My name is Rachelle. I am a 34 year old high school math teacher. I have two girls, 2 and 3 1/2 and I have been married to my best friend for 12 years now.
I started this journey a year ago really. I went in to see the doctor and was 5 pounds too light to qualify without any comorbidities. So I went back to the old faithful weight watchers and lost about 20 pounds, then gained it back. I did this about 3 times last year. After the third time I gained the weight back I decided I HAD to qualify this time. It was my only chance of long term success. So this time I qualified by half a bmi point, and they round up. :)
My appointment was on July 12 and the doctor said it would take about 6 weeks....I had my psych appointment the following Friday July 20 and did my blood work up July 25. I attended both the nutrition and lap band support groups as well. Now we wait on insurance approval. I'm not sure how long that's going to take but Dr. Callery didn't seem to think it would take that long. You don't realize how impatient you are until you actually have to wait!
Some of my reasons for getting the lap-band are:
1) I want to start living a healthier life and make sure my girls grow up with healthy habits. Maybe I can help keep them from this battle field.
2) I can't keep up the yo-yo. I'm tired of the constant up and down. I feel like this is my chance to finally win this battle.
3) I want to enjoy shopping again. Nothing sucks more than only being able to shop in the plus size stores, when they over-charge for poorly made clothing.
So welcome to my journey to finally reaching my weight goals and staying there.
I had my surgery on 9/4/12 at 7:30 am.
That was my initial introduction...I am now 17 months post-op. I have lost 87 pounds. I exercise 6 days a week for 40 min at least. I track all my calories in My Fitness Pal and I limit my carb intake. I feel amazing. This has definitely been the best decision I have ever made.
