I know the pre-op phase is hard … but you can do this! If you 'break-down' now you will set yourself back … you've come this far … following our diet guidelines is the KEY to success with being banded.
Try having some broth … it helps to ease the craving.
Maybe even some thinned out cream of chicken Soup may help … but keep things liquid and take control … you can do this!!!

I see so many posts like this, and it concerns me that so many surgeons are giving their patients unrealistic expectations for weight loss within the first couple months after surgery. You had surgery only 11 days ago and are still healing from the trauma your body went through. You were pumped full of fluids and medications. You also dropped a ton of weight in pre-op. Your body needs to adjust to it's new normal. I am very concerned that you are eating fish and solid vegetables only 11 days after surgery.
My surgeon made it very clear that the first 6 weeks were for healing, not weight loss. In fact, I GAINED 8lbs when I switched to mushies. After that, I avoided my scale those first couple months. Things stabilized after that. Please be patient and remember this is a marathon, not a sprint. Once you heal, learn the new way of eating (chewing thoroughly, lots of Water, small bites, measuring your portions), and get fills, the weight loss will come.

Your doctor has a very unique protocol for his/her patient? There may be some exceptions but I know of no other forum members or patients whose doctor advised them to lose 10+ lbs before their first post op appt?
I assure you the lapband is not a joke. There can be so many reasons why you have not lost weight. Sodium intake, fluids pumped into you during surgery, meds, menstrual cycle, drinking a gallon of Water a day, etc can make you retain fluids. Drinking a gallon of Water a day can deplete your system of needed nutrients, mostly potassium which enables your bodies muscles to operate normally. This is very dangerous to your heart so be very careful how much you drink? You could be losing the nutrients that you need to lose weight and your body is compensating by retaining those fluids?
Slow down and eat normally. That means, eat Protein first, veggies second. Stop the extremes such as a gallon of water. Don't dwell on how much weight you lose at this point. I see this all the time and we've always been told that this is a time for healing, not losing mass weight.
11 days means nothing in this journey and no need to threaten to throw in the towel and panic until you've gone 4 months without losing weight. 11 days is a pebble of sand on the beach in the grand scheme.

11 days post op and you are eating fish and veggies and meats??? I know every doctor is different but 11 days post op I was still on liquids. I hate to be the bearer of bad news but I am 3 months post op and losing minimally, I am not at restriction, I am eating healthy and controled portions and calories, in all reality I am on a diet. (and if diets worked for us we wouldn't have gotten the band). I have been told and don't expect to start really losing until my band is at restriction and that could be in another 1 month or 3 months, until then........a diet. I am shocked that your dr gave you a weight loss goal. I had my 3rd fill last week and my nurse high fived me for losing 3lbs in 4 weeks........ Your band is not working for you yet and until you reach restriction you really do need to go easy on yourself.
    good luck.

Please make sure your dr is okay with this, but at the mushie stage, I bought a rotissaire chicken and put it in a blender with a bit of liquid, sometime added chedder or laughing cow............best thing I ever ate. I could also do chili in a blender, you should start eating your Protein not just drinking it. I put cottage cheese in my soup and blended it as cottage cheese is a good source of protein. I believe I stuck with one of my pre op shakes for bfast and ate my other 2 meals. tuna salad, chicken salad...........eating protein will keep you fuller longer. Again, make sure this is on your dr's plan, but this was my personal choices during my pureed and blenderized stage.

I have a funny story to tell you guys today. I will be banded this Friday and I have been doing really well on the liquid diet. The last time I weighed myself before today was the day before yesterday when I weighed. 281. Last night I cooked a Cuban traditional meal for my family
, and I thought I wouldn't have any issues. Boy was I wrong! I almost cheated! Imagine, white rice, black Beans and spicy pulled pork! Who can turn that down? But, I am proud to say I didn't cheat and this morning when I weighed myself I'm 277 lbs. i have lost 13 lbs. in 12 days, which is not bad at all!!!

Thanks for all the encouragement! I belong to a private fb group at St. Agnes in Baltimore, but it is for all wls patients. I believe band takes more determination, just my opinion. I realize that with all wls u can gain back the weight by making poor choices. My life will no longer look the same, i'm ready... Still nervous, but ready. Thanks for the stories of Ur journeys, keep them coming!!

I felt a little like how you are feeling too. BUT I'm two months post op and I've already lost 42% of what I need to lose!
If I knew then what I know now I wouldn't have lost any sleep!
    Hang in there!

Sweetie the first few days after I got my date (12/14), I couldn't sleep at all! I blamed it on my bed because I changed my room around! Lol!!!
I's normal. Just take a picture of yourself with a tank top and sweat pants on and look at it every time you have doubts! Then picture yourself skinny and believe me, your doubts will disappear!

It's totally normal for someone about to make major life changes to feel nervous about their surgery. You most likely know more about what you need to do than you give yourself credit for.
When you begin to feel nervous, get back in touch with your reasons for wanting to become healthier. If you have not already done so, create some goals for yourself, and begin to plan on what you need to do to accomplish them.
Most, if not all of us have had similar experiences...so come back often and receive positive feedback and encouragement. There are many supportive and knowledgeable members on this forum who will be here for you!
Best wishes for a successful journey...

Pre-surgery jitters. You know what you need to do so try to focus on that. It will pass soon and good things are about to happen.
Best of luck to both of you <<upcoming banders>>.

I just was banded so I cant relate to your fears., I was the same way and I had some success with the pre-op so I second guessed myself. Why can't I do it on myself or with the shakes. The answer is I haven't done it in the 10 years I have been overweight. It is so normal and I spent alot of time on this site looking at other people's success. I tried to focus on the positive and how different my life will be a year from now. Best of luck and as the others say stay focussed on the prize
