What To Expect When You're In Your 20's
whitneymalae posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi I'm Whitney, 20, from Tx... getting ready to get sleeved Oct 22! Just curious to hear from people around the same age how everything has gone! As far as recovery time, loose skin, etc. also- I'm debating on whether I want to broadcast the fact that I'm getting the surgery. Im not at all ashamed or embarassed I just know that alot of skinny minnies just don't understand and our age group can be pretty judgmental haha -
So Excited Yet So Nervous!
whitneymalae replied to meredith004's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hey, just think about the rewards! This surgery is going to change your life for the better, and it will be 100x easier to maintain a healthy weight! The sleeve is such a more permanent solution than just dieting in the long run, and you should be so proud of yourself for getting up the courage to come this far! And for deciding to do it so early in life before health problems come about! I start my pre-op diet on the 10th, so if you get stressed or worried, or just want to b***h about the pre-op diet, you just message me and we can help eachother through this! This is one of the best things we will do for ourselves, don't forget that -

Congratulations on the beginning of your journey! My surgery date is the 22nd, only a few days away from yours! Actually, my height and weight are almost exactly the same as yours too, ha! I wish for you so much success, we can do this! Do you know when your pre-op appointment is or when you start the liquid diet? -

Ashley- congrats, girl! Make sure to tell us all how it goes on Wednesday, I'm sure you'll do great! OK I've gone through and watched a ton of videos on YouTube now, thanks for the suggestions everybody! I feel much better about loose skin now. Liz- I am in Tyler! Also, can I just say to everyone that I am SO proud of all of us for getting up and doing something about it! I am truly happy for every one of us for going on this journey! -
Death Of All Things Delicious? (Atleast For Awhile)
whitneymalae posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi I am getting sleeved Oct 22, I start my pre-op diet on the 10th. I feel like I am about to experience the death of my stomach, to put it dramatically. Haha. Is it awful that I want to eat at all my favorite places before I start the dreaded liquid diet or should I just get my favorite deliciousness while I still can? What do y'all think? -
Death Of All Things Delicious? (Atleast For Awhile)
whitneymalae replied to whitneymalae's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I completely agree with you Jonathan! I seem to forget that those are things that got me here in the first place! It is a constant struggle between old habits and new good habits I am trying to instill in myself. I can tell the next 2 weeks are going to be a battle of temptation. Good luck to you and your upcoming surgery, we can do this! -

I can relate to every one of your posts! glad to know that I'm not the only one struggling with this. I am beyond excited to have this surgery and know I can make good choices, which is why I am wanting to enjoy those few favorite things while I can. I'm not going on a balls to the wall food binder, I just mean over the next 2 weeks go to my 3 favorite places once, and get what I like. I mean, I have no intentions of gobbling down the whole restaurant and its waiters, just enjoying a smaller portion of my favorite dish. By the time I can eat solids, I know I will not eat those foods again (because yeah they are bad for me) so it really IS the last time I will eat those ever again. I do NEED and WANT this surgery and realize what it will take to get where I want. I cannot wait to start this journey and wish the best of luck to everyone -
Found out today that my surgery date will be October 22! Anyone getting sleeved around that time, let me know and we can all keep eachother going and focused! God, that's less than a month away! Pre-op appointment set for the 10th, will start the all liquid diet that day too (ick!) I am so excited but nervous about the surgery. Any tips or what to expect for what's coming up?

New, First Post, Saying Hi. :)
whitneymalae replied to TapSnap's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Isn't that great to think though that soon that will be your biggest worry? No more worrying "can I do this, can I sit there?". My family members would say "well you'll probably have a lot of extra skin" but ya know, if my biggest complaint is having a little extra skin, it sure beats worrying about health problems and being miserable! You keep trucking on, this forum is filled with people going through the same things! -

Hey! I'm also 20 and have the same surgery date! Same as you, I'm nervous and excited about it. I start my pre-op diet on the 12th.
-
Yeah I would love that! I'm sure you have the inside scoop since you personally know someone who has had it done! Let me know when you schedule your surgery date! Hey congrats, that's really close! I'm very jealous of you not having to get on the all liquid diet, I hear that is pretty much the hardest part

Congrats on getting approved! Yes! I was SO excited when I found out but I am also really nervous about it. They actually gave me the option of doing it a week earlier than that but I feel like I need the extra time to get mentally prepared haha. It helps to see all of these people telling their stories, if it worked for this many people, it'll work for us too! Just think, we have made it this far, and this going to be one of the greatest things we will ever do for ourselves!

Me Before And After At Six Months!

Yay congrats! You should be so proud of yourself! -
They do work! I use them and they really firm up your skin. I haven't had my surgery yet but will for sure use them after I do to help with loose skin. They basically pull out toxins from your fat cells and you drink a ton of water to get the toxins out of your system.

I know exactly what you're talking about! I am going through the process of getting banded in the near future and am already thinking about how to go about telling or not telling people around me. I am 20 yrs old and I think that people closer to our age are in general more judgmental than those that are older. I am by far the biggest in my group of "going out" friends and I feel like if I said "oh I got lap band" they would judge and think I took the easy way. It's not like I'm getting liposuction or something, it's hard work! Ive decided if people ask I will just say I made a commitment to eat less and workout more, which is true. I have told my family and a few close friends, and if flat out asked "did you have wls?" i wouldn't lie but im not just going to throw it out there on my own. A lot of people don't understand that Lap band is a tool and not a fix. It's much easier to dig a hole with a shovel rather than with your hands and lap band is a great shovel.
