    Bad Breath?

Don't chew gum at all!! I've heard if you accidentally swallow it, it has to be removed surgically. Do they still make those little melting breath strips?! Sent from my iPhone using LapBandTalk
  3. That's fantastic! Your team works fast I am done with pre-op testing and just need my final doc visit!!! Then 2 weeks liquid and Protein shakes. I'm getting so anxious, but in a good way! I want to get started instead if just talking about it. Good luck to you with everything & I'm sure we will meet on here again. We are being banded around the same time. Hurray! 4. Thanks for the info. about the fill! It's good to just try and avoid situations like this, rather than scare yourself into eating right. But I suppose it is hard to change those bad habits overnight! Especially ones we've had for years. Good luck on your food choices and I'm sure I'll be asking for lots of advice as soon as I'm at this stage. Sent from my iPhone using LapBandTalk

    I Think I Need A Buddy. Struggling...

I am not banded yet, but have started a list of foods I will have stored at home for when I actually get to eat again. Are you in a mushy foods stage? If so, maybe try something from the following. Bananas, peeled peaches, applesauce. Mashed potatoes with a little butter and garlic! Mashed sweet potato with a little brown sugar & cinnamon. Flavored Instant oatmeal! Instant grits with a tiny bit of sugar free syrup. Water packed tuna with a little lite mayo! Scrambled egg beaters (I like a little ketchup on them) Various melons like watermelon, cantaloupe, or honeydew. I'm hoping the key is to try a variety of foods and see what works for you. And be creative in making it as yummy as possible. I hope you are having better luck today and are feeling a little better. Good luck!

Thinking Of Changing My Life For The Better

First of all, wish you the best of luck starting a family, that's wonderful for you both. Second, I really wouldn't think that a WLS would have any bearing on an insurance companies (does insurance even cover IVF?) decision to provide fertility procedures! As far as a doctor being okay with it, a good one would understand that you have a better chance of becoming pregnant, carrying, and keeping a pregnancy if you have significant weight loss! Go online and research the topic and your insurance and see what is covered. And best of luck to you with your lap band procedure and with making babies!!!

    What The Heck?!

Don't weigh yourself more than once a week, if that!! You will be pleasantly surprised that you are losing! Good luck with everything!

    Bad Breath?

Ketone strips are used by diabetics to test their urine if they think they are in "ketoacidosis"! My daughter is Type 1 -- with diabetics the body is using up everything in the body it can burn --fat & muscle and it causes these acids to be produced in the body! Deadly for diabetics -- but apparently a normal side effect for WLS patients. Anyway, the ketone strips will tell you if you have trace, moderate, or large amounts of ketones in your urine. Get them over the counter at most drug stores. Hope this helps.
  11. Has it been pretty rough getting used to the food plan? Are you glad you did it? What advice can you give me for post surgery? I appreciate any help or tips you can give! I hope you are doing well.
  12. What stage are you at in your surgery!?

    Japanese Onion Soup

This is the Soup they serve before meals at Japanese Hibachi places. Its so yummy! Let me know what problems or suggestions anyone has to make this recipe low in fat/salt/etc. I guess until someone was allowed on solid foods, you would omit the onions & mushrooms! Japanese Onion Soup 3 cups beef broth 7 cups chicken broth 1 large carrot 1 medium onion, chopped 2 garlic cloves, crushed 1 green onion, thinly sliced 1 mushroom, thinly sliced 1 tablespoon Durkee onions Directions: 1 Combine beef and chicken stock in a pot. 2 Add carrot, onion and garlic. 3 Bring to a boil, lower heat and simmer for 30 minutes. 4 Discard the carrot, onion and garlic and strain the soup through cheesecloth. 5 Place a small amount of each of the green onions, mushrooms and french fried onions in serving bowls and ladle the broth over them. Serve.

    I Think I Need A Buddy. Struggling...

I'm not banded yet, but I'm here for you also! I have been reading everything I can get my hands on about nutrition, expectations, side effects, etc. Don't feel bad about anything! It's very overwhelming and so much information! You should feel proud to have even overcome all that and taken this gigantic step! Don't beat yourself up! I've heard it makes things easier if you get the right nutrients and make sure to get all the protein your body needs! It apparently makes the hunger stay away longer and makes you feel better overall. I hope things get better and easier! Just hang in there. Have you ever seen that caption on the picture of the lil kitten trying to get up the tree?? Hang in there! Just smile on the outside, until you start to feel it on the inside. Let me know if you need anything. Best Wishes!
  15. That's so wonderful for you! I am tearing up with joy for you! Haha. I have gotten of my anti-deppresant recently, so it's inevitable. But you are so brave and upbeat about everything. You inspire me. Good luck on your journey! I will be having surgery in about 3 weeks, so hopefully we can inspire each other. Suzeeq from St. Lou
  16. I know that feeling! Just get to the point where things you used to do are impossible! Haven't had my surgery yet, but things I'm looking forward to someday. . . Working in the yard, doing housework, grocery shopping without my back hurting so much I have to stop every 10 minutes. Playing at the park with the kids, going roller skating, or traversing an amusement park without running out of breath & steam, so that everyone has to go on without me! Yay, I'm so excited. I hope you are successful and get the results you want also. Having my last appt. with doc pre-surgery next week! Then I start the lovely liquid protein diet! Oh boy!!!! haha. But it's going to be worth it, I know. Will keep you posted, you do the same! Good luck.

  19. Also, has anyone mentioned esophagitis? Try WeD app on iPhone or on the web! Not to be used for treatment, but will help guide you in a direction to share with your doctor. Good luck. Suzee q from St. Lou
  20. Does your insurance allow you to change your Primary Care Physician. I havent even had my lap band surgery yet, but my PCP is behind me on it. Either way, if she ever treated me in such a manner I would not put up with it. Your problems sound quite serious, like something may be torn?? I would get a new PCP, look for reviews of physicians that have experience with weight loss surgery patients. Word of mouth about physicians, is usually the best. My PCP has had 30 other patients who've had weight loss surgeries plus she's a very sympathetic doctor to begin with. So I trust her. Where do you live, if you don't mind me asking. Good luck finding help with your problem. Sounds painful and dangerous. Suzanne St. Louis
