Any Help On What To Expect??

I started my journey in Feb and I am being banded finally next week. It's been a long process for me, because of my insurance. Everyone's process is different. Good luck!

    Yes Im Over Weight But...

I recently went to a d**k's to buy a new IFIT Epic Elliptical machine for workouts after the band when the guy helping me happened to "mention" out loud that it has a "350 lb weight limit". Hellooooooo, like I didn't already know that. Some people are stupid.

    One Week Til Surgery!!!!!!!

Well, every hospital and doctor is different, but it should go something like this: check in, pee test, go to room and strip down and put on gown, have iv line inserted and you relax on the bed until it is time. I got wheeled into the room and they had me slide over to the op table, asked me to lean my head back(for the breathing tube) and that was the last I remember. Unfortunately, I woke up to find that my surgery didn't take place as my liver was too large. I have been on the liquid diet since Oct 28th and I finally go back for my 2nd attempt next week the 16th. You'll be fine and it'll be great. You'll see. As I always say, "let go and let god" and don't worry about it.

    Huge Disappointment

Well, I got all prepped for surgery, went under and they cut me open and moved stuff around, then found my liver was 2 ½ times the normal size, so they could not safely do the surgery and they closed me up. I have 5 incisions/stitches and they took a liver biopsy. He is going to have me on another 6 weeks of a liquid diet and then they will try again, so I will have to reschedule the surgery. I am sooooo disappointed and not looking forward to another 6 wks of liquid. I had been to the grocery store and stocked up on what I needed post-op. I was perfect on my diet and lost 24 lbs during the 2 weeks, but I'm a big girl and need more time for my liver to shrink. He also mentioned that in another 6 weeks, if it is still not down enough that he may go ahead and do the sleeve(with my permission of course). Congrats to all my other Sept 11th bandsters that had success. :(

I've Made It To Oz... Surgery Tomorrow!!!

I'm having my surgery tomorrow as well! 12:00 check in time. Good Luck to you!
  7. I am having my surgery with Dr Nick on the 11th and I am on the 2 week 1200 calorie pre-op diet and it is sooooo hard. If the shakes were better, then it wouldn't be so bad, but it is hard to get those BA shakes down without gagging towards the end. At least the bars are somewhat tastier. I stay hungry thoughout the day, my mind thinking of all the "good" food out there. Any suggestions on those nasty shakes?
  8. I finally gave up on my BA protein shakes as I could not get them down without gagging after day 2 of my pre-op diet. I'm sticking with the bars for now and have ordered some Unjury (chicken soup flavored-hot) and also some GNC chocolate flavored mix that got some rave reviews. You might try those.

    Stress Test

Well, I just completed my first stress test ever and I didn't fall dead off the bike, so I consider it a good day. Not sure if I passed/failed...they always just look at you and smile. It would be nice if they had a "fat" person seat on the bike, after all, this was a stress test for the band and big people have to sit on that thing. Not to mention the fact that you have to jump up on it.....not a pretty sight. Anyway, 6 months of dietitian classes, therapy, sleep studies, ekg's, stress tests and paperwork later, and my surgery is this Tuesday! I can't wait...I'm tired of the BA bars and those nasty shakes. I've got some Unjury samples on the way and a GNC chocolate protein mix on the way thanks to some helpful suggestions. Have a great day banders!
