Finished my last phone appt this morning. Yes!! On to the next step! Wahoo!!!

Hi all, just want to say that I AM SICK OF WAITING! As you may be able to tell, I am not a paitent person. I guess I am frustrated because I have sucessfully completed all of the requirments from the BA Center. Psyc Eval, dietician, physical therapy, and dr. The only thing left is to see the surgeon and schedule. The problem and the cause of my frustration is my insurance, health partners they require me to do 5 appts over the phone with a nut and an exercise specialist before I can get an approval. The appts have to be 2 weeks apart. Well I have 2 left. So I won't be finished until Nov 26th. Well I am being told that that runs into me not being able to have surgery until sometime in Jan. I know, I know, that is just around the corner so what the big deal right. Well the big deal is I AM SICK OF WAITING! As I stated earlier I am not a patient person! If I understood why this is delaying me then maybe it would be easier to deal with. I realize the insurance company wants to make sure that I am prepared to make changes. However, having me tell someone every 2 weeks if I exercised or ate right gets old after a month. Basically we have nothing to talk about they ask a couple of questions I answer them then its awkward because she probably can't end the call early so she starts her fishing expedition she will ask are you struggling with anything? No, everthing is well. Do you have any questions for me? No, I have a clear underatanding of whats going on. Then silence she has nothing else then its awkward again. So I start to feel like they have nothing more to offer me other than an approval which they wont give me yet, so what is the freakin point of these conversations! They are not doctors, so the questions that I do have specifically about surgery they can't answer them. This is straight foolishness! I feel like they are wasting my time.

Any One Know About Flying After Surgery
A Rose replied to kauaigirl808's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It does. However, I wont have much of a choice. It will either be to fly (2 hr flight) or drive for 19 hours. -
So I took you guys advise and I have been trying to see the positive to all this waiting : ) I have researched and started taking my pre surgery supplments. I have been testing out some protein powders. I have even practiced eating slower and chewing longer. (Need more practice) I am feeling better about things. I was able to speak with someone at my surgeons office and was told that Dec 3 rd I will be submitted for insurance approval. She said that my insurance is usually quick 2 weeks max for an answer. Then within 2 weeks of that I will get to see the Nut and the surgeon to schedule my surgery. In the meanwhile I will continue to work on my new lifestyle! I don't have to lose any weight before hand, but I decided that I want to lose 15 lbs before surgery. Since I have to do a preop diet anyway. Might as well make the best of it and choose to lose : )

Any One Know About Flying After Surgery
A Rose replied to kauaigirl808's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I may be facing a similar situation, but my flight will be 2 hrs. I haven't talked with surgeon yet as I still have about 3 weeks or so to get to that point. Hopefully I will be able to fly afterward. -
If everything go as planned, mine will be submitted around the same time.

Today was my 1st set of appointments. I had my lab work and EKG done and met with the nurse. Then I had my bariatric assessment with the Dr. , followed with the psych eval. All cleared me to go on to the next step. Ok its sinking in this is going to happen.

1St Round Of Appts. Check!
A Rose replied to A Rose's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I thought it was weird too. They sent me a pedometer and a huge booklet of info about pre and post op. I have to read a few chapters and answer questions then when the dietician or exercise specialist from the Health Partners( my insurance) call I discuss it with them and set mini goals to accomplish every 2 weeks. I guess its there way of making sure I fully understand whats involved and that I am ready to make some changes. My mini goal this time is to lose 3 lbs by Oct 15 th and to eat better and get more exercise. Its funny because basiclly its like they are reviewing what I discuss at my Drs. appt. as far as eating and exercising. However, I don't think they could probably tell me much about the actual surgery or what all is involved. Sorry for the long answer : ) -

I have to do a total of 5 phone appts. with my insurance each has to be 2 weeks apart. I had the first 1 this morning. I also have another set appts. at the bariatric center. At that set I will see the Dr. again, a dietician, and a physical therapist. I am super excited. As long as everything continues to go well, We should be able to submit to insurance for approval around Nov 12 th. -

Sorry hit the wrong button :/. As I was saying, I am having a range of emotions right now. From very excited to super scared. I have wanted to have wls for years. I am from South Carolina and had heard of various people who did it. However it was always in a negative way. So I never told anyone that I wanted it. In the past couple years I have found my inner strength to not care what others think if its going to improve my health and life. What I am fearful about is that I have 5 children. My oldest is 18 but is away in school. My oldest at home is almost 14 and my youngest is 13 months. I worry about how this will affect them. Any way I will stop babbling. I am glad that I found this forum and hope to be part of a great support system.
