I had the same pain earlier this week. I thought it was gas. I'm 2 weeks post-op.

Please recommend protein shake brand

Premier protein chocolate shakes -
Good luck - the pre-op diet is the hardest part. It will get easier

I would recommend getting a sleep study done, because you may have sleep apnea, and that's a comorbidity that reduces the bmi requirement to 35. I don't think high cholesterol will count. I did not have a 40 bmi for a full 2 year period, so aetna initially denied me. However, my surgeon did a peer-to-peer review with aetna and explained that the period in which my bmi was below 40 was when i was on diet pills (phentermine), and i got approved. In the interim between the denial and the peer-to-peer review, i did the sleep study. After i found out i was approved for the lapband, i learned that i had sleep apnea. Had i done the sleep study earlier, i probably would never have gotten denied.

Pebbagirl: thanks so much for starting this group. I think you mentioned the shrinkyourself website on another post last month, and i bought the book - thanks so much for the recommendation.

I was banded on 12/19, and i've only lost 6 pounds post-op. my husband was banded on the same day, and he has lost 14 pounds post-op. i remember reading these boards a few months before surgery and thinking that people who were worried about weight loss at this stage were crazy because they needed to be focused on healing. However, i have become one of those "crazy" people who has wondered why my weight loss is slow when i'm eating only Protein Shakes, cream of wheat, and Soup. I have to keep reminding myself that this is the time to heal, and i'm not even allowed to eat "normal" foods yet, so i can't really judge my weight loss progress. Physically, i'm feeling about 90% recovered. The worst days for pain for me was dec 24 and 25, as gas pains in my shoulder came out of nowhere and hurt pretty badly. Now, i don't have too much pain with movement (gas or incisions) but i can't yet sleep on my stomach with regards to "regularity," i've been using miralax powder, and things have been moving fine. Btw, has anyone been doing videos on youtube? My husband and i started doing them so we could track our progress (the channel is JennKopp). If any of you guys are posting on youtube, please tell us the name of your channel.

What is the procedure for first visit?
Jendkopp replied to t2dav's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm newly banded (12/19), and the only time i've been in a gown with my surgeon was the day of surgery. -
Miralax is a tasteless powder that mixes with any liquid that will help you

I want to cry. :(
Jendkopp replied to Stephleupagus's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded on 12/19 and have asked myself several times "why did i do this to myself." Then i get on this website and read how the people who have been banded for a while say that this is the best decision they ever made. So, since we can't go back in time, i choose to believe that a year from now i will be among the people who believe that getting banded was a great choice. -
What is this "full" feeling when I haven't even eaten?
Jendkopp replied to Stephleupagus's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Last night (day 7 post-op) i had horrible gas pain and bloating that started unexpectedly. I used gas-x strips and a heating pad on my shoulders and back, and it helped so much. -
I find that strained cream based soups help to keep me full.

Down in the dumps
Jendkopp replied to lousianalady's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You've lost 40 pounds - that's great! Focus on the positives, and just make up your mind to get back on track. I understand that from your perspective, you may think you've failed, but to a newbie like me, your success gives me hope. -

Nancynicole: i'm 5 days post-op, and i think the night naseau is normal. When i get it, i take a few sips of wonton soup broth, and i feel so much better. I don't think you can slip the band after 9 days and following the rules. -

Peaceful1: i am in the same boat as you - my doctor did not give me any restriction regarding liquid intake. I have been eating about 1.5 cups of chicken broth at a time and drinking lots of water whenever i am thirsty. I am on day 4 post-op. One of my pre-op questions to my doctor was whether i could stretch my pouch from drinking too much water too quickly, and she said that i wouldn't stretch my pouch from water. -
Brand new and freaking out....

I think the pain meds make us weepy. I have been crying a bit and feeling overwhelmed since getting banded on 12/19. -
4thefuture31: you should get approved with sleep apnea and a bmi of 37. The insurance approval part of this journey is the worst part. Good luck and please keep us updated

I just had surgery this morning (9:30am) with a hernia repair. Got home at 2:30 today and have my mom here with me. Glad to have her here to help me get up from lying down and refill my ice pack. Once i am up, i can walk, get water, and eat soup, but i feel better knowing that she's here in case i need help. Plus, you'll be groggy from the hospital meds and it's good to have someone remind you when to get up, take pain meds, etc

Because someone did this in the past, my nutritionist now tells everyone that it is not ok to put pizza in the blender. Seriously, who does that?! -
