How Soon Did You Return Back To Work After Surgery
motherlaura replied to goingfoit's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor put me down for 10 business days out - so I'm 1 week post op today and go back to work a week from tomorrow. Could I go back to work today? I'm sure I could, I'm off pain meds since yesterday - but I don't want to. I don't feel anywhere near ready to go back to work. I can tell that my body has a lot more healing to do even if I'm not hurting terribly bad right now. I really think that 3 weeks off would be ever better. Just not having to deal with protein shakes every hour at the office alone is a good enough reason! -
Anyone Getting Banded In September?
motherlaura replied to millsy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm seven days post op and just started burping yesterday (though I had a hernia repair as well). I've burped four times total now, involuntary each time. Best moments ever. Also at day six made it all day without pain meds. Sure do miss eating real food...! -

Pressure in my chest :(
motherlaura replied to ShaeShae1983's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thankful to find this topic! I'm 6 days post op and having the same intense chest pressure - it really isn't fun. I also had the hernia repair. Glad to know it's not something to worry about! -

What I'm Going To Need For The Few Days After Surgery,
motherlaura replied to lapbandct07's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Two things I'm glad I thought of before surgery... Other than broth, Protein shakes and crystal light the rest has been about being comfortable. I have 5 incisions, two of which are pretty large and one of them is right below my bra band & clevage. A super comfy bra is essential. And super comfy clothes. I ordered these two things: http://www.womanwithin.com/clothing/Wirefree-Cotton-LeisureSleeping-Bra-by-Comfort-Choice.aspx?PfId=183640&DeptId=9430&ProductTypeId=1&StyleNo=0929 (discount codes available online!) and these gauchos: http://www.target.com/p/merona-women-plus-size-gaucho-crop-pants-assorted-colors/-/A-13885647 I got two pairs of new comfy pants - and one new bra. Really wish I'd bought two bras as well! -

I Weight More Post-Op?
motherlaura replied to motherlaura's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know that staying away from the scale would be the best thing to do but I seem to keep getting on it. I'm no longer bummed out by it but I'm still watching it... today is the first day that I'm back to my pre-surgery weight so it took about 5 days for things to subside. -
I have that rumbling feeling a lot also, and I was banded on the 11th as well. Are you drinking other things now? I'm living on lots of protein shakes and crystal light - 2 ounces at a time. Jello isn't in my allowed list of things to do... and turns out most broth is pretty icky, But, if you can get pho broth from a Vietnamese restaurant, it's delicious!

Too bad there's not a surgery for maturity... or self realization. -

Anyone Getting Banded In September?
motherlaura replied to millsy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So it's Friday and I was banded Tuesday early AM. I'm still in a lot of pain (reminds me of my c sections) but the medicine helps so I'm just staying drugged up and letting my family take care of me so I heal. I've been walking around the house a lot and getting out once a day to walk somewhere outside at a store. I'm enjoying the chocolate Nectar protein shakes with PB2 and a little sugar free caramel syrup added in, but I found the vanilla one to be disgusting! Crystal Light is my favorite thing to drink right now. I'm still weighing in heavier than I was going into the hospital, i guess from the fluids, anesthesia, gas, etc - but that's ok. I'm feeling really good about making this choice for my health and am so excited to get on with healing and being healthier! Good luck to everyone out there! -

I Weight More Post-Op?
motherlaura replied to motherlaura's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks... I'm definitely trying not to feel discouraged but there's definitely a little part of me that's pouting over it. -
I don't mean to sound petty - but I'm really kind of bummed that yesterday and today while I've been at home, I actually weigh more than I did when I went in to get banded on Tuesday. Just a few pounds more but with consuming nothing really besides 2 ounces of Protein Shakes at a time and doing other sf drinks in between, I just assumed that my weight would keep dropping from the get-go like it was during the Atkins pre-op diet. Is this normal? Maybe the result of the anestheia, the pain pills, etc?

I've had 2 c/sections and got banded three days ago (Tuesday). I have had a LOT of pain, but my doctors and nurses worked pretty hard to help get it under control. I was kept overnight (standard for all patients who see my surgeon) and that gave them a good chance to try and control the pain. I had to advocate for myself because they weren't doing enough until I pushed the issue. Anyways, my c/sections were definitely worse, but overall the feeling is similar - just more mild than the c/s. Just don't hesitate to take the pain pills, that's what they're there for! If you're hurting too much and not doing anything to treat the pain it will hinder your healing. Good luck!

Anyone Getting Banded In September?
motherlaura replied to millsy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Got banded yesterday at 8am, along with a hiatal hernia repair. Surgery was at 730am and I was waking up in recovery before 11. Still in the hospital as my doc always requires a minimum one night stay. I have pretty tremendous pain personally, I just realized yesterday that this it's major survey! I have five fairly large incisions for laproscopic, could show you guys a picture! I hope to go home sometime today but I don't feel great by any means -

I've had a hard time keeping up with you all but I really appreciate reading all the posts. 830Pm here in Seattle tonight and I check in for surgery tomorrow morning at 530. So thankful that I'm done with protein for now and ready to get this over!
