Like some people have experienced in their lives, my weight has been a yo-yo. I was born 6 oz. short of 10 pounds. So, I say my weight problem began at birth. I could loose the weight, and then it would slowly creep back on and then some. My husband is wonderful in that area, he does not care where my weight is, he loves me. After I had my son at 37, I struggled to get it off. It was harder than before. When he was 11 he asked why we did not go snow skiing. I was embarrassed to tell him I couldn't. So then I decided ok, I am going to loose weight and take my son skiing. I asked my primary care physician at Kaiser if I could be a candidate for weight loss surgery, she said no, you had to have two life threatening conditions and I only had one. So I returned to Weight Watchers with a friend and some new found determination. I lost 55 pounds. It took less than 2 years to gain it all back except 5 pounds. Again I went to Dr. Ellis to ask if I could have weight loss surgery and she said Kaiser had made changes to the qualifications for weight loss surgery and that now I was a candidate. So i attended the classes, did all the things Kaiser asks of their patients, it's too long a list to write. I knew from day one that it was the lap band that I wanted to have. It is the least evasive surgery, and the fewest complications and can be adjusted. So here I sit 2 years later writing my story and very happy with the decision I made.
