    LapBand Food Stages Lists Suggestions

Hello everyone! I could not have survived the pre-op phase, nor will I make it through the post-op liquid phase without my unjury Protein powder. I heard about it through a thread on this website and after checking it out and seeing the positive reviews, I sent away for the vanilla and the chocolate Splendor. They use whey protein isolate and taste amazing with skim milk and an 8oz. glass offers 21 g protein and 180 calories. They have no sugar, only 4g of carbs and no fat. Delicious tasting in my opinion. Just thought I'd share my favorite Protein Powder. My surgeon's office promotes this powder as well. Thanks for all of the great information you've all supplied! I am so thrilled to have found so much support on this website from fellow bandsters. Keep up the great work everyone!
  2. Hello fellow bandsters, Just wondering if anyone here has tried any Bariatric Choice products and whether or not you were happy with them? I ordered some of their Protein bars, as well as their pancakes and sugar free syrup. The pancakes are high in protein, low in sugar and carbs. I am hoping I'll be happy with the purchase because most of the reviews were very positive. Thanks for any info? I also welcome any other info on products or websites you found particularly helpful. Thank you!!

    Cheated... :(

Admitting it is the hardest part! So, you are human and had a moment of weakness. None of us are perfect. I agree with the comments above. You have the right attitude about moving on and going forward. Half the battle, at least for me personally, and I would think for most people, is not beating ourselves up if we get off track momentarily, but rather realizing the error of our ways and starting over again. Good job. You'll be fine!

    Infection At Port Site

Although everyone is different and it is hard to compare, I can tell you that my port site is the most sensitive part of my abdomen right now, and I am now almost two days post op. Very tender and sore to the touch with some skin discoloration, swelling and bruising over the area. My surgeon is aware of it and did not express any concern. I would guess that if you are fever free and are not having any unusual drainage that perhaps it will just take some time to get back to normal. I am not a doctor, but I am an R.N., and that would be my opinion based on what you've described. However, if you are going to worry about it, then it can't hurt to have it looked at since you are a few days post op and probably don't have a follow up scheduled for a couple of weeks? Trust your gut (no pun intended) and do what you will feel most comfortable doing. If you just need a doctor to put your mind at ease, then there's no shame in that. Please keep us posted!
  5. Hello! I was just wondering if anyone else experienced a drop in B.P. or heart rate post-operatively after lap band? My B.P. normally runs around 120/70 - 120/80. The evening of surgery, it dropped to 80's/high 40's, and my pulse in between 40-50's. My doctor wasn't concerned since I was otherwise asymptomatic - no lightheadedness, no dizziness, etc. He attributed it to anesthesia, and the nurse suggested that pain meds could be a contributing factor as well. I am home now, day 1 post op, and using a home blood pressure cuff, I am still running around 89/56 with a pulse of 40-50. Has anyone experienced similar symptoms? I could use some reassurance! Thank you!!!
  6. Thank you for the information. I appreciate it. I'm hoping mine will bounce back too. Perhaps some of it was simply surgery related? Stress on the body, together with fluid retention from IV's and swelling. I will run it by my primary care tomorrow, but will also keep an eye on it for the next few weeks at home. Wish I could say my pulse in the high 40's was running related!!
  7. On an unrelated note, does anyone know how I can delete the second post? I tried the edit button, but there was not way I could see to delete the duplicate post. Sorry folks! If anyone can tell me how to delete it, I'd appreciate it!!

    2 Week Post Op Today:))

What a great post! So nice to hear you sounding so happy! Congrats on making it to the pureed (mushy) stage! That's terrific, and 13 pounds! Not too shabby! Sounds like you have plenty of incentive to stay motivated. Best of luck for continued success!

Does Everyone Still Take All Thier Vitamins?

Yes! I take a Centrum chewable (orange flavored, actually tastes pretty good), and viactiv chewables with calcium (chocolate flavored), one to two per day. They were recommended by my lap band nutritionist, and they go down easy, taste great and keep me feeling energetic and healthy. I was told it is imperative to take them daily for life, so I've just made it a natural part of my morning routine. I actually look forward to them!
  13. There are some skin tightening facial masks on the market, as well as some skin creams that are said to promote elasticity and firm the skin. I'd suggest researching a bit online to find out what ingredients to look for in creams and masks. Also, if there are any facial care places nearby, you might consider a consult with them too. Far less expensive that cosmetic work, and usually they can recommend what to use and often offer a series of treatments which might be the route to go. I have a feeling I'll be soon be researching these things as well because my family members have mentioned noticing the weight loss (only 17 so far) in my face as well. I have the same concerns. I'll keep you posted if I find any particularly promising products! Good luck!
  14. Welcome Cindy! I am new too! Just got banded yesterday. I have five incisions also. Sore, especially where the port is, but taking pain meds as prescribed and getting very excited for what lies ahead. We are all here to support each other, and as you can see, it is at your fingertips whenever you need it! I am excited about that too! Good luck! Let's keep in touch about our progress!
  15. Good luck tomorrow! I'm sure you'll do great! Very exciting!

    Eating Too Fast

I'm not sure if there is a recommended time frame for measurements that I am unaware of, however, in my opinion, I would say every 30 pounds or so, or every couple of months would be a good time frame in order to see results and walk away feeling positive. I'm sorry to hear you had such a bad experience eating too fast. I hope I don't forget and do the same! We all make mistakes, so I guess you just have to chalk it up to "lesson learned"! Sounds like you have done that already. Best of luck from here on out, with eating, and with measurements!

Note To Self: No Wiggle And Giggle!

You sound like a wonderful teacher. Gotta love a teacher who would do anything for her students! Glad you are feeling better though!
  18. You are welcome for sharing, and good luck to you too! Sounds like you are excited. You will do great! How are you doing with the pre-op liquid diet? That is the hardest part. The surgery is nothing really. I am sore, but it is bearable, and I am so thrilled to be over this part, that I am looking ahead with eager anticipation! Please feel free to ask any questions. I am not an expert, but will certainly be happy to share any info from pre-op to surgery. Best of luck!!!
  19. Hello! Glad you are feeling better. Sorry about the hiatal hernia. I assume he repaired it for you? I am feeling better. Sore, but better. He had to put my port on the right side. He usually does the left side, but said because of the way my muscles were, it wouldn't fit there. Hmmm... My biggest disappointment was gaining 7 pounds back! I assume it is Water weight due to swelling and IV fluids, but still...what a bummer! I had worked so hard to lose 18 pounds prior to surgery, so to gain 7 back stinks. Did you gain any after surgery? I don't recall hearing anyone talk about that. Anyway, I'm happy for us! It's done! Now we can look ahead!
  20. Help! Was losing so well before surgery! I had lost a total of 17 lbs. Now, one day post off, I have gained 7.5 pounds. I know it is probably from swelling and IV fluids, but it is so discouraging. Did anyone else experience this and if so, did the extra pounds come off in a few days? Thanks for any info!!!

  21. Thank you very much! Will def. Keep you posted on progress. So far so good! Just had an amazing nurse. That can make all the difference! Sad to see her shift end!
  22. Congratulations! I had mine this morning too! Who was your surgeon? I had Dr. Glasgow. He was great too. I am so excited and also relieved it's over! Can't wait to eat real food again in a few weeks! Well good luck, and let's hope we heal quickly!
  23. Correction to my previous post: The Unjury powder kept me full during my two week pre-op diet, not post op. I haven't been banded yet! Tomorrow is the big day!
  24. Have you tried unjury Protein powder? It is amazing. I absolutely love it. Check out www.unjury.com. The chocolate splendor and the vanilla are delicious. 1 scoop for 8oz. skim milk. It helped me tremendously on my two week post op liquid diet. I am having them delivered monthly now. One can gives you 17 servings just to give you an idea of how long it lasts. Oh, and 21 grams of protein per 8oz. serving. Soooo good, and kept me feeling full.
