I was banded in Mexico so my options are more limited. I now go to Dr. Peggy Burke in Calgary who will do fills for anyone despite where/who banded them. I tried Dr. Jim in Grande Prairie but it became very complicated as he wanted me to have a GP in Grande Prairie in case something went wrong (despite the fact that he is in a hospital! Dr Burke is very pleasant, her hours are very accommodating and she charges $100.

Does anyone have the contact info for Dr. Jim in Grande Prairie? Thanks.

If you're looking for a low carb protein drink I recommend Atkins Advantage shakes. Only 2 grams of carbs but with 15 grams of protein and only 160 calories - and they taste delicious! -

Anyone heard of or been to Banajor Obesity Center in Tijauana
sunseeker37 replied to catfanlover's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I did a lot of research and read a lot of posts on these boards before deciding which doctor to go with in Mexico. Ultimately, I was looking for the best surgeon I could get for the best price. After reviewing all of the doctors, it seems that Dr. Ortiz and Dr. Kuri have the best reputations, credentials and the least amount of complications. I finally settled on Dr. Kuri because he has a web special price right now of $7500 vs. Dr. Ortiz who is charging $8500. My second choice was Dr. Huacuz who charges $7000 but his package only includes two days in hospital whereas Dr. Kuri's package includes two days in hospital and two days in a hotel. In case something goes wrong I liked the comfort of being close to the doctor for the longer period of time. Plus, Dr. Kuri normally charges $8950 so I thought his special price gave me access to an excellent surgeon at a reasonable price. Dr. Allessandrini and the Banajor Obesity Centre didn't even make my short list based on my research and the reviews that I have read. -

To all of you out there who have had surgery with Dr. Kuri - do you know why he doesn't require a pre-op diet before surgery if your BMI is under 47? I understand that the purpose of the pre-op diet is to shrink the liver and make the surgery easier and safer. So, I'm not sure why he doesn't require it when most other doctors do. I haven't spoken with Dr. Kuri personally yet so any light you can shed on this for me would be appreciated.

I am scheduled for surgery with Dr. Kuri on May 1st. He does not require a pre-op diet if your BMI is less than 47. Mine is 39.1 so I don't have to do the diet but I'm wondering why the difference between doctors? Other doctors still require a pre-op diet even with lower BMI's. Can anybody shed some light on this for me? I haven't spoken with Dr. Kuri yet directly so I haven't been able to ask him this question.

Saskatoon Saskatchewan girl in need of answers
sunseeker37 replied to lemonlulu's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have found an RN in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan that has the lap band. She has been trained and she does her own fills and she is willing to provide fills for other people for $50. I have spoken to her and she seems very knowledgable. Send me a private message and I can put you in contact with her if you want. -
Have you found anyone to go with? I am planning on going to Mexico for the lap band surgery at the end of April/beginning of May and am just deciding which doctor to use. I'm reviewing these sites regularly and researching their reputations as much as I can and then I will make a decision.

new and seeking advice re removal
sunseeker37 replied to marrakesh's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
One of the surgeons that I contacted regarding the surgery has advised that the band is intended to come out after ten years and that surgery would cost about $2000 less than the original surgery! I am encouraged by the last post though. Can anyone else confirm this? -
Do you have a number that I can contact Dr. Descoteaux at?
