k's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Debra You are surrounded with people who can help you and that is a precious gift. I think we all need to listen to our bodies so we will know when we get off track and that we need to seek help sooner not later to keep a handle on things. This surgery is no magic bullet but it can be an awesome tool. This is a lot to go through to just go back to the same bad habits I am so glad we have this forum to come to to helps each other. -
December 2012 Post Op Group
Vicki Loichinger replied to Simplysouthern26's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am just thrilled with how we are all doing for December surgeries. I know some have had some bumps but I am praying for each of us that we will continue to heal and feel better every day. I do believe I would have to slap somebody if they came up to me today and said anything about this surgery being the easy way out. Wishing us all the best of Fridays -

Lap band to Bypass
Vicki Loichinger replied to amvg85's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Welcome I just had a revision from band to bypass last wed. I had the band for seven years. In the beginning I lost about 30 pounds but over the years gained and lost and gained those same 30 pounds many times. I never got the right restriction. Either too tight or too loose. Or finally just no fill at all. A lot of this is my own fault for not getting enough follow up care. And also once you find out mashed potatoes will go down and not come back up, unlike say chicken, it was easy to stay on soft slider foods. Which of course are way too high in carbs. I never had a slip or erosion or anything. My surgery last week included band removal, RNY, scar tissue and adheasions from previous abdominal surgeries and last but not least the removal of an ovary that had a mass and cysts on it. I wonder if it is possible for you to have the band out and the RNY done at the same time. I believe it depends on what kind of damage the band has done. I was very afraid to wake up with no band and no RNY. Even though my band wasn't used like it should I do think it kept me from gaining a lot more weight that I would have without it. Wishing you the very very best. Again welcome. -
just wonderful just wonderful You have to be so excited.

What should/shouldn't I bring to surgery..and what should i not do right after you get home from surgery..i cant find it :(
Vicki Loichinger replied to DianaDominate's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think the hospital will give him a pillow and a blanket, and they probably have a chair or couch that pulls out in the room for him to sleep on. You might just call the hospital and ask if they do. My room did. -

I went in on Wednesday for surgery and came home Sunday afternoon. That is a couple days longer than a lot of people. But I had three surgeries in one, band removed, rny and ovary removed. Also I am not one to beg to go home. I like the hospital, I know that is silly but I really don't mind it. So even being in there extra days I didn't need much. -

welcome we are surgery twins. How are you doing? Everyday for me is a bit better than the day before. I hope the same is happening for you. -
yes yes and yes, It finally all worked out. But I felt the same way. Had surgery canceled once, meanwhile pain came up, and ended up seeing a Gyno Doc at 11 on Tues for an ok to have surgery on Wed. I felt helpless in all of it. Just jump through hoops and it gets old. but eventually you are on the other side, I can't believe today has been a week post op already, this past week sure went faster than any of the weeks before.

Yes I think it is perfectly normal. You will go through a flood of different emotions... Hang in there. Tomorrow will be a whole lot better.

Honestly, You need to bring very little with you. Your cell phone and charger, chapstick, wear comfy clothes there and you can wear those back home. I had a nook tablet (didn't use it) had my laptop (didn't use it) had some pajama pants (didn't use them) underware (didn't use them) everything you need is pretty much supplied. I used the hospital gowns and used one backwards as a robe when walking the halls. I watched very little TV. I just couldn't concentrate long enough on anything. If you aren't resting and sipping, you are walking or sleeping. I just finished taking everything out of my bag and none of it was used. If you have a ways to go bring a small pillow for you belly. If you can only sleep with a certain pillow bring that, I did and I used it. Just don't forget it lol. Wishing you the very best -
the waiting for approval is the hardest part. It is hard on us not to have control and this is one area where we are at the mercy of the inusrance companies and the doc office. We do everything they ask us and we still wait. Wishing you the best and hoping you hear something very soon.

Happy New Year to you. I think that is so cool that you will have surgery the last day of the year and be starting your new Journey on the first day of the New Year.. Sounds awesome. The hospital stay could be one or two days, just depends. They won't just kick you out till you are ready. I had surgery Wed and came home Sunday afternoon. I just wasn't ready before that. And once I got home I didn't have that urge to tell my husband to get me back there, so I think it was the right amount of time for me. -

My IV was in my arm. I was not on a pain pump, but they did give me pain and nauseua meds throught the iv site. I had no drains either. I guess everybody is a little different and every doc. I was dreading that I would have a drain so I was thrilled when I didn't. -

The itching started yesterday in just a couple of spots, so far I have been able to control myself. I haven't put anything on my belly because there is still all this glue on the incisions and I didn't think i should mess with that. I just keep telling myself it itches cause it is healing. Not sure how long that will work. lol -
