Hello all, Let's see I had my surgery on Tuesday so this is day 3 post-operative. Sleep-Last night I slept great. First night thus far I have. I believe I slept right though. Maybe I got up once for the bathroom but that is great compared to every hour on Tue & Wed nights. I will tell you that I have to sleep in an elevated position. When I lay flat then try to get up it feels as though I have been stretching all the muscles in my abdominal area. Pain - I haven't used the pain meds since I got home. The Tylenol Liquid has been sufficient. I no longer feel like someone beat my stomach area up. Still some pain but it's minor. Eating - We'll see how it goes today. It's 8:30 a.m. and all I have had thus far is 2 of my prescription which need to be taken at least 1 hour before eating. I didn't wake up starving so maybe that part is gone. I hope so. Notes for you all that are coming up for surgery: I brought loose clothes to come home in but that was not what I needed. I thought they wanted loose fitting clothes because you didn't want anything tight around the abdoment. What I learned as apparently the stomach swells up quite a bit so thee pants I brought I had to keep unzipped. I did not even attempt a bra. Still haven't attempted a bra. Tomorrow I have to go to a wedding so I have to wear one. I was up walking the night of surgery. The hardest part of the walking is getting out of bed. Truly. I was not allowed ANYTHING (not even ice chips) until I had my Upper GI the day after surgery. This was to make sure I didn't have any leaks before I started putting stuff into my body. When I say nothing I mean I was lucky to get the little sponges you put in your mouth. My mouth felt like it was full of wet glue. I asked if I could have a Tic Tac and the answer was no. So be prepared. I did't even really watch TV the day I was there. I just dozed off and on all day. I am sure that was due to my friend Mr. Morphine . If any of you have a weakish bladder I would definitely recommend bringing pads so you don't urinate all over yourself every time you try to get out of bed. :omg: Hope this helps. Feel free to ask any questions and I will do my best to answer.

I thought I would be able to stay up late but I am zonked. I'll check in tomorrow. BTW - I may have not been hungry in hospital but I have been starving all day today. It feels like no matter what I eat the hunger doesn't go away. Now granted I am not eating mcuh of substance (broth, jell-o, protein shake). Oh well, I hope I am less hungry tomorrow. Good night all.:notagree BreadLady

:update: Well. First day home. I got home around 8:30-9:00 last night. I had to sleep on the couch as getting up from a lying down position was painful. It feels like someone beat me up (in the stomach area). Tonight it's much better. Someone asked if they kicked me out of the hospital. No. They were very good. As far as walking I was up the night of surgery walking. Not tons but I would do a lap around the circular floor I was on then I'd go to the bathroom then rest and start the cicle over again. I must say the worst part of the night in the hospital was I had to pee constantly. And I also happen to have a prolapsed bladder sos it doesn't always want to come out all at once. That is why I would go to the bathroom walk go to the bathroom again then rest. Lots of gas pains today but I think that is good. I went outside and walked around the circle I live on. Granted it was only 5 houses but still not bad!! Ok - today I am hungry. Wicked hungry! I am having a hard time because all the foods I had at home (my mother brought some stuff while I was in the hospital) is sugar-free. My body does not like any kind of artificial sweetener so I had a hard time "eating". Finally my husband went out and got me regular popsicles and regular jell-o. No problems now. I am not sure where my port is. I think I may be able to feel it but not sure. When they did the Upper GI yesterday I saw it though. Can't think of anything else right now. If anyone wants to do the chat room later PM me. I will keep my laptop open and logged on to LapBandTalk. Thank you to everyone for your well wishes and prayers. I truly appreciate them all. I can't wait til we are all done and can chat about our progress.

Hi all, Back home. Nothing to report! :faint: Just kidding. Wanted to freak you guys out a bit. What info you all want? I'll tell you this I wasn't even hungry in the hospital. I had broth - it never tasted so good.

Hi all, I'm home. Will post tomrrow. Can't keep my eyes open.

Hi all, Well it's just about 1 a.m. I can't sleep! Too pumped up. I even took a Xanax to help me sleep. No such luck. I have to get up in 3 hrs. 30 mins. Does the sleep you get under anesthesia count as sleep? I sure hope so. I'm going to give it another whirl. BreadLady

I agree Jachut. I will be banded tomorrow. When I originally spoke with my nutritionist I asked her if someone who won't use artificial sweeteners and likes bread (homemade or 100% whole wheat) could succeed with the LapBand and she said absolutely. Her biggest concern is the bad carbs, refined sugars, hydrogenated oils, etc. As long as you stay away from refined foods and foods with preservatives you are good. I also won't do artificial sweetener. I may be overweight but it's because I eat too much not JUNK. 100% whole wheat, fruit, etc. all good. The closer it is to it's natural form the better.

Anyone want to try the chat room for a bit?

My theme song for today! Come on everyone sing! You know how it goes The sun'll come out Tomorrow Bet your bottom dollar That tomorrow There'll be sun! Just thinkin' about Tomorrow Clears away the cobwebs, And the sorrow 'Til there's none! When I'm stuck a day That's gray, And lonely, I just stick out my chin And Grin, And Say, Oh! The sun'll come out Tomorrow So ya gotta hang on 'Til tomorrow Come what may Tomorrow! Tomorrow! I love ya Tomorrow! You're always A day A way! Okay, I'm a little giddy! My pre-op went excellent. :clap2::clap2::clap2:My lungs were clear . I didn't hide the fact that I had a cold last week and told her I still had sum "gunk" when I coughed. The "gunk" is clear so that is good. She talked to the Anesthesiologist and he was fine with it. The NP just said to keep using my inhaler today and use it first thing tomorrow. You guys I am so excited I can't stand it! Of course I am terrified at the same time! Everyone, thank you for your well wishes, prayers, etc. I truly appreciate it. It really feels like we are a family! So I guess I will be the first "band baby". Dini you are next if I'm not mistaken. I will try and post on Wednesday probably at night and let you all know how it went. I have to be @ the hospital at 5:30 a.m.:notagree tomorrow morning. That is not going to be a pretty picture. Especially since I have to come "ugly". You know - no make up, no hair products (and I need them or I look like a boy). No jewelry. They gave me some special soap I have to use. Shower with it tonight and again in the morning. I am sure my skin will be dry as heck and itchy and I can't put any lotion on. Yikes! It's all good though! I am happy. But hey at least I am first up in the morning for surgery. That's good. Surgery is at 7:30 a.m. I am so not going to sleep tonight so it's good I have to go early. Chimboree26 - Great minds think alike. I bought a Magic Bullet on Saturday also. I haven't opened it yet but I did buy it. Can't decide whether I really want it or not. Funny though I had never heard of it until on this site. Well last night when I couldn't sleep (up til 2 a.m.) I turned on the television and guess what was on...an informercial for Magic Bullet! Too funny.

Chickb13 - I think I have heard of it. Isn't that the stuff to use if you are going to fly on an airplane? Chimboree26 - Thank you for your prayers. I have many people praying and it means a lot to me. Also, thanks for the info on Mucinex. Never heard of it. I went to the pharmacy to by my stuff for after surgery and took a look at it. I didn't buy it only because I feel it's kind of late to try it. But for next time good to know. I have 10 hours before my pre-op appointment...so I guess I am as better as I am going to get. I have this sinking feeling that I have a mild case or the beginnings of bronchitis. I get it several times a year. Not usually this time of year but go figure. I guess we'll see what happens tomorrow. I am feeling discouraged. I feel like tomorrow they are going to say NO WAY. But if they do I know it's for the best. It's just disappointing. But I will try to keep a positive attitude until I know for sure tomorrow. Thanks everyone for you well wishes.

Alexandra, I cant get my JULY 2006 thread to come up
BreadLady replied to edieparks's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I've been having the same problem. I click on a thread and get nothing! I went to another computer just to see if maybe something weird was going on with mine. I click on the thread and when the window opens there is absolutely nothing. Blank page. No message saying error or anything just a blank page. It is happening on a great deal of the threads I try to read. Just wanted to give moderators more feedback on the issue. Thanks. I LOVE THIS SITE. THANK YOU FOR ALL YOU DO!!!! -
Well - NO PHONE OR INTERNET Yesterday. I had some severe withdrawal!!!! Normally I camp in July and August and don't really have internet but I EXPECT it, I know I won't have it. This was aweful. I picked up the phone in the a.m. and it was dead. About an hour later the internet didn't work either. Man, I was going crazy not being able to log on here and see what was going on. :omg: Well guys, I don't know...I feel better but I still have a lot of gunk coming up from the cold. Tomorrow is my pre-op. We'll see - I am scared they are going to say no :cry . I am trying to rest. Anyone have any ideas to clear all this phlegm (sp?) out of me before tomorrow? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I can't read all the other posts on this thread for some reason so I hope all is well with everyone. BreadLady:sick

Sounds like you are on top of things with your appointments. I sure wish my Nutritionist had given me samples. I have to do my own sampling (i.e. spend $$$) on things I probably won't even like. Just keep on doing what they want you to do and you should be good for the 18th. Best of luck to you.

Thank you for inquiring Victoriana. I still have the cold but it seems to progress to a different stage each day. I slept a good portion of the day today. Hopefully that will help. Your prayers are greatly appreicated.

I like the idea of being able to get the each post easier. I know I have been having a problem even reading some posts. I will look at the thread and click on a post I haven't read and it just takes me to the first post from the thread. Very frustrating. Glad you took the initiative here! Thanks. -
Dini - I found this post on the site as I was browsing around. I hope this helps with the shakes.

Would you do it again?
BreadLady replied to seagogirl1957's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
maygoddess - Thank you so much for your honest post. I am being banded on Tuesday and know I will wish it came off faster but am confident in my decision to have the LapBand and NOT gastric bypass. Thank you again. -
Glad to hear it alysedg23!! I am being banded on Tuesday and am getting a bit nervous. Keep on with the updates! Best of luck to you in your LapBand journey.

:)Thank you Sunshine for doing the research. It's good to know. I also love to research things, sometimes I spend too much time. It's just so easy these days with the internet. I can spend hours researching something new I discover. Well all, I still have my cold but it seems to be changing so I figure it is going to go through it's stages. If the saying about colds 3 days coming, 3 days with and 3 to go is at all true...I am at day 2 of sick. This would mean by my pre-op on Monday (surgery Tuesday) I would be at day 3 to go. I am doing it all to try to get better before Monday. Emer'gen-C drinks, Cold-Eze Lozenges, Zicam, Plenty of fluids!!! And:notagree

Dini - That stinks! I am pretty sure there are others from Ireland on this site. Check around and find them. I bet they will know. I hope you find what you need. :boink:

Ok guys, I may ramble here...I am getting nervous. Happy but nervous. I can't believe surgery is 6 days away:eek: Yikes! Last night @ support group one of the guys who has had the band for I believe 1.5 years (lost over 125lbs.) showed us FitDay - Free Weight Loss and Diet Journal and how it worked. It's free online or you can download it for $29.95. Well I downloaded it onto my laptop as I figured when I am away this summer and will have limited internet access I should have it on my laptop. I started using it today. It is really cool. You guys should check it out. I put in all my beginning stats. Weight, measurements, etc. It is very user friendly and gives graphs and pie charts. I am a visual learner so this greatly helps. You can really see you food intake and calories! He said once you have it down it takes only a few minutes a day to put your info in. He has lost 11lbs. in the last month since using it. ANYWAY - My surgeon did not require that I go on a liquid diet before surgery but told me not to gain. After group last night I decided to at least start now so I get an idea of what I like. I had a protein drink for breakfast and lunch and dinner is cooking now and I can't wait for some food :hungry: Eating the way I did today somehow made if feel more REAL. Thank you everyone for your well wishes. The only thing that could get in my way of surgery is this bloomin' cold I have.:sick I have been doing everything within MY power to get rid of it swiftly. It's up to God whether Tuesday will be my day or not. I sure hope it is but I am trying not to stress (OK I AM) too much about it. ABOUT PROTEIN - I read the same thing sunshine did about the 25 grams. Somewhere on the site. I will search for the message.

Dini - The calendar looks great!!! Thanks for putting it together. It really is nice to see who has surgery when. Also, thanks for editing the calendar and adding me I just went to support group tonight. My doctor really likes all her patients to go. It was good to be around other people who have been banded. This particular support group is for bandsters and prospective bandsters only (no gastric bypass people - they have their own group). I can't wait until next month when I go I will be ONE OF THEM!!! Hope everyone has a good evening.

sister-in-law asked when r u having it removed?
BreadLady replied to edieparks's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Not that I am banded yet! Next week I will be. That said. What your SIL said seems to come from the "Diet" mentality. Of course we get the band so prevent us from doing that business again. You know go on a diet lose all that weight and then say "great I am done" and proceed to gain it all back again plus some! It seems that is the great thing about the band it's there permanently to help us. Thank goodness. Love your referring it to a muzzle. That's great :hungry: -
Hello all, I am so thankful. My surgery date was moved from 7/10 to 6/19. That means in 7 days I will be banded. :amen: I want to thank God for answer to prayer. My July date was going to be difficult but I did not want to cancel it. When I got the call today from my surgeons office I was so happy. Now to all of you prayer warriors :pray:out there...I woke up with a cold today. I have 6 days to get rid of it. Please pray that the Lord will heal this cold in time for my pre-op visit which is the day before my surgery date. I am doing everything on my end to get rid of the cold. Extra vitamin C, zinc lozenges and I really feel somewhat better BUT I am wheezing...that could be a real problem. Sorry I am being so long winded. I thank you for your prayers. I ask that the Lord would give me patience! Everything in HIS perfect timing!!!

:update: I am so excited!:whoo:My surgeon's office called today and told me they had an opening for the 19th of THIS month. I am so happy. My July date was really conflicting with many things but I figured if that was when it had to be then I certainly wasn't going to turn it down. Thankfully for me an opening came up and I am going in in EIGHT days! YIKES! I have some shopping to do and soon. Gotta go to WalMart and buy my gas-x, liquid tylenol, etc. I hope that you all don't mind if I stay with this group even though I am now going to be banded in June. PLEASE CAN I STAY?
