LOL. Just came back from the grocery. If the shelves were always as empty as they are now, weight loss wouldn't be a problem. -

No, unfortunantly New Orleans East bares absolutely NO resemblance of anything you would have remembered. It's basically nothing more then a wasteland now. -

Thanks JennyBee! Everybody is having hurricane Katrina flashbacks and freaking out. It's been raining everyday for the past month or so and the ground and levees are pretty saturated. The weather system says that we're going to get upward of 14-17 inches of rain in an already saturated landscape. Flooding is expected and we hope that the water pumps can keep up. They said the water pumps can handle 1 inch a hour and a 1/2 inch every hour after that, so I don't know how 14-17 inches of water is going to work out. We're expecting the worse and hoping for the best. Thanks again for keeping me in your thoughts. I hope you made out okay on your end. Peace. One Love. -Mike

Hello everyone, I'm MIke. I'm 38 (or am I 39, I forget), from New Orleans and I wanted to formally introduce myself to the forums. I've been a little chubby but the bulk, 100 pounds, I gained in past two years. I'm in drug recovery since February 16, 2010. I've switched addictions from drugs to food. Most of my weight gain in the last two years is a result of being clean and off drugs as well as the medication and a lot of tres leches cake., now that I have successfully passed my two year goal of being totally clean and have graduated from the medication, here I am 100 pounds heavier! My insurance (Medicaid) has approved my lap-band surgery and I am soooo looking forward to this new life of not only sobriety but with a new healthy body. I was scheduled for this Wednesday the 29th. to finalize all my surgery paperwork, but with the hurricane Isaac but to hit New Orleans on tomorrow and Wednesday, my appointment had to be rescheduled for September 13th. Damn, It seemed like it took forever to finally get to the 29th, now these next 2 weeks are going feel like an eternity! The most peculiar thing is that I was scheduled for gastric bypass August 29, 2005, the very day that hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans, as a result all the computer hard drives and patient records were lost, now on the anniversary of hurricane Katrina, seven years later, another hurricane is wrecking havoc and causing problems with my surgery. If I was a superstitious man, that would really give me something to think about. By the way, if anybody want to be friends and add me to Facebook here I am: https://www.facebook.com/mjuniordominguez Peace. One Love!

Thanks everyone. With hurricane Isaac baring down here in New Orleans my appointment what was scheduled for this Wednesday had to be rescheduled for September 13th. The most peculiar thing is that I was scheduled for gastric bypass August 29, 2005, the very day that hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans, needless to say it didn't happen, and as a result all the computer hard drives and patient records were all lost, now on the anniversary of hurricane Katrina, seven years later, another hurricane is wrecking havoc and causing problems. Thanks Jean, that was an issue that crossed my mind and one that my doctor and I discussed at length.. In respect to the forum here and without going into detail, within the last three months I was taken off of Suboxone which is a medicine used to treat drug addiction. My doctor even told me that once more and I'm dead. Honestly, after the slew of tests, I was surprised that my insurance even approved me for the lap-band procedure. I am faithful in attending my recovery meeting every week and am a peer counselor with youth at risk. Once an addict, always addict but days of using are behind me. I feel that I have the continuous support of family and friends as well as the ongoing tool of recovery that I can succeed. Thank you so much for your caring and concern, that really means a lot me. Abrazos!

Hi I'm Mike and gay. I'm from New Orleans. It's so great to see other gay people here in this community. I'm new here. I have my medical approval through Medicaid and have completed my mandatory 3 month diet. I meet with my doctor this Wednesday to begin all my pre-op blood work and other requirements. I'm extremely nervous, but it makes me feel a lot better to have found other brothers and sisters here. I look forward to knowing all of your better. Peace. One Love!

Hello everyone. I'm Mike. I started my lap-band journey six months ago with the initial seminal. Three months ago I received approval from Medicaid and began my required pre-op diet. This Thursday I go to the surgeon to begin all my pre-op blood work and other requirements. Now that that the ball is rolling I am becoming more nervous and anxious. I think one of the worst things that I could have done is researched pro's and con's online and on YouTube, one of the most things that I am nervous about is band slippage and what medical consequences could result from it, but I am still determined more then ever to go though with it. I'm, 38 years old and presently I'm at 324 pounds, the largest I've been in my entire life. My quality of life is "0". I'm hoping to get my weight down to 200-200 and start living again. I've been a drug addict since I was 17 and have been totally clean and drug free since February 16, 2010. When I got clean it seems that I switched one addiction (drugs) for another (food). I'm very excited and looking forward to my new healthy, weight-controlled life. Anyway, I just wanted to say hello and introduce myself. You'll probably he hearing a lot more from me post-op. Peace. One love!
